SCAMMERS. Avoid at all costs. The worst. I booked a 2-day rental with insurance through Travelocity. Total charges should have been €141, but Avis charged my bank card €790. In the past 3 months, I have called Avis dozens of times. No one EVER answers the phone. My bank and Travelocity have also tried to contact Avis with NO success. This week, I finally received an email from Avis asking me to send photos proving that I did NOT damage the car. Seriously. My bank told me that it sees scams like this with car rental companies all the time. AVOID this Avis. I'll never use anyone but Enterprise again. read more

SCAM! HORRIBLE PEOPLE! Went to pick up our car that we rented weeks in advance only for the desk person and the manager to go back and forth about whether or not my ID was acceptable. It was a clearly perfect ID but they did not understand that an issue date does NOT mean when you got your license, just when the state issues you a new card. When we tried to resolve this by putting the reservation under a different name, Avis wanted to charge us OVER 5 TIMES what we had paid. Absolute robbery! You can tell they tried their hardest to ruin our vacation. If you have issues you are better luck renting elsewhere. We did at the AVIS at the nearby airport within the hour and had absolutely no issues! read more

Beware Avis Aix en Provence TGV! Rented a van for one day. Desk clerk made us sign rental docuements all in French without opportunity to inspect and then handed us the key and pointed to a distant lot. When we finally walked to the far end of the lot where the van was parked we noticed a small scratch/scuff on passenger side during walk around. Intended to take van back to rental office but parking lot exit took us onto one way street and then highway away from office. Decided to trust their honesty. Big mistake! When I brought back and informed the gate agent that the van they rented had a predicting scuff/scratch, gate agent denied it was present and said I would be charged. They then charged my card 1600 Euro to fix a scuff! Then when we submitted affidavits through Amex to get charge removed, they refused. Go somewhere else to rent!
