Dr Peery was great. All staff worked quickly and effectively to treat my dog after being potentially poisoned. I appreciate them being the only vet open on Sunday, that can treat hospital level emergencies, within 20 miles from me. They did not add any unnecessary treatment and felt the urgent care bill was fair. read more

Veterinary Care I would strongly caution anyone considering AVETS for an emergency with their pet. My 120-pound dog, Chaos, was becoming progressively weak and unable to walk properly. Earlier that same day, our regular veterinarian performed bloodwork and testing and informed us that he tested positive for anaplasmosis, a tick-borne bacterial infection. We were told doxycycline would be called into our pharmacy. It wasn't. After giving Chaos the medication prescribed by our veterinarian, (novox )his condition worsened to the point that he could not stand. We took him to AVETS for emergency care. ( It says if they suddenly collapse after taking the pain meds to seek immediate help online.) We waited approximately 15 minutes for assistance getting him out of the vehicle, despite explaining that he could not walk. My husband and I ultimately had to physically support our 120-pound dog into the hospital ourselves. After we were taken to a room, I provided AVETS with the positive test results from earlier that day and specifically asked that Chaos be examined in the room because he could not safely walk. He was nevertheless taken away for an extended period of time. I felt as if he were being held hostage as I asked several times WHERE IS MY DOG. When the doctor finally spoke with us, we were presented with numerous possible diagnoses and recommendations for additional testing, including an MRI. What was most frustrating was that the doctor would not accept or act upon the positive test results from our veterinarian earlier that same day. We were told, essentially, that the results on my phone could have come from anywhere. That I could of made the results up myself. We are seeking antibiotics, not NARCOTICS. I asked that AVETS contact our veterinarian and/or pharmacy regarding the missed doxycycline prescription. Instead, they refused to prescribe it and recommended steroids while pursuing additional diagnostics. Steroids lower immunity, when he was already compromised with anaplasmosis. NOT a smart decision and I did not give them to him. We had already spent approximately $500 that same day on veterinary testing and were now watching our dog deteriorate. I understand that emergency veterinarians must consider multiple possibilities, and I understand that additional testing may sometimes be necessary. What I cannot understand is why there was so little communication or coordination with the veterinarian who had examined our dog only hours earlier and performed the testing. When I said just give me the bill so I can pay it and go somewhere else, they said at first " you didnt even see the doctor yet " I SAID YES I DID. They went in back and came back out and said " shes with another patient now and you have to wait until she is done to tally up your bill " So we waited another half hour outside in my car with my poor dog laying in the back seat until they finally came out and took payment. We ultimately left and sought care elsewhere. This experience left us feeling dismissed, frustrated, and extremely concerned for our dog's well-being. When you bring a critically ill pet to an emergency hospital, you expect urgency, communication, compassion, and collaboration. Based on our experience, we will not be returning to AVETS, and I would encourage other pet owners to carefully consider their options before choosing this facility. I wouldnt even give it 1 star if it was possible read more

Avets - Chaos - Veterinarians Near Me - Monroeville, Pennsylvania

I wish I could give negative stars. Truly a nightmare dealing with this place. A predatory, manipulative, and money hungry establishment. My Great Dane had a foreign body bowel obstruction diagnosed by our local vet, but their surgeon was out of town. I was told to go to an emergency animal hospital in either Monroeville or Pittsburgh, because his condition is an emergency and he needs surgery, "today", said my vet. He was sick for 3 days prior to this. Monroeville is easier for me to get to, so I took all the clinical documentation given to my by my vet, and rushed my dog to Avets. We got there and had an immediate wait. He was eventually triaged, then we were sent back out into the waiting room despite his suffering. This is where our 12 HOUR wait began as my dog deteriorated and became severely dehydrated. During our wait, several other dogs in much less dire condition (tails wagging, jumping, etc) walked in hours after we'd already been there, and were discharged within a very timely manner while my dog suffered and deteriorated with a medical emergency. Finally, at 1:35am, I was able to speak to a veterinarian about my dog's condition. We were told surgery would be $7000 upfront, and in this economy, that isn't the kind of money most people have between the couch cushions. We opted for medical management to the tune of $2200 so we could have time to think and possibly come up with additional funds. Keep in mind, we paid these people this much to care for him for *at least* 24 hours. That's their job. At 3:30am, our dog was admitted and we were able to go home. Less than 12 hours later, we were called multiple times, told he needed surgery or euthanasia as his condition had worsened. Basically rushing us to make a decision after they'd already made us wait for 12 hours. I guess they don't like caring for patients whose owners don't have unlimited money. We told them when we first got there that we knew he needed emergency surgery, but we were dismissed until they let our dog deteriorate in their lobby for 12 hours. We were several hours out of town at this time, sleep deprived from the 12 hour night before, and ended up getting there at 4:30am the following morning. When we got there the next morning, I inquired who makes their triage decisions, because they clearly made the wrong call and need some kind of additional training obviously. The vet told me that a bowel obstruction only becomes an emergency when sepsis occurs, so essentially my pet wasn't sick enough to do surgery on, despite several other less serious cases being discharged before us. A tech was extremely rude, condescending, and disrespectful. I matched her energy and she didn't like it. Refused to give us our dog unless we signed papers we disagreed with, then threatened to call the cops on us if we didn't leave without our dog. Illegal to keep my property against my consent, by the way, so she needs to brush up on the law. We finally got our dog back after arguing with them for an hour. The male veterinarian was cold, clinical, and lacked compassion. More concerned with his rude staff's feelings than my dog. The tech I dealt with disrespected my mother. They seemed more concerned about getting their money than caring for my dog. Fortunately, our local vet was able to save our dog for a fraction of the asinine price they were asking for. Do not bother with this place. You'd be better off waiting out your local vet or going to Pittsburgh. Money-grabbing, evil people who try to con you with pet insurance because they charge 3x the amount as a normal vet for the same care. They did nothing for my dog and charged us $2200 for it. Never again. read more

I've had to take my cat Sonny to Avets a few times over the years due to an asthma attack. Everyone there has been very kind and caring. Sonny's great now (almost 15 yrs. old). I usually don't review or rate any business, but in this case I am. I see a 2.5 out of 5. That's ridiculous! These people are very professional and care about your pet(s) when you take them for emergency care. read more

Too bad they don't offer negative ratings. First, my dog was diagnosed by another Urgent Care Vet Office with acute hemorrhagic colitis and severe dehydration. He is now on the mend... no thanks to Avets. After I sat in the waiting room at Avets Monroeville for over 16 hours, thinking (because I was told) that my dog would be seen at any time, I watched his condition deteriorate, while being treated like my dog's condition was not severe enough to be seen. I kept justifying our wait time with the thought that of course those other cases where bumped ahead, because they were so very urgent, and that I would want my pet to get that same treatment. But when no other patients were left, no other critical cases arrived, and 8 additional hours passed without a peep other than, "we haven't forgotten about you", enough was enough. I sought care elsewhere. I would recommend you do the same, from the beginning. Obviously Avets did not consider his condition emergent. As it turns out the NON-Avets clinic intake and doctor considered Acute hemorrhagic colitis to be severe. He was triaged and placed in the care of a doctor within 10 minutes of our arrival. Had Avets informed us at arrival, that they only had one vet working the night shift, that they would only have one vet working the day shift (we overheard staff comment about their lack of staffing, unfortunately it was 15 hours in to our wait), that I would sit in a horrendous waiting room, agonizing, while my pet (who was triaged at 6:30 pm and not again for 16 hours) suffered silently, I would have left immediately. I would guess the opportunity for a pay day beats the welfare of your pet everyday at Avets. read more

My dog suffered a seizure on a Sunday and I decided it was time to let her go. She had cancer of the spleen and hadn't eaten anything for 11 days. I couldn't let her suffer. We took our girl Seira to AVETS due to some reoccurring back injuries she was experiencing. We also took her sister Sadie. Both girls are reactive when around other people and pets so we waited outside. We were brought in through a side door as to avoid the waiting room. The visit was EXCEPTIONAL! We were able to discuss Seira's issues and possible solutions/options. Dr. Sandler and her technician were great. We weren't rushed and we left feeling that we had a plan going forward for future episodes, that we were told would most likely occur. This was our first visit but we will definitely return if/when we need this type of care for our girls. read more

Took my diabetic, geriatric, pet over two hours because it was told it was imperative she be seen by their front office staff. If you love your dog, dont go here. They triaged her without bothering to check her blood sugar - so apparently after taking five minutes to look at her, taking her blood sugar to make sure she was stable was too much effort. We have been waiting since 9. Its almost 2. We were just informed they wont see her for several hours. They have an "emergency". I want to be clear my issue is not w that. But with the fact they have one doctor on staff an emergency vet so they are prepared for one emergency a night? They decided on a whim my dog wasnt an emergency without checking her. Then waited hours to tell us about the wait after lying to my face and telling us we could go elsewhere. Horrible care, unprepared. Shes been puking for hours, diarrhea, and diabetic . Shes also 14. This is a big deal for an older dog which is why we drove 2 hours for care because our vet closes early. Dont go here if you have a choice. Read reviews on google if you dont believe. Evil, sham practice. I joined yelp so I could warn others abojt these assholes. read more

Horrible business! Not professional at all! PLEASE DONT TAKE YOUR PET HERE!!! They only want your money. I could have taken my dog to McDonalds and got better care. My poor dog was hit by a car and they gave her zero meds to help with pain. They put her in a cage for 2.5 hours and ignored her, charged me and then sent us home. They do not care about your pet. I rarely write reviews, but I feel a deep responsibility to share our experience at AVETS. I brought my dog to AVETS for vomiting and a possible obstruction at the direction of our regular veterinarian with a sense of urgency. Obstruction is a time-sensitive, potentially life-threatening condition. We waited nearly 4 hours in the ER, and during that time he received only a single weight check and no medical care whatsoever. No IV fluids, no bloodwork, no exam, and no follow-up on his vitals despite being sedated for imaging and unable to drink water all day. I understand emergency triage and the need to prioritize critical cases. But at no point were we given a time estimate, clinical update, or any sense that Mouse was being actively monitored. When I voiced concern about his dehydration and sedation, I was told fluids could not be started until a doctor saw him, yet no doctor ever came. The lack of urgency, communication, and basic supportive care in this situation was inexcusable. We eventually had to transfer him to another facility where he was seen and treated immediately. I appreciate the challenges that ER veterinary teams face. But leaving a sedated, dehydrated dog without treatment or a timeline for care for 4 hours is not a matter of being busy -- it's a failure in system design, communication, and basic veterinary responsibility. Please know that if you bring your pet here, even for a serious issue, they may wait hours without care read more

Stay clear of this place! They should not be allowed to stay in business on ethics alone. My Whoodle dog ingested some chocolate. I quickly googled what to do, but called Avets to get some next step advice. They redirected me to some Poison Control Center that wanted $110 just to hear my question! I agreed and then was put on hold for over a half hour! Finally, I hung up and called BluePearl on Camp Horne Road. Total professionals! Asked me all the questions... what kind of dog? How much was ingested? What kind of chocolate? etc. Calmed me down and advised me on what to watch for and at what point to bring her in should it be necessary. They ended with, "We're here all night. Feel free to bring her in at any point you don't like what's going on." THAT'S how an animal EMERGENCY hospital works!! Not quite sure how the AVETS staff sleeps at night. read more

I just want to start by saying, If you love your pet do not take it here, let me explain. We had an accident with a door and our love bird, his injuries were not as bad as it seemed. My girlfriend in a panic she took him to Avets in Monroeville. Without x-rays or testing they stated the bird was suffering from bleeding and brain swelling because his eyelid was swollen. Avets said he should have a grey ring in his eye "(his eyes are black as most of our lovebirds eyes are)"they stated he had blood behind his eyes and low vitals. We hand raise all of our birds and they are trusting to lay on their backs in your hand and are people friendly. Avets said he was acting incorrectly, too friendly. Someone consulted with my girlfriend and was trying to convince her euthanize him, even after he flew, was sitting up on his own, was alert and normal. When my girlfriend refused euthanization Avets then said they would need to give him extensive care @ $1500.00 a day. Then as if things weren't bad enough they had the ordasity to ask what the budget was for the bill? We were billed for 2 consults and they bill hourly. This has to be the most unprofessional and straight up rude way to conduct a business. She called me crying about everything going on and I'm in total disbelief that of what's going on. I talked to her on speaker till the vet entered the room, she stated they had pretty much done everything they could and it was our choice to take him home untreated by them? (I guess that was everything they could do right?) An injection for swelling and pain was administered upon arrival and it seemed to be working. A couple hrs later they were pressuring her into giving him another shot before they left. That would only be $100 on top of the $320.16 for one shot. We already had the meds at home, but I overheard the vet say it wasn't the correct dosage. It absolutely was according to a reputable vet that prescribed it. If we decided to take their advice and put him to sleep we would have lost our lovebird. We got nothing but negativity and a so called professional opinion based on absolutely nothing. Plus wasted hours doing nothing!! ( I CAN NOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH!!) If you love your pet do not take it to these folks because they are unprofessional, and absolutely don't care about anything but making money from your heartbreaking pet issues. Now a few weeks later he is 100% with no issues and with his mate and their 4 little ones. Every event is documented in this review. read more

If your pet isnt bleeding out on deaths doorstep, don't bother coming here. I went in because my dog had a swollen foot with a lot of pus coming out of it, it was obviously infected . All the other vets I called were 3 to 6 weeks out. I couldn't wait that long for something like that so I felt justified for the wait even though they told me that I'd be bumped back if emergency cases came in. After three hours, I finally got to the exam room just to check his vitals. After that they took him back to have his wound cleaned and medication's given. They Said I could come back in an hour and pick him up. Sat for another 2 1/2 hours. Then, when I said something to the receptionist, they went and checked on him and supposedly he was "just getting done "so I paid my bill. (every time I seen somebody else pay their bill, They got their animal back within two minutes immediately) well they took me back to hand my dog back to me and then I sat in an exam room for 45 minutes waiting for them to bring me my dog. I never felt so forgotten. At times throughout the day it was busy with a couple emergency pets but every time it died down, it seemed like no efficiency or no other doctor could do anything minor for the minor injuries on dogs. I also talked to a woman that was in there since 5 AM and they weren't giving her any answers. Their famous line was " we're busy with other clients emergencies," even if they obviously weren't and coming in. It seems like if they could have a dedicated doctor for minor injuries then the efficiency would go way up. I understand that it's an emergency trauma center for pets but stuff like an infection that I can't wait weeks for is also an emergency in my eyes. I do appreciate the fact that they were able to see me same day and I got medication's. They did clean his paw well. But if you have a minor injury, Id drive two hours to go somewhere else because it will probably be quicker. I was there for almost 7 hours. read more

After a 24 hour stay on March 13, 2026 my cat Dalia was given back to me soaked in urine from her waist down. The people at the front desk said that was baby wipes but she reeked. The treatment she received at a vet was horrible and they should be condemned for how they left her. They may have the equipment and facilities to do special care, but I'm horrified they couldn't keep her comfortable. read more

I don't know how these people sleep at night. The doctors were unsuccessful in their surgery on our cat. They kept trying to pump blood into an animal that was hemorrhaging (clearly for the $). The cat dies after days of them doing this, racking up more money. The total bill is over $10k on a (maxed on) care credit because my mom is on social security and living check to check. So she gets to go home without the cat they tortured and a bill that she can't pay. Now they have the nerve to charge $1,000 for cremation? This is not my opinion only. My best friend is a vet in the middle of the state who couldn't believe what they were doing and the subsequent charges. A bunch of inept, greedy vultures. This is just one (and the last) experience we've had here. Once they tried to euthanize our other cat for thrombosis. They refused to do any tests to verify saying the cat was in pain. The cat wasn't making a noise. Luckily we spent a lot of time crying and grieving before euthanizing because he could magically use his legs 40 minutes later. He is still alive 4 years later. Someone needs to take these folks to task legally. They are the worst. Thank goodness there are more ER vets opening up. If you love your pet, don't take them here. read more

Hello, im writing this review on behalf of someone else. If you can avoid coming to this place, please do. The lady that we saw was extremely rude to us, basically calling us broke, because we couldn't afford to pay 9 THOUSAND dollars. It costed 4k for them to even look at her and another 5k for her medicine. After explaining that we couldn't afford that price, they charged us 400 to get her back and then reported us for neglect since we couldn't pay, then proceeded to insult us by calling us broke. So on top of scamming, insulting, and wasting our time, our dog was only getting worse. When we went to a different vet they said she was on the brink of death when they looked at her. The new vet has only charged us $150 for keeping her overnight and the fluids they have her on. To make a long story short, f*ck avets and f*ck whoever that blonde lady was who insulted, scammed, and neglected our dog. Do not come here. read more

Unfortunately I would rather not have this experience to review an emergency vet however, life was lifing and here we are. I called a local vet (I am not local) they referred me here.. I called.. for the run down.. my drive was an hour... we arrived.. took puppers in.. we were signed in and asked to wait in our vehicle (due to puppers being possibly contagious and they were looking out for our puppers and all others that may seek treatment) we were greeted and taken care of by Aliz and Dr Benton. Very comprehensive, very compassionate and knowledgeable! We are very pleased with them, their services provided and their knowledge and leadership. They turned a bad day into optimism and transparency to which made a long day worth while. Teddy and Leah thank you lady's and your behind the scenes team. I hope not to be back, however if needed, we will graciously return and highly recommend. read more

Early Wednesday morning, I found my cat having a medical emergency due to newly diagnosed diabetes. I wrapped my cat in a towel and headed to AVETS. I decided to call before arriving to let them know I was coming. Upon calling, I was told that unfortunately they could not accommodate my cat because they were at capacity. They referred me to VEG but could not supply the phone number which meant I had to pull over and google the number. This time, I was met with a three hour wait. My vet opened at 8:00am for drop offs so I took my cat back home. I sat and watched her suffer until our vet office opened. I met my vet in the parking lot upon her arrival and she took her immediately. Shame on these so called 24/7 emergency vet services. If you can't accommodate every emergency don't list your business as 24/7 care. Unfortunately, my cat did not survive and the outcome would have been no different if She would have been seen sooner but she would not have suffered until my vet opened. read more

Dr. Ben Ley has been a true blessing to my family and we cannot recommend him enough! If you need a veterinary surgeon in the Pittsburgh area, he is absolutely the best. We brought our 13 year old lab, Jenna, to him for a front leg amputation due to osteosarcoma. While many vets might have dismissed her as too old to go through this surgery, we knew Jenna was strong enough and determined enough to be able to adjust to having 3 legs (I'm a veterinarian myself and knew medically there was nothing limiting this, despite her old age). Dr. Ley took the time to truly listen and understand the full picture of who Jenna is and what her capabilities were prior to her cancer. He actually treated her as an individual instead of just another case. He was incredibly compassionate, and the consultation filled us with so much hope and confidence in him. His demeanor was so pleasant and empathetic and we really felt like he cared about us and Jenna. During her hospital stay, he was very communicative and gave us plenty of thorough updates, and was patient enough to answer all of our many questions. He did an excellent job with the actual surgery and Jenna made a quick recovery. Thanks to Dr. Ley, Jenna is now RUNNING on 3 legs!!! She used to run all the time but hadn't run for months due to the pain from her cancer. She's jumping, playing, rolling around in the snow, and living her very best life. This is the happiest I have ever seen her and we are so grateful for this miracle. Thank you so much Dr. Ley and the whole AVETS team!!!! read more

We arrived at approximately 4:30. Waited 8 hours, and were not seen. 8 hours my cat spent in his small carrier. We left.

If there was a way to give a negative amount of stars I would. I called ahead of time to let them know that I was coming from 1.5 hours away and that my cat was vomiting blood. We got there at 9:30 PM and triage happened fairly quickly. Then we waited, and waited, and waited. They take pets in the seriousness of their case by order which is understandable. However, I waited until 2:30 AM, 5 hours without being seen. When I got there, there were 7 pets total. 1 other pet and mine waited for 2 hours while the rest had been seen. The front desk staff told me that they only had 1 doctor on. As an emergency clinic, HOW DO YOU ONLY HAVE 1 VET!? That is unacceptable! I work in healthcare, I get being short staffed, but I still take care of my patients and make sure their needs are met. They couldn't even give me an estimated time and just kept saying "we are backed up". If you are looking for a place to just sit, watch TV, and relax this is your place. UPDATE: I never thought I'd have to write something like this. Last night, (6/3/25) we rushed our sweet dog Blazey to the emergency vet (Avets) because he was struggling to breathe--he was gagging, coughing, and eventually throwing up foam and mucus. A nurse came out to the car about 20 minutes after we arrived and told us she would be back in 5-10 minutes to give him oxygen. We waited in the car for three hours. During that time, I went inside twice to remind them we were still waiting--scared and desperate. The second time, I brought in a video showing exactly what my dog was going through, thinking surely that would help them understand how serious it was. I explained he needed some kind of meds to help him calm down asap. Instead, the nurse came out and said, "How dare you act like this. Your dog isn't actively dying like the one I'm with." Then she told me there was no rush--and that if I didn't like the wait, I could leave. I wasn't asking to skip ahead of another emergency. I just wanted someone to acknowledge that my dog was in distress and that he mattered. Eventually, we left and took him to a second vet who finally saw him. But it was too late. He passed away 10 hours later. I will never know if getting him help or medication sooner could have changed the outcome. But I do know that we were treated with complete disregard when we needed compassion the most. There was no empathy, no communication, and no urgency--even when we were begging for it. To the nurse who told me "how dare you": How dare YOU. My dog may not have been dying in front of you, but he was suffering--and you failed him. I'm sharing this because no one should be made to feel invisible when they're trying to save their pet's life. If you work in emergency vet care, please remember: even if an animal doesn't look critical to you, they are someone's whole world. Treat them--and their people--with the care they deserve. Sincerely a heartbroken Fur Mom. read more

In a very unexpected emergency we rushed our beloved dog of 13 yrs to Avets when he collapsed in our yard. The receiving staff and other staff members all were calm prompt and caring. There were 4 of us and they took us to a room to wait. Dr. Benton came in with news that our dog was in serious trouble. Unfortunately her tone and manner when faced with 4 very emotional and devastated people was to treat this situation as if she was a worker in assembly line and this subject wasn't worth the time. We expressed to her do whatever it takes to save the dog, but her demeanor gave us the impression that we were wasting her time. When she came back she rushed thru a barrage of medical lingo and told us the dog was "dying" in a tone that sounded as if it was something we should know. We asked if we could be with the dog as he passed and we were hit with rules and regulations about the rooms being sterile and how she would have to go sew the dog up and wake him up (unnecessary btw) and argued for what seemed an eternity. Finally she agreed and within 5 minutes (that's all it took after 10 minutes of arguing) we were with our dear pet saying goodbye..even this she rushed us thru..before we left we confronted her about her lack of sympathy and argumentative nature and she had the gall to continue to argue with us as we are tearfully taking our deceased pet home. Dr. Benton should not be allowed to deal with the public. And after reading other unflattering reviews specifically pertaining to her..she should find a new profession... read more

very kind they recommended us to go to another vet (those ones were useless) but alas, the workers were kind

These folks were wonderful to us in a really difficult situation and got our cat in immediately when we arrived for diagnosis. They were compassionate and kind, but also straightforward in explaining our options. They got him stable and made him comfortable but unfortunately, we had to say goodbye. Difficult in the extreme but again, they were professional and compassionate. It was difficult, but due to circumstances we did not take his remains home. 3 days later, we received a package from Avets and they sent a cast medallion of his paw print. 7 minutes ago New If I could give negative reviews to this place, I would. A minor injury turned into a nightmare! My Pit is notorious for attempting to break out of her crate. My dog managed to injure her paw by getting it stuck between the door and the frame of the crate. Went to Avets for a closer look due to a possible deep laceration. When we arrived, they took us in right away. We were there for a couple hours and was discharged with some pain medications and an anti biotic. She was discharged with a diagnoses of minor injures and wounds, nothing to be concerned about. 2 weeks went by. I did everything I was told to do from medication to wound care. I started to notice my dog getting warm, very foul smell coming from paw, not able to apply pressure to paw along with not acting herself. While changing bandage, my partner noticed bone that was showing along with dead tissue from 2 of her pads We reported back to Avets as directed if condition changes. We arrived at Avets was taken to triage and was told she was in stable condition and sent back to the waiting room. In triage they did not even take the bandage off to evaluate her paw. We were not seen from 1145p-536am. After reading reviews on AVETS I found a lot of people went to VEG in East Liberty after walking out of Avets and I decided to follow the crowd. Within not even 1 hour, the vet found 3 critical findings to my dogs injury that is now going to cost my dog an amputation and significant wound care. Not to mention she was also found to have a joint that was completely severed from normal position and dislocated. THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS LATER AND IN THE NEAR FUTURE!!! This all could have been prevented and the infection could have been controlled. My dog didn't have to suffer like this. DO NOT GO TO THEM! read more

Zero stars. Very sick dog and they turned us away. No one in waiting room. Have been to this place twice and both times the care and kindness was awful. The most recent time - how do you turn away an emergency as an emergency hospital stating you're too busy. This place is in business because they're the only place of its kind near there. An even half competent 24-7 vet moves in across the street and they'd be boarding up in a day. Don't waste your time there or with them. read more

Terrible! DO NOT BRING YOUR PITT BULL HERE, I have a very sick pitbull and we LITERALLY are the only patients waiting 7 hours. They have seen every single animal BUT MINE even ones that came afterwards... because another dog got attacked by a pittbull and is in surgery mines is literally slipping away in the waiting room while EVERY single animal has been seen. They sent someone out here to pander me with an illogical explanation as to why my dog is is the only dog not being seen and to tell me the wait is 7 hours when others were seen in half the time and were quick to tell me if I leave now I don't have to pay -- I CANT LEAVE BECAUSE MY DOG IS THAT SICK! This waiting room was packed Every animal has been seen but mine. We walked in hours ago and now he can't even stand it's sad the only reason he's being seen is because I had to "make a scene" about the discrimination and because I posted this review... pray for us. read more

Never in my wildest dreams, did I ever think my dog would be gone. I leave this review to forewarn others before setting foot in AVETS emergency room. Late last evening, my dog became acutely ill, she began drooling excessively, panting, and appeared uncomfortable. We immediately jumped in the car and headed to avets. They took us in got us registered, quickly, and the nurse even remarks, "I dont like how she is breathing." So she takes her somewhere to check i presume her vitals, oxygenation, and she eventually comes back with my dog, and states everything is ok, her oxgen is good, the vet will be right in with you. An hour goes by, I poke my head into the hallway, not a soul to be found. The nurse then comes back to our room 15 minutes later and sees me pacing, and says there was another emergency, so it is going to be a little bit longer, when I pointed out my dogs continued respiratory distress, her response was, well i check her oxygen and she was fine. We then continued to wait, all the while, my dog is pacing, laying down, pacing, laying down, breathing heavily, the same we she presented when we walked in that emergency room door. 4 hours from our initial arrival my dog, plops on the floor for the last time, she loses control of bowel and bladder and goes limp. I start screaming help, my husband and daughter run frantically looking for some soul to come help us, which took going to the front desk and a phone call to alert of my unresponsive dog. Needless to say, she is now dead, they attempted CPR, to no avail. I was charged $722 to sit in an exam room to watch my dog suffer and eventually die. She was just 6 years old. I understand, emergency rooms are busy, but when the nurse herslef, points out her labored breathing, and then NEVER comes back to check after one time of it is going to be a while, is unacceptable. Now, my dog is dead. Maybe she had something go on that was going to eventually end her life, or maybe it was something that could have been fixed, either way, I will never know. Thank you AVETS for prompt management of my dog's respiratory distress. read more

My husband took our 2 year old cat because she was acting strange not really moving or eating. Cost us over $300 and they had her in the back for several hours to tell us that she had basically the flu. Brought her home and gave her a bath a couple days later when she started feeling a little bit better to find a hole in her backside that they missed. When I called them the day I found it, it was Christmas so I waited the next day to receive a call back.since I left a message with the receptionist I assumed they would call asap. I had to call them again the next day around one and the receptionist was very rude. I was told that I could not prove they missed the hole and they were not going to make it right. I wanted to know what they did for those hours they had her in the back, on the bill it said that they gave her a full inspection. If that's the case, how did they miss the hole? They of course we're happy for me to bring her back in and charge me over $300 again to fix the problems that they missed in the first place. read more

NO ONE Should EVER go to Avets! This place needs to be shut down and I honestly do not know how they are still open. They literally let my friends dog pass away in her car because they would not let her come in even though it was a very life threatening situation! We kept telling them she was getting worse and no one even cared. They have killed numerous pets and should be banned from doing business! If you ever need to go to an ER Vet go to Blue Pearl, V.E.G. or Cheat Lake!! read more

Took my boxer in when she got injured and needed stitches. Sat in waiting room for 6 hours before we were seen. They basically said yes she has some deep lacerations but we can't do anything about it for less than $6000+. When I asked what they could do, was told just bandage it. I said better than nothing till I can get her into our regular vet on Monday. We'll they charged me $2000, to put a dressing on t hat fell off before we got back to the waiting room. They tried to get it secured but kept coming off. Went back in the morning to get them to fix the screwup and got stuck in the waiting room for 4 hours before I just left. They appear to be incompetent and are just screwing people read more

Awful. I had to euthanize one of my dogs a few months ago, and they were fine. However it was at 2 am in the middle of the week. This time it was over the weekend. My dog was sick, so I registered online and went in. Was told 3-5 hours. Ok, again, it's the weekend, I'm not surprised. But as I'm sitting there, I'm watching people who came in after us going back to be seen. One guy who definitely came in after me threw a hissy fit so they ushered him in immediately. Dog was walking, wagging his tail. I understand some emergencies trump others, but these other pets didn't seem in anymore distress than mine. Oh, and no, you can't wait in the car for some reason. You have to sit in the cold, uncomfortable waiting room. 3 hours go by, and I look around to see that I'm the only one in the waiting room. So I ask how much longer and was told another 2-2 1/2 hours. I remained calm, and decided to go grab something to eat and drink. I ran to a gas station 5 minutes away, run in, come back out to missed call from, you guessed it, AVETS, saying they are ready to see my dog. At this point, I'm pissed and didn't even call them back. How did it go from 2 hours to five minutes? They texted my twice, the second time saying they're removing from the queue because I didn't answer. Go to hell. I ended up taking my dog to another hospital in Cheat Lake where he was seen in an hour, and thankfully is fine now. This experience ruined any positive thoughts I had of AVETS, and I will never set foot in this place again. Shameful, unprofessional, just all around foolishness here. I was the only person who looked like me there. Very curious if that was their motivation. Only thing I can think of. But it doesn't matter, because I'll never go here again. Zero stars should be an option on this app. read more

Very misleading over the phone. They told us to come and pay over $200 for an appointment just to make us come back on Monday because the appropriate doctor was not available. So they wanted us to pay twice instead of just telling us to come Monday on the phone. read more

I have utilized their services for two of my cats now. One has to be very careful judging an emergency vet hospital. It would be easy to judge negatively based on a negative outcome for, after all, it is an emergency service. For one cat, it wasn't an emergency so much as this is where they do the gold standard of radiation treatment for hyperthyroidism. The downside for my cat? They overshot the level of radiation and my cat became hypothyroid. It is considered a small percentage risk, but there ya go. It happened and it happened to my cat. Now kitty has to take daily meds, the same ones I take. But she is living well with the inconvenience at 17 years old now, 7 years since the procedure. Second kitty, 20 yeats old,, is at AVETS right now for an emergency. I don't know the total outcome of her diagnosis yet but what I do know is that I am very impressed with Elise (spelling) and Dr. Costello and another person who took kitty's history. They all were patient, kind, and treated me as an equal in the matter of knowing that, being kitty's mom, I knew a lot about my own cat -- how she acted and felt normally before being ill. We were all adults talking to one another and the doctor gave options, steps, and let me decide, providing me with needed info, costs, and risks. How much better can it get than having info? I'm taking kitty home, trying to make her comfy and getting meds to help her eat until after the weekend to discuss options with my own vet. The outlook may not be great but I have info needed for decision making to the next step. And every step and every procedure, cost was discussed with me. read more
