My mother stayed at Aspire Rehabilitation for approximately six to seven weeks following a health issue. While we're grateful for the support of family members who were able to visit and monitor her daily, our experience was a mix of positives and serious concerns. Pros * Many of the nursing staff were kind and genuinely tried to be helpful, even though they were clearly managing a heavy workload. * When issues were brought to their attention, efforts were made to address and correct them. * There is a beautiful outdoor area by the river where patients can get fresh air if signed out by a family member or caregiver. This was a highlight during an otherwise difficult stay. Cons While we understand that staffing shortages are common across many healthcare facilities, some of the problems we encountered were unacceptable--especially for a rehab facility. * The odor in the rehabilitation wing was overwhelmingly unpleasant each time we visited. * On several occasions, my mother was not given meals or had to wait an extended period for basic care. * We often heard elderly residents calling out for help, sometimes for long stretches, with little or no response. * My mother was left on the toilet and in soiled clothing for prolonged periods--something that no patient should have to endure. * Her mattress was visibly stained with dried bodily fluids--a serious hygiene and dignity concern. * The rehabilitation sessions were minimal and ineffective. Despite being nearly immobile for six weeks, she made remarkable progress walking within just days of leaving Aspire, which speaks volumes about the lack of active rehab during her stay. Final Thoughts Aspire has some caring staff and a nice location, but the overall care and rehab support fell significantly short of our expectations. Families with loved ones staying here should advocate persistently and stay involved daily, especially given the facility's current staffing and care quality challenges. read more

I cared for my Father for 8 years, in and out of care facilities a dozen times, before he died. The last two years I was helping in and out of bed with a hoyer lift. After my father died, I spent the next 8 years caring for my Mother, in the same way, before she died, also a 24/7 job. In the middle of all that I was needed to spend some time caring for my Aunt, when my cousin unexpectly died. I understand what a health care provider is faced with on a day to day basis. My Aunt has been a residend of Dolphins View for several years and celibrated her 100th birth day their. Jeff, the impressive Executive Director, has tended to my every need. I am a long term diabetic and had no idea of the serious state my left foot was in. He took a look at my blue foot and told a nurse to tend to me right away. I thank him every day for keeping my foot. Have you ever met an Executive Director that has cared so much? He noticed what I needed and demanded the care right away. I don't know much about medicine but this man literally saved my life. Mom had a fall and was in the hospital with a C-Spine fracture, broken ribs, and pelvic fracture. She has severe rheumatoid arthritis and is a picky eater. A pulmonary embolism in the hospital had ruled out surgery, and we were at wit's end. A feeding tube was recommended because she was so weak that she couldn't pass a swallow test. Was rehab even possible, or should we be talking to hospice counselors? Social Services sent us to check out two places nearby. One was smaller and on drive-by didn't appear fancy; the other was much bigger and had beautiful grounds with fountains. We decided to check out the smaller place first, with the expectation that we'd probably end up at the fancier looking place. My sister and I showed up unannounced about 4 p.m. on a Friday afternoon, and after taking time to finish up with a patient, Executive Director Sydney sat and listened to our Mom's situation. She gave us the perfect blend of kindness, caring, and hope. Upon tour, the facilities seemed fine and functional, but not particularly attractive. Sydney assured us that she and her staff would work with the hospital to assure that Mom could be admitted over the weekend. Whatever we needed. We went to the fancier-looking place, arriving at 4:45 p.m., only to be told there was no one available to speak with us or give us a tour until Monday morning. To her credit, the receptionist made a number of phone calls to try to find someone to help us, but to no avail. True to her word, Sydney came to the hospital on Saturday morning to meet Mom and pick up paperwork. Mom moved in (by ambulance transport) that evening. Because she was in a neck brace and too weak to even pick up a cup of water, I chose to stay with her that night (and for a couple of nights thereafter), as we'd done in the hospital. My sister, two nieces, and I took turns staying with her around the clock, and staff members made us feel welcome and comfortable, bringing a recliner and blankets so I could get some rest. On Monday morning, rehab began and everyone was so kind, caring, encouraging, and capable that Mom has rallied and is improving daily. On that morning, an issue arose over drawing blood by the outside lab ordered by the doctor. RN Kyle stepped in and took care of the problem. We were so grateful for the quick response. Therapists Dan, Diane, Rachel, and B began that day and are working miracles with Mom, helping to improve chronic issues related to her 20+ year battle with rheumatoid arthritis. Monday night was my last night sleeping over. Everyone at Dolphins View has been terrific. Today was the Fourth of July and I enjoyed the noontime BBQ overlooking Bay and am sorry that I'll be missing the fireworks tonight as I'm flying home to my family with a clear mind and heart. Mom is in the best place possible! And, as promised, I saw dolphins in the Bay from the back patio outside the rehab room. read more

I'm giving one star only because there's no option of giving zero stars. In fact, I'd give negative stars. This place is the most vile, disgusting place I've ever seen. I went to visit my mother in law and the first thing I noticed was nobody at the front desk / reception area except an older woman in a wheelchair left unattended and begging to use the restroom. She was talking to nobody because nobody was there. We could have easily taken her and nobody would have seen it. Immediately after this, I was hit in the face with the intense, overwhelming stench of old urine. It smelled like they mopped the floors and cleaned the countertops using urine instead of water. There wasn't even a hint of any attempt to mask the disgusting, nausea-inducing smell. Honestly, I threw up a little in my mouth. I don't know how anyone can stand to be in this place for more than a few seconds. The place looks terrible and run-down both on the outside and inside. My mother in law said the "bed" was extremely uncomfortable. We were told that the beds were specially made for people recovering from illnesses. But actually, it wasn't even a bed. In fact, it was complete garbage. I've literally slept on concrete on a piece of cardboard and it was more comfortable than this "bed." They should be ashamed of themselves. One of the physical therapy guys, Bill, spent more time flirting with women than actually helping patients. It was a disgrace. The attendants are busy gossiping about their patients. Nice to your face then they turn around and complain about patients to other patients and attendants there. They talked about one other woman to us in a horrible way. All the patients look so depressed and miserable. This is the worst place I have ever seen. My mother in law is 72 years old and she broke her hip, leg, pelvic bone, tail bone, and had some other injuries as a result of multiple falls in a short time span. She was so miserable after the first night that she said she would rather die than stay there another night. We immediately came and got her out of there. This place should be shut down. Shame on them for treating people this way. This is not how people deserve to be treated. It seems like a place that was put together with the cheapest garbage they could find and then abandoned and forgotten. I wouldn't send my worst enemy to this hell hole let alone a loved one. I'm writing this review as a warning to others because there are no relevant reviews here. I sincerely hope someone will go look at this place and help those poor people. Clearly, they are lost souls whose families don't care about them. Someone should care. It breaks my heart to see these people suffering needlessly. Don't take my word for it. Check the place out for yourself. Wish I had taken pictures but they would not do justice to the horrors of this place. You must see, smell, and experience it for yourself. read more
