Don't even try it. Incompetent, unprofessional and waste of time. Nobody was there when I had a reservation to come pick up and after calling they said they would come in 10 minutes. They obviously won't have any reservation of similar kind in stock, will throw in every fee/insurance they can, and blatantly lie about insurance. Cars are not properly cleaned or maintained. I received numerous alerts on the vehicle that service was required and other notifications on the dashboard. Unusual charges for a rental car service that doesn't clean or detail their vehicles when given to customers. Would highly recommend seeking out Enterprise or a second option. Have rented from this car rental space on numerous occasions. I actually rented a car twice in the same month because the lady Lala was so nice. The initial car I rented was dirty and it was bigger than requested, but because my own car needed to be serviced, I did not complain. I returned the car with no problem. I rented a car a week ago today. Today I stood in line to return a car. The manager (Dwight) took a look at the car, came back and asked who had drove the car. I said I did. He began to yell at me and say that the car must be cleaned on the inside and the outside or he would charge me a minimum fee of $150 with a maximum fee of $450. After yelling at me, he tells me if I get it cleaned will not charge me for extra time that was used to clean and return the car. According to the documents that I received when renting the car, it said nothing about cleaning the car. It only stated the car needed to be returned with the gas that it had been filled with as well as damage free. The car had been dirty because while I was renting the car, there was a wind and rain storm. I did wash the car. Returned the car and told Dwight (the manager) that I would likely not return any more cars because of the policy and how he talked to me. He apologized, but wanted to encourage me to keep my upcoming rental. I simple said have a great weekend. There is too much going on in the world to be treated with unkindness. Honestly, I am not sure where these policies come from either. Rent at your own risk. read more

My last review of this location was from 2018. I had forgotten what a sour taste they'd left in my mouth. I was reminded on my visit yesterday how much I dislike the people at this location. Here's the story: The owner of this franchisee location is Lala. The rules they make out of thin air, like requiring a credit card from the second driver on the contract or not upgrading you when they don't have a car in the class you reserved are also Lala! These people are from lalaland! Save yourself the frustration and don't go to this location. The one on Lincoln in Venice is corporate owned, cleaner, and has better service. I showed up for my 1030 reservation at 1055am. I had made it through Costco travel. I get there after walking with my mom and infant in a stroller and the door is locked. We wait a few minutes and the guy comes in from the back to unlock the door. We go in and I give him my license and credit card, which he proceeds to clean with a Clorox wipe. Ok, it's covid times and you don't know where my card has been so I respect that. Then I ask to add my mom as the second driver and he asks for her credit card. I think "that's weird". I've been renting from Avis/Budget since 1997 and no one has EVER as for that. I tell him and he says "well, that's our policy." Way to go guy, hide behind your policy. Next, he taps on some keyboard keys and says the car he was going to give me isn't there! Ok, also never heard that answer in my years of renting! So I tell him to give me another car, he says he doesn't have one. Well, upgrade me then. No, can't do that. I raise my voice slightly and become more stern at this point. I say if you don't have the car class I reserved then you upgrade me to another class. He says I was supposed to be here at 1030 and it's now 11. He's trying to hide behind the excuse for not wanting to give me a car when he has six of them in the front lot. He then says I was rude to him and walks away. I call Avis customer care and explain the issue. The agents asks to speak with the guy who refuses to answer at first. The agent tells him to upgrade me and he refuses again. At this point, we've exhausted our options but he's on record refusing to provide customer service. The phone agent offers me a free rental day and an Uber ride to another location (I chose The one on Lincoln and Venice) and that's that. Two hours of my time wasted. On October 8th I was taking by ambulance to the hospital for an emergency surgeon. Prior to leaving the car I was told by the ambulance that they would park it and a safe location not too far from where they picked me up. Apparently while I was in the hospital for a week, someone was sleeping in the car so the police towed the car . Once the car was impounded budget picked the car up . I was released from the hospital 10/14 and have been trying to reach Shannon (budget fleet distributor) and have not been able to reach her . She has no voicemail set up and is never at her desk to answer the call . I had lots of property in the car and I'd like to have it back . read more

This location is an Avis/Budget Car Rental. Made a reservation days in advance and pre-paid in full on Budget's website. I arrived on time at 12:00pm (my reservation time) but car wasn't ready until 1pm. Then, Dwight still couldn't finish checking me out due to an issue with his incredibly out of date computer. He said, "I can't do anything else." I had to call Budget's customer service to get a refund. The manager of this location (Dwight) is disgruntled and not at all helpful. Manager was rude, made up fake policies (insisting on collecting credit card from second driver because he didn't believe a woman could afford a car that I prepaid for), berated me for not having a mask when there is no mask mandate in order and tried to get me to sign off on a car inspection sheet without first permitting an inspection. Usually I do not feel compelled to write yelp reviews for poor experiences, attempting to apply a benefit of the doubt. I had made a reservation for a car rental about a week ago for 12:15 today. When I went in there was no one at the desk, or did anyone come when I called. There was a door open to the garage and I found two people sitting watching TV. I finally got the woman to get up and come help me. She wanted me to sign off on the car inspection sheet before seeing the car, which I refused. So we did the rest of the paper work and went out to inspect the car. It was not ready, they has just started to wash it. I had to stand out front for 15 minutes waiting for the car. When I got it and drove off I noticed it stank of stale cigarettes. I had to keep going because I had several appointments to keep.. The car stank so bad that the smell transferred from the upholstery onto my clothes. I had to make a special trip that evening to LAX to exchange the car for one that did not stink. The people running this AVIS/BUDGET office do not care, not not prepare, and are at best incompetent. Go to another Avis office or another company to rent a car. You are better off avoiding these Bozos. read more

My reservation email said to arrive at 8 am. I did. And employee told me they did not open until 9am. I understood as covid is affecting many businesses. I walked down the street and waited at a coffee shop until 9. I arrived back at 9 am. An employee saw me and then walked away and the doors remained locked until another employee (the manager?) arrived 15 minutes later. He was rude and short and kept saying he had to look for a small car because they don't really have any available (then why did you let me reserve one online?). I explained that I was going to be late to work and he kept saying it would be quick .. 20 minutes later he goes "oh looks like you have another car under your name here". FALSE. I made ONE reservation last night for a car y'all don't apparently have for a time when y'all weren't apparently open. Edit: I don't think I explained how rude this man was. After being 15 minutes late and kinda wandering around he was short and pissy every time he asked me a question. I'm sure he was annoyed that customers were there so early and maybe had a bad morning- but I've worked in customer service before... you leave those issues at the door. I've never had such outstanding service from any rental car company here in Los Angeles. LaLa and recently meeting Dwight for the years I've used them have always stepped up in service and professionalism for myself, my business associates and my family. If there's ever been an issue with a vehicle which is rare but occasionally happens (these vehicles are rented allot), they've taken care of the issue. I've seen a handful of reviews here and as with any business having once been a small business owner until CV19, you can't please everyone. That said I can say with confidence and most certainly gratitude if they see this that LaLa at Avis Culver City will always do all she can with this family owned business to give outstanding customer service as they have for me in the years I've lived here and used their services, as well as well maintained clean and current vehicles to choose from. Horrible experience at this rental car vendor. I reserved a car weeks in advance of when I needed one. While I was about 45 minutes late to pick up the car, I waited about 40 minutes for 2 people ahead of me to be served. When it was my turn, I was told there was no car available. The staff person told me he attempted to call me the day before, but I never received a call or message. The staff person was apologetic, but ultimately, either be a rental car company and have cars available or find a new type of business. There were 2 cars on the lot, but I was told I could get one if I paid significantly more money. The national system and local vendors do not communicate well for the car reservation process at Avis. My plans significantly inconvenienced this day. I will never return to Avis and recommend avoiding. read more

Don't come here unless you want to have a bait and switch. I prepaid my reservation in advance and when I arrived. My car was not available. No problem. I've rented cars hundreds of times and it just means you'll get an upgrade to the next level at the same price. Not this guy he wanted to charge me more. I objected. He said those were the terms. When I asked for corporate or a number to Call he responded that he would not rent me a car if I complained to corporate. Well, I called Corporate, and They tried to intervene, but the guy wouldn't pick up the phone. It's a small one man, operation. Corporate then moved my reservation to a location nearby and reduced by the amount Uber was going to charge me. I went to the venice location, and I said that the Sepulveda blvd location has so many complaints. They can't understand how that location is still in business. The manager was extremely unpleasant and unprofessional. He was rude. I regularly rent cars but this was my first experience at this location and my last. I prepaid on my credit card but the man insisted that I use a debit card. I did as he insisted later to find out that both my credit card, which i prepaid with, and my debit card were both charged the amount of the rental. Not cool. Him and his wife are managers so be warned or just avoid this place at all cost. I would give them negative stars but it obviously that's not an option. read more

He said we have to wait for Ford Fusion until he wash the car and he said that Ford Fusion is premium car where actually it is not. Ford Fusion is full size but not premium. I was looking for a deal off airport. I thought I was getting one until I saw the dirty, sticky tape marked residue, dented, scuff covered sh$t box of a Nissan Sentra that was left in the parking lot. Since we were in a rush and there were no cars other than the owners Porsche we hurriedly loaded up the rent-a-wreck and eased on down the road. Upon returning the car, the owner, now driving a $50,000 Volvo SUV parked in the tiny empty lot, over charged me by $50!!! I showed her my weekly contract and they somehow changed it to 6 days. Since she claimed I was 6 hours over, they charged me "the day" rate, which added 30% to my rental charges. Picked up Friday at 11:30am would give me until Friday at 11:29am to return it. I returned on Thursday at 5:40pm -- a half day early!! Listed as an AVIS-Budget Satellite office, I was renting from Budget. The Avis sign was visible from the street. The Budget sign was totally invisible with only a 2" x 4" decal on the door. I recommend NEVER EVER GOING HERE. Uber, hitch, cab, pay full retail, buy a car or steal one (I think that's where they got the turd covered Sentra). read more

This review is for this location and not for Avis as a whole. I rent at least twice a month from Avis for work, and loved my local office in Sherman Oaks. I just moved to Playa Vista and found this location to be the closest. I will not be returning. When I picked up the car, I waited for almost 10 minutes before anyone came in from the garage to greet me. Annoying, but not a huge deal. A few days later, the Maintenance Required light came on. I was going to have the car for another week, potentially driving a good number of miles, so I returned to see if I could exchange the car. The representative said it was only an initial warning and we still had 2,000 miles. I said because I'd be leaving town I'd feel much more comfortable with a properly serviced car. She still refused, so the car dinged at me all week. Finally, I go to return the car. I won't bore you with the details, but the same woman was there and she was just as unpleasant as ever. She told my husband not to "dirty up (her) parking lot" because he threw a leaf on the ground (she later said she had been joking because I think she realized after the fact what it was, but she was definitely serious), and she tried to charge us for a giant "scratch", which we easily rubbed off. I've rented from dozens of Avis locations across the US and Canada, and this was definitely one of the worst. If you're going with Avis, I recommend you find another location. read more

The manager Lala is very nice, she keeps the stuff I left on the car and she does her best to help me. They did run out of cars the day I was supposed to pick up a car, she called me in advance and she helped me to get a car from LAX location. I mean, sometimes this company can be not as good(but it's also cheaper than others) but it's not Lala or this location's fault, and Lala always try her best to help her customers. I've been renting from her for a couple of years and she sometimes gives me discounts and free upgrades. This 5 star is not necessarily for AVIS or BUDGET, it's for Lala and her hard work. read more

We made a reservation for a specific size car 5 days in advance, and upon arrival at the specified time, they did not have a car for us, and only offered us more expensive options than what we needed. If they knew that they would not have a car for a reservation, they should have let us know in advance, the morning of or the night before, yet they did not do that. Before we were able to get any solution we were asked to wait at the end of the line that appeared behind us. We than sat on the phone for 40 minutes with Avis, and arrived at no reasonable conclusion. This location is never reliable, and you will only be wasting your time. It is a small location with no cars, and it is far from professional. Going a little farther to rent your car will save you time and energy, skip this place. read more
