I called ahead to let them know I was coming. Waited for 30 minutes once I got there. Guy finally sat me in the stool, then went in the back for another five minutes. While he was back there, another person showed up. When he got back in the front and saw them, he told me to get up out of the chair because he had to take care of them first. I've been getting haircuts at Avenues for the last few months by Andy who's a very skilled barber and super knowledgeable about hair style, shaping, maintenance etc. Aside from getting great cuts from Andy, the shops vibes are super chill, very open and welcoming from the first time I walked in. My friend and I (we're both 13) went to Joey at the Irving Night Market for a haircut. He told us upfront it would cost $25. However, once he started, he kept stopping to check his phone and chat with people, which dragged out the process unnecessarily. During the haircut, he insulted my friend by calling him a "dumbass" just for asking for the style he wanted. Then, out of nowhere, Joey doubled the price to $50, saying the cut was "too much work," and even demanded payment before finishing. On top of that, one of his coworkers was openly drinking alcohol from a paper bag while cutting hair. The whole experience was unprofessional, disrespectful, and uncomfortable. Don't get me wrong, i got a really great haircut by Joey. This man is very talented when it comes to cutting hair. I don't really wanna make this review but i think i need to so they can change how this place treat their customer. Firstly, i called them to make an appointment, Joey answered and he booked me for 2pm. I was there 2 minutes early. Then when i walked in, 3 barbers were working saying they didn't know who took the call. Then at 2pm Joey showed up and he told everyone it was him, then he said I'll be right back. 20 mins later, we started. I was getting ready to walk out. I noticed he was drunk. He was shouting talking loud to the other barbers, Music was so loud. He leaves me for a minute doing other things and repeats it the whole process. I was really annoyed. I was gonna walk out but i really just want it to finish. The entire thing took an hour. I literally got a headache after. He kinda apologized, he said cuz it's Friday. But this is unacceptable. You are at work. You need to be professional. Period. It sucks i will never go back here cuz of my experience. They are really great barbers tho . read more

Yes, parking is a bit of a problem, but it's worth it! Very knowledgeable and easy to communicate with. Frankly, I'm impressed. Went in for a haircut with Joey. Best experience I could ask for with a barber. Right when you walk in you can tell it's all good vibes, with music playing and different conversations going on. Joey was always making sure I was comfortable, asking me if I wanted anything to drink. Moving into a new neighborhood, I needed to look for a new go-to barber. I checked out the place after gambling that whoever would cut my hair could potentially make my hair awful. I was lucky because Andy gave me precise haircuts, and even fixed up my old one. I'm no hairdresser, but I can tell that he used techniques to make your hair as good looking and clean as possible. Customer service is excellent too. Andy is flexible with time and communicates if there are any potential scheduling problems/solutions. "Barber" may be too simplistic for what this crew does. They are so much more. Stuck in your ways? Tell ANY of them how you usually like your hair cut; then ask "what adjustments would you recommend?" They will size you up and turn what you thought you liked into something you love. When you end up coming back, let them know how many compliments you've gotten on your hair ever since. The compliments WILL happen. During my first cut Joey walked me through the different ways he could cut and style my hair, and the results turned out great. Now I look forward to the conversations as much as the cut itself. my friend got a cut from Joey at the Irving Night Market here for the first time and before he sat down, they verbally told us the price was 25 dollars. Mind you we are 13 years old. While getting the cut, he is constantly stopping to be on his phone or talk to others. Mid cut, he calls my friend a "dumbass" for wanting the cut he requested, and then changes the price to 50 mid cut because of the "dumb cut" we requested and told us to give the money before he finished otherwise he wouldn't continue. He said that cuts usually only take 15-30 minutes but he's charging us double for this because it took a lot of time and effort to do. Mind you he was constantly stopping to be on his phone and talk to others, and we showed him the cut n explicitly said this was what we wanted. His colleague was also drinking alcohol out of a brown paper bag while cutting. Joey is super unprofessional and disrespectful to his clients, would never even think of coming again. read more

Love this place. I met Andy who I really liked. First, local dude who grew up in SF with part of his childhood within a mile of this location, so truly local. Cool dude. I didn't talk to the others much, but I liked the vibe. I only came in to groom my brows. I'm at an age where all of sudden they grew like crazy. I look like a sifu out of a Kungfu movie. I've never groomed them before, so I was a little nervous (worried I'd look a little weird or worse, they'd accidentally get shaved off). He was really cool and even cleaned up my ear hairs (again, at that age). I'd definitely come back here. But, I shave my own head every two weeks, so it would be a little pricey for something I can do myself. But, really liked the peeps and vibe. Wish them much luck and success. Overall, 5 star rating but it's based on my limited experience (brows). read more

So, before my review gotta reveal for the first time in years I've had a few people compliment me on my hair cut. Now that hasn't happened in a very long time. My hair is a curly bushy mess and is complex to cut. Went in last week, first visit at the recommendation of a friend. Arrived early, and while my barber had yet to arrive, his colleague invited me in, offered beverages and a seat. Salon is clean, bright and pretty darn welcoming. It's very modern, clean, great barber chairs, loads of room between chairs and the place has a great "no-attitude" but fun vibe. Joey was (and will be) my barber. Essentially, this guy is an artisan barber. He's a pro with a clippers. He listened carefully and then gave me a great cut. Took his time, was very engaging but seriously focused on styling/cutting, etc. I'm not a huge reviewer on Yelp, but this place deserves a shout out. It's rare to have a first knockout cut, so I really appreciate having this new Barbers in the hood. read more

As others have noted, the barbers are talented but not very dependable. The last two appointments both barbers didn't show up for my appointment. In the first instance, the barber texted and moved the time later in the day and was a no show. The last time my appointment was moved to the next day by the barber, but he was a no show. Luckily, I was given a cut by an available barber. In both instances I was given no reason for their absence or an apology. Very unprofessional business. I wish them the best and hope they realize this behavior will sabotage their business. read more
