Just remembered I had yelp and I feel it is my due diligence to warn people of this shop. They messed up my bridge really badly. Crooked, super thick jewelry (way thicker than needed for healing), rejected immediately. Then, against my better judgement I went in to get some new high nostril jewelry. The piercer refused to use a tool to put them in correctly and kept trying to jam the jewelry in causing lots of pain (they're fully healed). Then once she accepted she needed the tool, she put in the wrong size. A simple jewelry change was a nightmare and my high nostrils were irritated for a week. So unprofessional and atmosphere is not welcoming. I've gotten many piercings from different places and I promise you can find a safer option around here. read more

I've removed 2 stars for 2 complaints: 1. VERY long wait time.. I can understand though, there were a lot of people there and not many staff to tend to everyone. 2. Staff complaining about their job in front of customers.. this goes without explanation, I don't think bad-mouthing your boss is very professional. Bonus complaint for the construction zone in the middle of the place, with plaster all over the floor and the ceiling falling apart, it's not a very professional looking place. Other than that, I had a great experience with the piercing itself. The staff who spoke to me about the piercing I was getting was very knowledgeable and made sure I understood all of the risks of my choice of piercing. The piercer herself was very kind and did a fantastic job with the piercing and making sure I was comfortable and knew how to take care of it. This was my third time getting pierced here (after quite awhile), and the quality of the experience had definitely gone down this time. I would go again, but hopefully they get a few things under control to make the experience better. read more

The entire experience was AMAZING, every staff member was involved. My daughter and I were both pierced with the utmost professionalism. Staff provided up-front pricing, I was measured for intimate piercings, and my comfort was ensured at every step. Sage went the extra mile to ensure that my 18-year-old daughter's first time piercings were a positive experience. i had an appointment and came 15 minutes early like instructed and wasn't taken back for 50 minutes AFTER my appointment time, so I was waiting for a total of over an hour. My partner who is has had over 10 piercings for years came home last night sobbing and bleeding from her ear. After telling the tech not to go a size bigger because her ears are not stretchy, the tech forced the larger size into her ear and ripped her lobe open. She then forced my partner to buy the larger jewelry and said "your ear is just irritated, take some ibuprofen" her lobe was completely ripped open. Do not go to this place unless you want to get assaulted and ruin your lobes. I'll be telling everyone I know never to go here. Shameful business practices. read more

They do not list the appropriate prices on their jewelry. They have advertised $26 for a nose ring and then they charge you $31 and an additional $17 as they claimed that the price is for 2 separate pieces which I have never heard a day in my life. They literally charge you for the post that comes as one piece on the earring but because it's an interchangeable piece lol... okay I literally could have purchased my daughters nose ring from Spencer's and pay $20. It would be a different story if they told you that the price advertised was incorrect and the price that your paying is for the top part only and not for the bottom piece of the earring but they don't do that. Then they charge you $8 dollars for them using their medical supplies that should be all built into your price, $109 dollars later. Save yourself the trouble and go to a tattoo shop and spend $50 all in, no hacks or gimmicks to their prices. The only reason we came was because the tattoo shop could not pierce her because I didn't have her birth certificate. I went to Avant-Garde for some nipple piercings. Very impressed with everything about this place. The receptionist spent nearly 15 minutes helping me find jewelry that wouldn't irritate my nickel sensitivity but was within my budget. The piercer was super professional as well and gave clear instructions for aftercare. Everything was clean and the pain from the piercings was pretty minimal. Both piercings healed well and without any complications. I'll definitely go back for future piercings. read more

I guess we look to conservative to have people treat us decent here. Watched the lady fiddle around for 45 minutes before she called us back. I made 2 appointments. 5:15&5:45 because last time I was told 2 different piercings need 2 appointments. Was there at 5, finally called back at 5:50. I'm done here. 4th time and worse each time. Went back today to get the jewelry changed and the staff (actually, the same person who pierced me originally) was rude and condescending with each question I asked, and was quite belittling about the jewelry I purchased elsewhere. Copied this from google and placed here so everyone can see: I just visited this shop less than three weeks ago for new piercing and a jewelry change. The jewelry that was in my helix prior had been there for 5 years no issues. They do the jewelry change, I paid $400 for this piece of jewelry, and three weeks later it falls out. I do not touch my piercing pull twist etc. I call today to ask if they will replace the backing and re-insert my jewelry, they said I would need to pay for these services and the new backing. I told them that this service was just performed and I've never had helix jewelry just fall out. The lady on the phone was extremely rude and says that hers fall out all the time. I am not sure if this is just overall staff incompetence, but I have never had a piece of jewelry just fall out like that and neither has anyone I know. In fact, the jewelry is usually so secure (as is the case before they changed it), that I need to go in professionally to get it changed out and cannot just pull it apart at home. In addition they did not even look up the service, service date, type of jewelry etc to even see if what could be going on in my case. I called another piercer who I have seen and trust and unfortunately they could not insert since they only reinsert from APP certified shops. They told me that the earring falling out from daily tasks is not a common case and that the shop should have looked at why it fell out so soon. Consulting another shop they also said that it should not have fallen out easily based on the type of earring (neometal) and back (threadless) and that it likely wasn't bent far enough when placed. They said the chance of jewelry just falling out does not normally happen and that the usual case is from someone pulling the ends apart, which again I did not do as I just paid a lot of money for this earring. I wish I could write a positive review as I have gotten all my piercings here and have constantly referred numerous people to this shop but unfortunately it seems things have really gone down hill. We had an appointment at 2pm for our three month old which was carefully chosen based on her nap and feeding schedule so that she wouldn't be too fussy. We had previously brought our now two year old here when she was three months old back in January of 2023 and had no issues. In fact, the piercers were so phenomenal that she barely even cried! BUT - This time around was an absolute nightmare. We waited for more than 45 minutes before being seen by the piercers. We did not even walk out of the shop until 2:54pm which is ridiculous. By this time, our daughter had fallen asleep and I knew she would wake up screaming - since I had already paid almost $100 and waited this long I was not just going to walk out. I clearly should have just reschedule because the piercers completely rushed us and I could tell they were absolutely miserable compared to our previous visit. I should add that seconds before putting the needles in her ear one of the piercers said - "Where am i putting this? Directly in the middle?" It was too late to stop what was happening as she had already pierced her ear. After that, they struggled to even get the earring twisted on which I could see caused even more issues. Unfortunately one of her earrings is now uneven and as a mom, I'm stuck feeling so guilty and upset. Like I said, we had no issues with our previous daughter and actually had a phenomenal experience this first time around. I am beyond disappointed and now contemplating what to do as our experience was horrible and I don't know if I would ever go back. read more

On 7/14/20 I messaged Brent (the owner of Avant Garde) on Facebook about my complaint but I never received a reply. I needed all of my piercings removed in preparation for an MRI. I was extremely disappointed because on 7/13/20 I had to again pay to have a piercing re-inserted that fell out the same night it was originally re-inserted (7/8/20). Obviously it wasn't tightened well enough that day or it would not have fallen out. On 7/9 I called Avant-Garde (this was the day following the night the piercing fell out). I explained the situation and asked for an appointment for re-insertion as quickly as possible. As I said, this was 7/9 but the young woman said no appointments were available until 7/13 at 230PM. She did mention the option of a walk-in but said those wait times can sometimes be excessive. I asked her if I should be concerned about the hole growing shut if I can't be seen for a re-insertion until 7/13. She said I should be fine based on the time I've had the piercing, which is at least three years. Before I was seen for my appointment on 7/13, I again mentioned that I didn't think I should have to pay for the reason cited above. Apparently the young woman I spoke with wasn't in a position to make that sort of decision so she asked a person with more authority to step in. That woman immediately said no before I could even provide details. She said they would not do a re-insertion at no charge and that I should have returned to Avant-Garde "right away." I explained that I DID call the very day after the piercing fell out and that I took the first available opening. She insisted that I should have done a walk-in [continued...] [Obviously, she has no concept of how much time a client may have to invest in a walk-in appointment; it can be quite a lengthy wait!] [...continued] and, had my piercing closed, I would have needed a re-piercing. I repeated to her that I was assured my piercing would not close due to the years I've had the piercing. She was insistent that nothing could be done in terms of what she called a "discount." FINAL RESULT? On 7/13/20 I had to pay for the following. This was nearly the same amount as I paid for the original FAULTY re-insertion on 7/8: *2nd re-insertion fee. *2nd personal protective equipment (PPE) fee. *Purchase of a new ball for the tip of the earring since the original was lost in my bedding (ON THE NIGHT IT HAD BEEN RE-INSERTED). *2nd gratuity. I was tempted not to leave a gratuity but it wasn't the fault of the piercer that I was completely disgusted with their way of doing business. She tried explaining that piercings sometimes "work their way open." I said not once did that ever happen to me in all the years I've had piercings. As a matter of fact: I tried for over an hour to remove my piercings before my MRI on 7/8 but was unable to do so. I told the MRI team that I'd have to cancel my MRI - unless they could get them out! Only by using a needle-nose pliers was a tech finally able to remove them but it took time! Maybe piercings "work their way open" for some people - but not in my case. In NO way do I blame the front-of-the-store staff for any miscommunication. They do an amazing job in an unbelievably busy establishment: Scheduling appointments, handling walk-ins, product sales, deliveries, clarifying how forms must be completed, constant telephone calls that can involve almost anything for any length of time, explaining procedures to customers, explaining store policies to customers, taking messages, etc., etc. It just never lets up. They handle it all with grace. If the owner had been courteous enough to respond to my message, I would not have posted a complaint on Yelp. I will also post on the A-G Facebook page. This place really sucks, off the bat! I came in looking to buy a septum piercing. And that was it. The lady who was not a piercer said let me get the piercer and she can regauge you. To make sure we have the right size. I ofc said alright. The piercer did what she did and took no longer than 10 secs, I went to look at the choices they had... nothing no choices. I opted with the only one in my size it was ugly but thought I would try it. I went to check out. The pricing was 28 dollars for the small thing, and then I seee on the receipt it says 16.99 for regauging ???? Are you kidding me. That was sooo upsetting. Ended paying 48 dollars for nothing! Mind you they also do a whole sheet to fill out ID and all. Like for what a fucking little piercing??? Do not go here no point! You will be spending money for nothing good. I can't say enough good things about the experience my daughter and I had at Avant Garde. We came in to get her ears and my nose pierced. She is 9 and got very nervous and emotional after we checked in for our appointment. Every single person employee was just incredible with her -- gentle, encouraging, patient and understanding. She got a little panicky when it was time to get pierced, and the piercers were totally calm, reassuring and friendly, and they talked her through the whole process perfectly. She almost backed out a few times, and the associate who was helping us with jewelry said it would be no problem to reschedule even if we had already paid. Avant Garde came highly recommended by other moms, and now I see why. It was a really wonderful experience, and I will be back if I have any piercing needs in the future! read more

We had a terrible experience here. Two other moms and I took our 3 daughters, planning to get their ears pierced. The staffer looked at our group, didn't know who was who, and didn't ask, but seemed confused. Trying to be helpful, my friend said, "we're their guardians"; she works in a school, where the term is used to include parents. Long story short, the manager told us we couldn't get our kids' ears pierced without birth certificates because that's what happens the minute someone says "guardian." He was very patronizing and called my friend "miss." They need to train their employees better to ask simple questions to determine who is who. All this could have been avoided and we wouldn't have had crying, disappointed kids. They won't be getting my business. read more

I went here to get a nose piercing without an appointment. I totally recommend booking an appointment because the wait was pretty long lol but that's what to expect when you're a walk in. They were very clean during the piercing process and it was fast and it didn't really hurt. I've had my piercing for 5 months now and I haven't had any problems with it, not even a keloid. They have a wide selection of jewelry, fake, real, etc, they have it. For real jewelry the prices vary but they are quite expensive. The first time I went the customer service was very good, the woman helping me choose the ring was very nice and helpful. I sadly can't say the same when I called last month because the person on the phone was rude. I do recommend this place uf you want a good piercing. read more

December 18th I bought (what was sold to me as a nose ring and replacement ball. They couldn't do it that day so I took the jewelry that was sold to me by Avant Garde STAFF with me. I was showing my daughter the set over the weekend and she said that the post was way to big for a nostril. When I went in today to get my piercing done, AVANT-GARDE told me the jewelry I bought was not for a nose AND they WOULD NOT exchange it or return it EVEN THOUGH THEIR STAFF sold it to me!! This was from the owner's mouth! Fuck you and your poorly trained staff and for your customer service! Piercers are a dime a dozen. read more

As soon as you get that piercing and your out that door, your not their problem anymore. Your just a transaction. we had 3 piercing appointments and got treated like crap. the piercer was great-extremely professional but their manager or chief piercer could not have been worse. he said no to my verticale industrial because I wear glasses-no further discussion to learn more. I'd ask questions and he was just getting irritated. I asked for a ufo and he literally replied with "what the f is that?" I explained and he said no cause I "couldn't handle the pain." (I've literally reset my own broken bone, pulled my own nerve block out the day after shoulder surgery and returned to work 2 days later...you don't know me, but I digress.) I asked what he'd recommend for my anatomy and he replied, "I don't do consultations." I will not contest a professional but clearly you don't need to be treated like garbage either. I hope the piercer opens her own place cause that guy was a completely useless tool. I couldn't get my other earring downsized cause they were too busy. I talked to the other group there...walk-ins. Our appointment was done 30 min late. Another customer even asked what was up with that place. Your appointment means nothing. You will learn nothing. Highly Unprofessional. DO NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE. Previously this was the only place I would recommend, but man has it changed. If I could leave zero stars I would. I went in for a fun cartilage piercing for my mom's bday(would be my 9th ear piercing, so I'd say I have some experience). The piercer talked me out of the placement that I originally wanted and pierced where she recommended. I went home and immediately disliked it. I could see the back of the piercing from the front. I went back in the next day and the piercer told me I could take it out myself and get it re pierced after a week with the same jewelry, complementary. She felt bad that she talked me into that placement. I was content with that decision and left. I then tried going back with the same jewelry I was pierced with and was told I had to PAY AGAIN?? Apparently the piercer was supposed to give me a certificate saying that I could get it re pierced complementary ?? Yeah never heard of that. What a fucking scam of a place. I got a septum piercing done 7 months ago. Before that I have gotten all my other piercings done including nostril, naval, lobes, cartilage, and tragus. All of those piercings went great besides my septum. The pain never went away and it kept causing me issues(I was taking care of it properly like all my other piercings), I then contacted a reputable piercer and I was informed that it was pierced way too low and that's what was causing my issues. After looking at the pictures I took of myself I then noticed it was too low as well. I took it out today and now have to wait 3-5 months for it to heal so I can get it done properly. read more
