We had rented a car in San Diego and then drove to Los Angeles. We used it the first day in LA but returned it as we decided to uber everywhere else. Car was okay as it got us from place to place. My partner and I had a one day EV rental reservation that we made through Costco about a month or so prior, and picked this up on 10/28 (Saturday) in the morning at around 10:30am for a 9:30am rental. The two ladies working the front were nice although at first it seemed like we were interrupting their lunch when we walked in. Although our reservation was for a "Tesla Model 3" they ended up giving us a Hyundai Ionic 5 which was fine and technically it did say on the reservation "or similar" so either way we were getting an EV. The car could've been a little bit cleaner on the inside and out, but it wasn't horrible or anything. We just had noticed the outside didn't seem washed and the center console had some coffee stains. Overall still fairly clean on the inside. The car was given to us at just about 50% charge which enough to get us down to Long Beach and around there for that Saturday. Sunday morning we were rushing to get to Avis as well as charging the car up. We had some issues at the charging station because the electric charging company was being a pain and the app we were using kept freezing. Long story short, we had called Avis customer service to call and see what our grace period was and he told us 1 hour so we figured we would make it just in time to return without a late fee. Once we arrived to Avis in downtown LA to return this car, we noted that the electricity charge was at 46% and went downstairs for a receipt. The place was busy, but when we finally got to speak with Harry, we had a very delightful experience. He told us that technically we were late because the system starts charging extra after 29 minutes, but he ended up waving the late fee for us and he also said 46% was okay on the charge even though technically we needed to be at 50%. As budget travelers, this was super super helpful for us and we couldn't be more grateful of Harry's willingness to help us out. He was also extremely professional and nice. My theory stands that if you treat people with respect and give good energy, often you'll receive it back, and Harry is a great testament to this. I would absolutely rent from this Avis again knowing that Harry runs the show here! Thank you again! read more

BIG HEADS UP REGARDING THE GARAGE: you'll have to deal with 888 Figueroa's new automated parking system, Metropolis, which charges you for entering and exiting the garage by license plate #. When I picked up the car, I couldn't leave the garage unless I paid $24 through the Metropolis app. After I dropped off the car at the end of the rental period, I received a whopping $93 charge after the next driver exited the building with the rental car the next day (!!!). I'm currently in a dispute directly with Metropolis to get refunded. I called Avis, and they told me that they're battling with Metropolis themselves to resolve this for their fleet, but in the meantime, they don't get involved with individual customers' disputes. Save your rental agreement and parking receipts -- you may have to fight a battle when you come back from your trip!! read more

This location routinely violates California law. I've been charged multiple times for additional drivers that are specifically excluded from such charges, like my spouse and parents. Every time the location has another excuse like "it's automatic and I can't remove it", "the law changed" (no it did not), etc. Incredibly frustrating experiences here, would recommend choosing a different Avis location. read more

Overall a painless experience. Made the reservation online and got a free upgrade through my Amex card. They ended up giving me a full size, an additional level up from my upgrade because that is all they had. When I went to the car there was more minor scratches on it than noted, so I let the attendant know, and he changed my ticket to note the additional damages. Also, the fuel gauge was listed as 3/8, but when I got into the car it was 1/4, which I brought to the attention customer service agent as well, and they made the correction as well. The Chevy Malibu itself is not a luxurious car, but definitely gets the job done and has Apple Carplay. This was a pleasant experience and they were not rude about it at all. Later, I needed to add additional night with the car, so I just made the change with the website without having to talk to anyone or call and wait on hold. And then I returned the car in the morning and got my receipt within three minutes. Overall, a very painless and seamless experience. read more

This is absolutely the WORST place to rent a car. The car reeked of weed...to the point of being so embarrassing that we could not give our friends a ride. We got out of the car smelling like we had just gotten high...for all 2.5 days we had the car. Additionally, they added an erroneous $800 charge for which they have no documentation nor reason for charging. They are trying to charge us $1200 for a 2.5 day rental, for which our reservation stated a $250 bill. This is total extortion. This is hands down the worst customer service I've ever experienced and I will fight these charges tooth and nail. They are trying to squeeze $800 out of two middle school teachers. I chose to rent from this Avis location as it was cheaper than picking up from the airport's. My family uses my mother's company discount frequently, and never have I had an issue doing so without her being present. The agent insisted that it was company policy that she had to be with me to use the discount and that there was "nothing he could do about it". He charged me the original rate which was nearly double what I intended to pay. While the car I received was very nice and clean, I was upset about the cost. I called customer service when I returned home, and they very quickly reduced the charge to the discounted rate. UNRELIABLE AND DECEPTIVE. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION. I reserved a car for 10 am, and I had checked in online at 9:30 and got a text confirming my reservation. Around 9:40, I called to tell them that I was running late, and they informed me that they had no cars available. When I arrived a little after 10, they told me that there were no cars available unless I wanted to upgrade. I asked if I would be charged extra, and they told me I could either 1) Pay $70 more for an upgrade or 2) Wait up to an hour. I argued that it was outrageous to make me pay for an upgrade because this error was not my fault, and they told me that if I had a problem, I could leave, thrilled to exert their minuscule amount of power. Because I was running late, I chose to pay for the upgrade, which nearly doubled the cost of my trip. To make matters worse, they indicated that my rental time began at 10 AM, despite it starting closer to 11. This means that they basically just robbed me from an hour of my time both at the beginning of the rental and at the end of the rental. This is not standard practice. (I've rented from other locations. They typically use the time that you actually got in the vehicle as when your time period starts.) Ofc if they had actually had a car waiting for me at the right time, then this wouldn't have been an issue. I wanted to give them another chance because most of their bad reviews were from a while ago, so I thought maybe they had enough time to improve things. They have not improved anything at this location. The staff is rude. The service is unreliable. Honestly, this location should be shut down. If you ever have to deal with the gross impropriety of this location and they're terrible staff, just called Budget corporate and they will fix it for you. Unsurprisingly, corporate informed me that under no circumstances should I have been made to pay for this upgrade, as it was not something that I had requested. read more

This is my favorite rental car spot in Los Angeles. I rent a lot of cars. I used to rent from the airport until I found out how much more expensive it is with the additional taxes. Anyway, I wanted to find a location close to my home and I found this one within walking distance. I find you get the best rates when you make a reservation online first. As a rule you should always keep your paperwork and receipts and make sure you get the price you booked online. Now, it took some getting used to at first. If you are used to a large selection of cars and being able to reserve and obtain that specific vehicle, this might not be the place for you. Cars come in and cars go out. They don't have much control over their daily selection. This location opens at 7:30am which is a plus for me. They have limited car washing capabilities due to their parking garage location. However, I haven't had any mechanical issues or problems with the cleanliness of their cars. What I like best about this location is Harry and Alex. These gentlemen are awesome. They make sure I'm in and out without delay. From recommending the best vehicles for gas mileage, to helping me resolve any billing or lost and found issues, these guys always come through for me! The Worst Ever!! Worst customer service (counter/over the phone) Worst system! Worst rates I booked over the phone, and wanted a rental from June 24th to June 29th 2018. The reservation agent booked June 5th to June 7th 2019! A year later! They later promised me to honor the initial rate they promised, and never refunded the difference! They charged a couple of hundred dollars more than hey promised. They wasted around 6 hours of my vacation time between phone calls/driving to talk with agents at the counter. Even dropping off the car at PHL location, the outside staff was very careless, the girl who should review the car was just sitting in another car playing with her phone! I received "outstanding" customer service from Alex at this Avis location. Alex was very professional, friendly and wanted to make sure that everything was perfect with my rental. So I rented a car from Avis while in LA for business. I just received a bill for $250 for the 'smell of cigarette smoke and ashes in the cup holders'. Ironic that none of us in the car are smokers. We rented a car from Avis for our vacation and Patrick totally scammed us. We had reserved a full size sedan and he said "we'd be his one good deed for the day." He said that he would upgrade our car and give us a discounted rate. He also provided us a tablet for a mobile hot spot. We said we didn't need it, but he said it was complimentary. I would be amiss if I didn't leave this post about Mary at the front desk at the 888 S Figueroa St as she was an absolute ROCKSTAR during All-Star week. We needed to do an extension, combine a reservation and keep the same exact car we had in our trip from Las Vegas to LA. She stitched things together so that all I needed to do was check in on the day I would have originally picked up a new car, but all that was needed was to sign out the new paperwork. Same upgraded car I got on Las Vegas, same rates I had already pre-paid. I was out in no time. And to boot, both occasions I visited the office she was upbeat, friendly, very knowledgeable and on point with what was needed to be done. AWFUL! We arrived after traveling with 3 kids. The agent was "looking up" if they had a car available for us. Even though we pre booked everything through Southwest Vacations. She then offered me a Mercedes for an additional $99 a day. We were already paying $129 a day for an SUV! Uhhh... no! When the other agent pulled SUV up, it was soaked from running it through the wash. We got into the car and it was nasty! Dirt! Grass! Dust! Long hairs on the seat! Clearly. It a clean vehicle. So when I started this review, I was about to rave on about the 13.99 flat rate that they had for rental. There was a sign on the counter that stated that they had a flat rate charge for fuel on rentals. I though this was a great idea. This way people didn't need to go get the tank filled up before they returned the car...Awesome right? Wrong. As I said, the sign only stated that there would be a flat charge of $13.99. When the car was being returned, they rep tried to charge the $13.99 for multiple days! The tech who went to go check the fuel in the car, stated that the car had 4/8 a tank of gas left (I know, 4/8 is the same as 1/2, but I'm just stating what they said). The car visibly had more gas than that. When the rep was told about the sign not stating that the charge was a "per day" charge, she still didn't want to take the charge off. Over all, this place was good though. They were quick and efficient. Just be careful of their poor advertising, and bad explanations. read more

HORRIBLE !!!!!!if I could rate a ZERO STAR I would!!!! The Manager that has been working there for 25+ at this location. Charged my debit card and extra $835 after already paying $1,477 in the last five weeks . Manager states that he ran out of options. Not sure what that means . Refuses to explain why the charges were changed. I've had to visit multiple locations showing proof I've made all five payments on time with no issues , they canceled my agreement two days early , deactivating my Uber app making me unable to work and make money on one of the biggest weekends of the year ( Halloween ). After waking up to a bank account over drafted -$622.00 the Manager refuses to answer any of my questions. Stated he'd send a receipt , then hanging up on me mid conversation. I would never recommend this location nor the 700 west 7th street. I would never treat someone like this especially if driving Uber was their main source of income. They are disorganized, policies and procedures enforced only to their benefit. If I were the owner I'd clean house , according to their Manager all the employees that work there are " incompetent " his words not mine, the 4 customers in the lobby and my bank representative that he made me call in front of him overheard our conversation and the degrading way he spoke to me. We needed a bigger vehicle for a weekend trip. This location was within walking distance so pickup and return were easy for us. The office is plain and dated, but that is not overly critical. The staff was helpful and friendly. I was in and out fairly quickly. The vehicle was new and even better than I actually booked. The price was pretty fair too. There are not a lot of options in downtown for rental cars and no one wants to go all the way to the airport to pick up if they do not have to. This is a good option. read more
