Our recent car rental for three weeks in October had some ups and downs. First the line up is fine; and some of the personnel are top drawer. However, over a lifetime of car rentals all over the world, we were shocked and dismayed by the attitude of this franchise of Avis. After more than two weeks of driving in the Nice area, we suffered a flat tire. After contacting Avis, we were told that a tow truck would arrive in 45 minutes. After waiting for almost two hours, the truck arrived. He first tried inflating the tire. That didn't work, so he towed the car back to Avis. We we along to exchange cars. After waiting at the Avis counter for over an hour, we were inforned that they were charging us for a new tire. Two days later, while driving on the via Anglais at noon time, a man on a motorcycle busted out our rear passenger side window, while we idled at a stoplight. We drove directly to the airport, both to report it and to change to another car. Again, we waited for over an hour; and were again informed that we would be charged for a new window. Between the tire and the window, we were charged over 400 Euros. We've had flats before in rental cars. We've had rental cars burglarized and/or vandalized. In all previous instances, both in Europe and the states, we have never been charged for such things. Besides our previous experience, tires wear out and are expected to be replaced. That's part of the costs of business--not something passed on to the unlucky customer who happens to be driving the rental car at the time that the tire dies. Second, if the customer is charged for vandalism, what incentive is there for the good people of Nice to clean up this problem? We think something is very wrong about this situation. Otherwise, great service. If you need a car in Nice, find another agency. read more
