It's actually a 0 star. Terrible care. They were not friendly and they did not show any empathy or drive to help.. the Vet AND the techs had such attitudes. I will never go back. No dog deserves to suffer in a waiting room vomiting several times, dealing with dehydration and lethargy then not be offered care until 4 hours later especially when THEIR advice was to come in and be seen right away. Nobody wants to have to use the emergency vet services because it's scary for your pet, for you, and for your budget. But in the end, knowing we have Avets and their team of medical staff caring for our dog made everything a little better and easier to go through. Avets cared for our dog as though she were their own pet, making her comfortable and calm. The medical team helped us make the best decision for our dog, albeit a tough one. They recognized that cost of care can be prohibitive to clients, which I thought showed empathy in our time of emotional and financial uncertainty. In the end, we made the choice that we felt would be easiest on our dog and her recovery, and AVETS helped us feel confident in that decision. You see, our doggy was attacked by a deer and it broke her leg. We were left with the choice of trying to fix it with a plate, screws, weeks of recovery, and possibility of re-injury. Or the decision to amputate her leg. It was a heart wrenching choice to make, but the surgeon helped me take some of the guilt out and put our dog's needs and recovery top of mind. We did choose to amputate, and now are helping our tripod doggy through her recovery. I feel lucky to have her still, at 12.5 years old. I know many people who take their pets to AVETS are taking them in to say goodbye. I think our community is lucky to have the AVETS team there to help us through all of it. One small thing I especially liked was that our dog has high anxiety, and only weighs 10 pounds. She's frequently shaking from nerves or from chill. Avets let us bring in one of her sweaters and kept it on her after her procedure. They also had a blanket she was wrapped in while in their care. I appreciate that they took time to make sure she felt warm and safe. They also had updates for us whenever we called to check on our pet, and the front office staff always spoke to us with compassion and optimism. read more

would put zero stars if I could. receptionist was incredibly rude, annoyed I wanted to have my sick pet looked at by a doctor and i had the absolute audacity to expect to be seen before 8 hours went by which seemed to further annoy them. I guess I'm in the wrong for expecting a vet hospital open 24/7 to actually see your pets. I saw several other pet owners come after me and give up and just go somewhere else after four hours of waiting. People do not go to a veterinary hospital with their exorbitant costs unless their pet is in duress. the vet tech was at least friendly, but all she did was take vitals which I can do myself and test my dog for parvo without actually ever bothering to come out and tell me the test results. if you want to take your dog somewhere so you can sit and wait while it possibly dies in your car for eight hours, this is the place for you. what is the point of a 24:7 vet hospital that expects you to wait until every other vet is open when you arrived at 11:50pm. don't give this company money. they don't deserve it. my dog happened to have a standard vet appointment the next morning at 9am and I may as well have just waited until then while sitting there hoping my dog doesn't die. thanks for absolutely nothing. Went from 2-4 hours and then 4-8 hours and we left when they told us it would be another 8 hours! And my cat was critical! I cannot throughly express how disappointed I am in AVETs. My dog sustained painful injuries to her paw pads leaving her very hesitant to walk and unwilling to even change positions while laying down. We arrived around 6pm and were told it would be an extended wait, which we were very understanding of and peacefully complied. A tech/nurse checked her vitals shortly after we arrived, but nobody looked at her injuries to even assess the severity. Our wait ended up being over 10 hours long, it was 4:30am when we were told that the vet would be unable to see us and we needed to find somewhere else to go. They gave us recommendations which was appreciated. It's frustrating to wait that long and not even be seen, but we were of course empathic of the other pets and families having a more difficult time, just as we were empathic of our own dogs situation. My fiancé and I also work in healthcare, so we understand how triage works and that some animals need to get seen first. What we are having a hard time coming to terms with is that an owner, who brought his pet in well after we checked in, was seen and discharged hours before us, and it seemed he jumped ahead of us simply because he worked there. An emergency came in right after that pet's discharge, which we believe is what left us unable to be helped. If my facts are wrong I would love to be corrected, but for now I needed to share what feels like unfair treatment to our poor pet. Every time I called for updates, it was always stable and such a sweet boy. But what you don't know, is unless you have anywhere from 6000 to 20,000 lying around, your pet is not getting the care they need. Sure, they might be giving fluids or some medications, they keep it to a very minimum until they get the money quote that was given to you. I have pictures to prove this situation. They lied saying my dog was getting the proper care all along, when in reality he wasn't, and the staff member I talked that morning made the quote, "yes we received your payment, I will let them know to resume care" really?, insane but yet they tried to make me the bad person calling me unprofessional because i lost it verbally with them telling them they were killing my dog and not treating him,. When we went to pick him up to bring home, told he was stable, do you think bleeding out his nose, passing huge clots, mouth and tongue covered in blood, grunting, because he cannot breathe is stable, well in my eyes, he was suffering and dying.But you don't care because you got your money. We were not about to take him back and be put down there, due to lack of care and we were not giving you another cent. We had no other options and he had to suffer, because you drained every penny we had and then some. I don't want to see a reply on here from avets, because it's all the same response you give to everyone who bashes your name and nothing but lies. TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE My 9 pound dog was attacked by a pit bull breed. I completed the online registration for Avets and went to Avets at approximately 10:30 pm. In the meantime I sustained a dog bite during this event, but prioritized ny dogs care. I informed the registration clerk at Avets. I was sent a link to fill out paperwork that I had already completed only to be told that they would see me as soon as they could. At approximately 1:50 am I received a text telling me that they had just reviewed my form and basically couldn't see me. Waste of time and no regard for people read more

I am never here because I want to be here but if you have to be in the situation, this is definitely not a bad place to be. The waiting area is very nice and comfortable. There are couches as well as chairs and a huge TV that you will be watching for many hours. I want to explain what it's like being here because the first time I had to come I thought that the wait time was gonna be a lot shorter, and I was not prepared. They do not have many doctors on site, which I do not think it's their fault. However, that means that you could be waiting anywhere from 4 to 12 hours to meet with someone even if it is emergency. I cannot stress enough to come prepared. Bring snacks bring blankets. Be ready to sleep in your car if you want. They do provide some coffee and snacks in the waiting room as well. My situation unfortunately it was a sad one and I felt that the staff and the doctors were very supportive and helpful and help me make the right decision in the end. No veterinarian care is affordable. However their prices are reasonable I highly recommend getting a care card so you can make payments. It is excepted there and it is a very useful credit card so you don't have to pay everything off a month later you can pay off in six months to a year. this is a lengthy review, but this is everything I wish I would've known my first time around. Ember was a 12 month old Great Dane. She turned 1 on 3/21/2023. A baby, still. Fully vaccinated, in perfect health. Thursday 3/30, my sister-in-law texted me that Ember had massive diarrhea overnight Wednesday to Thursday. Throughout the day she got sicker - throwing up yellow bile, lethargic, still not eating. When she threw up a 2nd time we decided to try and get her in to emergency vet. Cheat Lake was not seeing patients due to lack of staff. PVSEC and Blue Pearl had 10+ hour wait times. Finally, I called Avets. Because Ember is a giant breed and her stomach was tender, they said she would be considered a critical case and to bring her in. As I was on my way to pick her up, she had diarrhea again which my SIL placed in a baggie for me. I completed the online registration at 7:32 pm and drove over to Monroeville. I presented Ember at around 8 pm the front desk. Lethargic, drooling, eyes sunken in from dehydration, nose and eyes running with red mucus. We sat in the waiting room at Avets for over 3 hours. Now - I understand completely that life threatening emergencies happen and must be taken care of first. But Ember was fading by the minute. I begged them to give her fluids. They refused. She had to see a vet. That's their "policy." At 11:40 pm, they took her to triage. She immediately threw up a large pile of yellow puke. The vet tech couldn't find a thermometer, so she disappeared to go find one at which time she threw a pee pad on the vomit pile. Never even wiped it up. She came back and said after discussing with her supervisor, she did not feel Ember was in eminent danger. The wait time to see a doctor was at minimum 5 hours, barring any "life threatening emergencies." It could be as short as 4 hours, or longer than 6. She said she believed Ember may have had an obstruction (which is also an emergency)y Again, I asked for fluids. All care was refused. Since my vet would be open not long after I would be able to see their vet (allegedly...) I decided to bring Ember home and take her to her vet first thing this morning. We tried everything to get fluid in her. Rice, chicken broth (warm and cold,) maple syrup, whipped cream. She clamped her mouth shut and refused. Thankfully I gated her off upstairs where the floor is hardwood. At 6 AM, Jason woke me up. Ember had diarrhea and he smelled it through his CPAP. We walked in the living room to find a puddle of bloody diarrhea and Ember laying on the LoveSac covered in slobber and shit. She could barely open her eyes and would not lift her head. We loaded Ember up to head to her vet's office. She threw up on the way there, and Jason carried her out of the car. She managed to walk to the exam room and collapsed. Dr. K did a parvo test and within minutes it popped positive. Avets looked at this dog, with bloody, runny diarrhea, bloody mucus in her eyes and nose and very obvious dehydration while vomiting and said her condition was not life threatening. They never even mentioned the word Parvo. The vet tech refused to take the poop to test it. That means my dog was in their parking lot, in their waiting room for 3+ hours and in a triage room WITH PARVO. Not only did they almost kill her, every other person and dog that was in their clinic was exposed to parvo. Ember died hospitalized at her vet's office on 4/1. Less than 24 hours after Avets deemed her condition "concerning." read more

We were at AVET recently, and I was very impressed by the staff and especially Dr. Geesaman, he took great care of Milo, and Milo really liked him. I've been very worried about Milo he has ongoing gastrointestinal issues. My go to Veterinarian suggested AVET and the internal medicine doctor to consult with on Milo's flare ups. Dr. Geesaman is awesome, very kind, and informative. He explained every procedure that they were doing and what they were looking for, and how we were going to treat Milo. The facility staff and Dr. Geesaman deserves a 5-stars rating. I am so very happy Milo is getting the care he needs. I'm very greatful that we went to AVET read more

The vet was so rude she wouldn't let us talk she kept interrupting me as I was trying to explain what her home veterinarian said! They wanted over $1200 for X-rays and blood work. She told us we need to do better and talked down to us the entire visit. I would not recommend coming here! We were told that our dog would be out soon and we waited over an hour for her to get fluid under the skin and anti- nausea medication. They wanted her to stay overnight and get another x-ray in the morning like the first x ray wouldn't show what was wrong. BUT today 8-7-2023 around 5pm I brought my little Tuxedo kitty, Rocky (not even 2 years old yet..) the front desk "ladies" and staff I dealt with were HORRIBLE, NO COMPASSION, RUUUUDE, NOOOO SYMPATHY, and LIARS!!? I wish I could give more stars for this place. They are amazing and so compassionate. My 13 year old yorkie poo got sick on Friday . I took her to my vet on Saturday and they gave her fluids, anti nausea, antibiotics and drained a lump on her back. He wanted me to bring her back Monday morning but she was worse on Sunday so we took her to Avets in Monroeville. Unfortunately, we had to put her down. They were so compassionate and caring from the staff, vet tech and dr. . Couldn't have asked for better in this horrible situation. They let you spend as much time as you want with them. Activily sitting in the waiting room for my service dog, who was supposed to be brought out over an hour ago. She's been seen, and they wanted to charge me $4,000 for an overnight visit. I refused and said no, it's too steep. Explained I'll take her to her primary vet in the morning after they give her IV fluids. They did and told me that she would be out shortly. The girl at the desk, a red head, has a rude personality and told me they had an emergency but would check on it. She has yet to leave the desk to even ask the veterinarian, who told me in the exam room that her discharge papers were already completed. So where is my dog? I don't know, but if you have a service animal brought in, they take presidency due to their obligations to the handler, apparently not to these people. read more

Living where I live it is hard to find an emergency vet to take a pet to in your time of need. I recently found myself in a predicament that made me need to visit. I had called ahead to make sure that they were indeed open, so as to not waste a trip. I showed up here in the wee hours in the morning after I had finished up for work. I was exhausted, not only from just working, but from worrying. I had been worrying about my cat for some time because of what appeared to be an infection forming. Of course when this happens you start to think the worst in the world. So when I get there I am warmly greeted at the reception area and fill out my paperwork. Being the early hours of the morning I was the only one there. Taken back right away and my cat's exam starts. Once the initial exam was completed, we go to a room and wait for the vet to come in and talk treatments. After a quick once over of my cat he let's me know his intent to move forward. As he is telling me this I am fighting back tears as my cat and I have been together for so long that I start to imagine what it would be like to lose him. The vet can see this and assures me that if, not when we get to that point, we will have another conversation. That right there put me at ease. The compassion shown to me and my pet let me know I was in the right place at the right time. He took my cat back and I went to the waiting area, mind numb, and just waited. The vet came out and let me know that he would be fine and that they are going to give him some antibiotics and send him home. I was relieved and I had to fight back tears again, of happiness this time. I was so grateful with how professional they were through it all. I was a mess, but they were there to clean me up. Thank you for that. **Side note, a few weeks later my cat passed, but at no fault of this business. I still am so happy at how we were treated. read more

I felt like they take advantage of people with sick animals for a profit so I took my dog to my regular vet and the entire procedure and everything included only cost 800. Went with a time critical emergency. Easy to treat, but yet we're forced to wait for hours and missed the window for an easy fix. Got an excuse that they couldn't do anything when we got there anyways even though they said they could. Ended up going to another emergency vet and our puppy ended up having to stay for 2 days at a considerable cost. They even things us that had AVETS just done the simple act of inducing vomiting right away when we got there, that would have been a better solution with minimal long term damage. read more

I had the worst experience at Avets and would never go back. I took my dog in at 7 p.m. and he was examined by the vet at 9 p.m. He needed sutures and was bleeding all over their floor. I was told it would be another two hours before he would get care. They took my dog in the back and never communicated with me what was going on. I started reading reviews about this place and got ample warning to leave. My sister had taken her dog here and was not happy with the place and told me to get out of there. I wish I would have listened to her advice. At 3 a.m. my dog was still in the back and I assumed that he was getting sutures to his laceration on his paw. I asked the front desk staff and I was told that the vet had not started to work on him yet. OMG! No communication at all. I was told that there is only one vet and that they don't want to start working on him b/c an emergency could come in leaving the vet tied up with my dog. I would think that this could happen at any time since they call themselves an emergency vet place. How ridiculous is this answer! Anyway, I told them I want my dog and would go somewhere else. I got slammed with a $300. bill. They waited until 2 a.m. to give him pain medication. Seriously? I ended up going to VEG in East Liberty and the experience was like night and day. So happy I found a decent emergency vet. I would never go back to Avets. They grabbed my $ and never provided vet. care. There was another dog waiting the same amount of time as me and never got vet. care either. Buyer beware!! read more

This place is terrible and very incompetent. I came in with my cat at 9:00 p.m. on Thursday evening, and never was seen 11 hours later. I ended up walking out and going elsewhere. My cat was having seizures, and was not eating, or drinking, he was very sick. They took every other animal before mine, even ones less sick than mine. However, even those patients had waited for many hours. The technicians are lazy and incompetent, as are the vets. The lack of knowledge and skill was mind blowing. They are only concerned about getting your money. They could truly careless about the patient. This facility is beyond ridiculous and incompetent. Don't trust this place, go somewhere else. We had to come back a few days later, as there was something obviously wrong...and they wanted us to put EVEN MORE money on my credit card. They would not honor the fact that what they did the 1st time required more work on my pet. Luckily, I was able to take my pet to another vet. The other vet only charged me 1/10 th of what Avets wanted to charge me the 2nd time. The 2nd vet is cooperating in full with my attorney and is willing to testify against Avets. This is not a place you ever *want* to bring your pet, but if you do have to come here, you and your friend will be treated with kindness and care. We have visited this location twice: once after my dog was hit by a car and once in her old age. The care we received both times was excellent. On our most recent visit, we had to make the difficult decision to help our dog's life come to a close. The doctor gave us space to talk it over, and once we had decided, they set up a little room with a blanket down so we could lay with her and spend as much time as we needed before saying goodbye. I was allowed to have her head in my lap so I could pet her as the medication took effect. The professionalism and compassion from the doctor during such a hard day really touched me and helped make this transition as easy as possible. I had to come out of yelp retirement to give this place some love. Highly recommend. They're keeping people very safe with COVID. It sucks to have to wait in your car, but it's the right thing to do. Our cat was hit by a car & in really bad shape. The vet who spoke to us over the phone about her was kind, took her time, was clear about our options and the cost/extent of trying to keep her alive. She gave us all the information and let us make our own decision, but when we decided to put her down, she said that's what she would have done for her own cat, which was reassuring. We were able to cuddle with our cat in a small room for that purpose as she left us. They sent us a wonderful sympathy card in the mail a few days later. I just picked up her ashes and was kind of expecting a bag or a plastic urn...they were in a beautiful carved wooden box accompanied by a thoughtful ceramic pawprint with her name. We had the sense throughout this experience that even while they were busy and had a lot to manage with COVID restrictions, they were still compassionate and knew how hard it was to lose a pet. read more

During my cats 4 day stay at Avets he was given medication for hyperthyroidism. He was given 1/2 of 5mg tablet 2x/day at a charge of $10/dose. A quick look online and I found the same pill for $0.16/ 5mg tablet. When I questioned the charge I was told that was the minimum the company charges for that medication. No adjustment for only receiving 1/2 a pill. Outrageous!!! He did receive good medical care but they did not return 2 previous phone calls. read more

But the fact that they did a physical examination and said they didn't know what was wrong with the leg unless they did an X-ray was bs it was very easily a broken bone and they had the audacity to say it could possible be a big bruise. On top of the 1k bill they said he would not be able to take the splint off but within 12 hours of discharge my cat took off the splint and the cone and they said we hand to bring him back to get resplinted and it would cost $300 even though they were the ones who failed to make sure it wouldn't be able to come off read more

My cat stayed at Avets for special IV fluids and tests for 4 nights in 2021. They saved her life and for that I am very grateful. A month ago on a Saturday, my dog was disoriented, wobbling and not eating or drinking, I took him in, waited an hour and was seen by a tech. She took my dog in to be looked at by the vet. She came back said the bet didn't think he would be ok, try baby food and see his vet on Monday.i was asking her was she sure. Yes he was not critical in their eyes, I knew better, no where else to go. He died a few hours later. Seizures, stopped breathing.
