I couldn't resist a quick look at the cellophane wrapped packages of excellent quality pasta and rice in a range of spelt, polenta and gluten free pastas as well as the normal shapes and sizes. They also stocked a wide variety of Tracklements condiments - delicious hand made products from Wiltshire in the UK, such as organic mint jelly, onion marmalade and horseradish cream - only the finest quality ingredients are used, most of which are grown on the farm in which they're based. In addition, this would be a great place to pick up Toby's Estate Coffee beans, cruskits, crackers, biscuits, dried porcini, anchovy fillets, vinegars, pastes, vinaigrettes and oils. It is also very much worth noting that Deli Cucina stock an impressive range of Maxims de Paris chocolate hampers. These would make a fabulous Christmas or birthday present - groaning with tuiles, truffles, pralines and a number of other chocolaty delicacies. It's family owned and has been for a couple of generations by the Raineri's. It's an established amazing deli. The place is crowded, bustling and filled to the brim with imports from Italy and local Italian products. On the tour we were treated to platters of olives, salami, prosciutto, chicken, octopus, cheeses, bread and olive oil. They even made a pasta right at the counter using their very own homemade lemon pasta,with a bit of cheese, parsley and olive oil. Now I don't know that much about Italian antipasto, although I like to think Bay Cities in Santa Monica is the southern California authority, but I can safely say Raineri's blows Bay Cities out of the water. Their prosciutto melted in my mouth, I have never had anything even close to it in the States. Jim's Deli is a little pricey, but you're paying for the convenience like you do at all corner shops. I really love Mario's because it introduced me to the Coyo - Coconut Yogurt - which has to be one of the most delicious healthy treats I've ever tried (it's now a staple in my breakfast diet). You can buy tasty bananas at $7.99/kilo and a mango will cost you $2.99 which is far cheaper than the competition in the area. Mario's Market use to be called Neutral Bay Fresh Food Grocer.

Neutral Bay is my shopping hood so I found myself at Mario's Market and I love it here. The produce is really fresh and there is a touch of gourmet deli with products like Maggie Beer available. They're a bit more on the expensive side than a big supermarket but for freshness and quality it's worth it.
