I had a check engine light two three months ago I needed to pass DEQ the owner had me leave the car two hours later I received a call telling me my OX sensors x2 and a EGR were both bad cost was 275.00 for diagnosis with parts and labor total 1,150.00 I agreed. I was told if I paid cash he would knock 50.00 off. I drove it for a while went to DEQ and before I got there the light came back on. The 4th time I demanded my money back and he called the police. I stopped in today as I've had nothing but trouble since I was told to replace the OX sensors x2 and found out he put the wrong sensors on and possibly altered wire connector. I wanted to know where he got the parts so I could get my money back and he made me leave again. I believe he did this on purpose. My 2010 Ford Escape broke down on I-205 on 4-15-25. I had it towed to AVI after calling to ask if I could bring it in. I had read a couple of good reviews on nextdoor.com. The AAA guy had looked under my car and noticed the serpentine belt was hanging. Upon arriving the AAA driver politely let know the owner, Hiep, know about the serpentine belt hanging. Hiep barely acknowledged him and looked away. I was shocked that he didn't say thank you and smile, and I had a bad feeling about Hiep right then. The AAA driver looked at me and said, Good luck! I left the car overnight and called the next morning and he told me I needed my new serpentine belt, water pump, and all of the things that go along with that. The price was $783. I had also asked him to check my air conditioning that didn't work and approved for him to pour Freon in. He told me that air conditioning was fine when I knew it wasn't because it hasn't worked for 2 years! When I picked the car up, he acknowledged the air conditioning doesn't work which I obviously knew, and it would cost $850 for him to fix it. He showed me where it was leaking from the compressor and said it needed a new compressor which I would do at another time. I picked the car up and ran a few errands and quickly noticed there was a funny sound coming from under the hood. I took the car back to heap a couple of hours later and asked him to please check it. He blatantly refused to check it and said the engine sounded fine to him. I told him I know what my car sounds like and that there is a noise that wasn't there before. We went back and forth about this and he refused to take my car and check it out. He walked away from me. I'm absolutely livid and at a loss right now. I don't have the money to have someone else double check his work at this time. The only recourse I have is to put this on Yelp and maybe the Better Business Bureau. Shame on him for not even checking my car out. I had a friend drive it with me and he noticed the noise as well. I don't advise this shop. I told him I'd heard good things about him so you would think he would want to make me happy to ensure I'd be a return customer. It would have been nice because he is not far from where I live. I'm watching my car closely and will have to wait until I can have it checked out by another shop. Stay away from this shop. read more

I have been going to Hiep and AVI Auto since I was 17 years old. My kids go here. My grandmother and her brother use to go here when they drove. In all of the years, and after reading through the reviews (yes some are extremely old), I have never ever had a bad experience with Hiep. His prices are fair, he's expedient, and his honest. Avoid at all costs!!! Initial costs ran into additional costs which ran into more additional costs and I had my vehicle towed elsewhere. I wish they just said they didn't know how to fix it. Now I'm out several hundred dollars, having to take the bus for a week and major amounts of stress. AVI have been taking care of our vehicles for quite a few years now and I have always found Hiep (the owner) and his staff to be an fantastic resource for our car care. He always communicates about possible outcomes / problems and if there's going to be additional costs if something is broken. I think Mike G. is absolutely spot-on when he says he believes he's too honest and it surprises people. I've been sitting and waiting for my oil change (about 25 minutes) and hear some stories of people coming in saying the dealership wanted to charge then lots of $$$ for something that wasn't the issue at all. For me, he'll let me know if there's a chance of costing more $$$ once he gets into the problem. Never a scheduling problem if I call a day or so ahead. Is there any way to give them a freaking ZERO! I have the Auto Care Super Saver voucher to save some money on oil change. I was hoping to find a local shop (instead of, say, Jiffy Lube to support the local community) I called to schedule an appointment for an oil change several months ago. Got an appointment that was two months out. Ridiculous! I scheduled it anyways. By the time the appointment is due, we didn't receive a courtesy call. I assumed we missed the call. Called again today, and same scenario. Two months out. And confirmed with the owner no courtesy call will be made. I will taking my business elsewhere. read more

If I could I would give them a negative 5. Went there with a misfire on cylinder 3. They said no misfire. So went with a timing belt kit which it needed anyway. Got my car back and over 1000 dollars later. Still misfiring. Took my car somewhere else. Oh and by the way the check engine lite was not on. I'm surprised by the low scores with this place. I've been taking my vehicles to AVI for 11 years and have nothing but good things to say about them. Fair, honest, fast. I have my oil changes done here and am able to get an appt the next day or even the same day. Hiep is extremely honest. One time my car was making a funny noise and I described it to him over the phone. He said it might be the catalytic converter and that it could end up costing around $1000. Then I brought the car in and he ran tests and called to tell me it was something else and that it would only cost $200 to fix. Now, he could have told me it was the catalytic converter afterall and I wouldn't have known the difference because I know so little about cars. I redeemed an Auto Care Super Saver voucher which I purchased for oil changes because I was hoping to find a reputable local auto care center. I called to make an appointment for an oil change and was told they were over a month out on reservations. I tried to book an appointment and was told that I must drop my car off by 8 am and wait 1 - 1.5 hours. I explained that I need an appointment after noon because of work and the owner told me "You win some, you lose some" and would not make an appointment. They were awesome. I had a tire that was bent in and I had to be towed home from down town to se 82nd from my job running deliveries. I was gonna have to miss work the next day and a friend suggested avi auto so I took it there. They were super nice, had my car done 4 hours before I had to be at work, and they gave me a quote and didn't call and keep raising it like other places. There is no other machanic who I trust. AVI Auto repair is the place to go. Heip (the owner) is awesome. I took it to a machanic in Vancouver after failing emissions, gonna to keep the machanic shop anonnomus. They claimed that the pulled up 20 codes on there little dianostic machine, so they say. Than they said they needed a little more time. They didn't go off the sheet that emmissions gave me they went with what the dianostic machine said and gave it the okay to drive. I took it to Heip gave him the emmisions slip. The first thing he said was a stuck shut Thermostat, and don't drive it. After saying that he took his dianostic machine to my car and pulled up 2 codes. If you want a mechanic who is Honest, Trustworthy, and will get the job right, take it to AVI Auto repair, and talk to Heip. He will take good care of you and Treat you like family. I have the greatest trust in his expertise and his efforts to balance the concept of a "perfect servicing job" with a realistic understanding and concern regarding value from the perspective of his customer; cost vs. overall return. Most importantly though, I appreciate his impeccable character, his ability to smile even while working as hard as he does each day, and his sense of responsibility and excellence in how he performs his job. I had a voucher that turned out to be useless because they insist on appointments and then book over a month out. Then they want to keep the car half the day. Who has time for this? They also tried to replace my radiator for hundreds of dollars when it was only a clamp that another shop had failed to tighten fully when I had some previous radiator work done (the other shop fixed it for free). This is not a low quality, quick lube place, so don't bother going if you only want fast and poor quality workmanship. Went here off of recommendations. Manager tried to tell me that fixing my car issue would be $1000! After calling into multiple other repair shops everybody quoted me a third of the price for the same fix. I asked him to break down the dollar amount per part to better understand why he was so much more expensive. He wouldn't break down any part prices and would not explain why he wanted to charge me 3 times as everybody else! This is obviously a case of him trying to take advantage of a woman!!! read more

Hip is the best. He's never let us down and his prices are very reasonable. We heard about him from a fireman who said Hip used to work on the fire department vehicles. Very knowledgeable and will bend over backward to help the customer. Having moved here from California and not knowing a good mechanic, it has been such a relief to find this shop. I have had several things fixed with AVI and everything had went great, but not this time. I took my vehicle in for several major repairs. Two of the repairs were to replace door locks. When I inspected the repairs the Bezel where all the buttons are on the driver's door, was broken, the piece above that was not attached properly. I took it back several times. The owner (Hep) just wanted to glue it, but it doesn't stay down. I requested a new Bezel. The Ford dealership said that part is no longer made, so then I requested a used one, and Hep said he found one. But my car came home without it. Had to go back again. So I went and found a used Bezel. The owner refuses to pay for this part. The Bezel was broken at his shop, and it should be replaced by him, and he refuses. So I called BBB and made a complaint. I Also called the Attorneys General Office and made a complaint. They said the need everything in writing. So I typed a letter to the owner stating everything that had happened with dates, and let him know that I had made those phone calls. I hand delivered the letter. He said he wanted to talk. I stated again to him that I want the part he broke......to be replaced......He started yelling at me.......So I had to leave. Rating should be a Zero. All I wanted was the part they broke to be replaced. Now I have to take my car somewhere else and pay more to get it fixed. ......MW...07/2014 read more

This place takes advantage of people not versed in automotive repair. They charged my nanny almost $500 to change an alternator. They told me the Alternator alone was $250....I called several supply stores and the most expensive one for the year, make and model was $209. Most of them cost around $120. They then charged an additional $250 for a half hour job. HIGHLY recommend getting other quotes before taking it here. Buyer Beware. read more
