Shout out to the team at Avalanche. After driving up from Houston, my husband discovered the axle nut was stripped when he went to put his front wheel back on. The techs pulled just what he needed from their "extra Fox parts" supply and saved the day.....and possibly our trip. Highly recommend them!

Caliper installed with the washers they gave me

So, I went in to the shop for brake caliper bolts and washers. The mechanic was out so they offered for me to leave it and they'd figure out what size hardware I needed when the mechanic got back. I go back later to pick up the bike and hardware - $35 for the hardware, which seems kinda high but I don't mind at all, it's Breck. $25 in labor, just to pick out bolts and washers! $63 in total for about $10 worth of hardware! $25 in labor to do the equivalent of grabbing a couple of different sizes of shoes out of the back for a customer to try on. The first time I've ever been charged labor anywhere for what amounted to basic service - as they pointed out, no installation or any amount of actual bike maintenance was done. And the cherry on top - I get back to put the calipers on and with the washers I was given, the rotor was rubbing on the top of the inside of the caliper - meaning I wasn't even given the right size washers hahaha! $25 in labor just to figure out what I need - not even install anything - and I don't get what I need. $25 for 5 minutes worth of 'work' is $300/hour... If I was charging that much, I'd at least take the time to remove the brake pads and double check that the rotor isn't rubbing on the inside caliper. Luckily I had taller washers to get the proper fit. Here's some photos/videos to prove that they gave me the wrong washers. I'm local and I've been in multiple times before and gotten great service. This is the first time I've dealt with the older guy there and last time I'll go back.

We absolutely loved this experience and will probably buy a bike after having so much fun with this activity. So about this business. They are a bike shop and you can sign up for a rental to ride a nice paved trail around the historical mining areas in Leadville. They were super nice and they provide you with a helmet, a map, and give you a quick tutorial of the bike before they send you on your way. Now before you decide to ride a bike in Leadville you definitely need to be prepared for the elevation and the up hill at times, but the views , the down hills, and history made it worth it ounce of sweat. This is a MUST DO when in Leadville. No better way to get to know this laid back mountain town.

We were so thankful to be able to rent bikes last-minute on a Saturday in early June from Cycles of…read moreLife and appreciated the friendliness of the staff and their tips on where to start the Mineral Belt Trail in order to get our biggest climb completed in the first portion of our ride. This was incredibly useful information for two non-cyclist from Texas eager to get out for a joy-ride:) They also tipped us off to a store down the street, Common Threads, to purchase a lightweight backpack to carry our phones, water, and such. I found the perfect bag there for $13 AND a souvenir Colorado tube mask/scarf/hat combo which came in super handy against the heavy winds in some parts of the trail. **I learned recently that covering your ears can help prevent ear infections by preventing pollens and such from entering--makes a lot of sense! We signed waivers, paid the $25/day bike rental fee, were provided bikes, helmets, and a map and were on our way! The rental checkout and return process was quick and easy and great memories were made:) My only suggestions for improvement relate to the opportunity to sell some small, affordable, lightweight backpacks in-store (as awesome as it is to recommend neighboring businesses!) as well as the need for some bike maintenance on the rentals. My front tire was a bit low, handle grips kept slowly spinning--wouldn't stay in place, and I had some wiggling back in forth in my seat. Some of those things didn't become apparent until we were working our way over to the trail and we didn't want to delay our trip by turning back to request those things be checked or have to retrace our route as the streets were uphill and required some work. Also, it would have been super helpful to have kickstands on the bikes as we were interested in taking photos quite often along Mineral Belt Trail and found it challenging to coordinate that without kickstands. All-in-all, I would certainly recommend Cycles of Life for bike rentals (though maybe spend some time double-checking the bike before taking off) and would gladly recommend the business to friends.

Flat-out dangerous and shockingly unprofessional -- avoid this bike rental shop at all costs…read more We reserved two kids' bikes online, thinking it would make for a quick, easy pickup. Instead, it took over 50 minutes to get them. One incompetent employee was running the show alone, and when a second college aged worker finally showed up, he immediately started helping walk-ins who came long after us. All we needed was two kids' bikes fitted appropriately, two helmets, and a bike lock. Instead, we got a slow-motion circus. The lock was forgotten entirely, which made for an interesting lunch experience. A couple with no reservation showed up, got their bikes, and were on their way with in minutes. Then a group of 15 walked in and were helped immediately--while we were still standing there trying to get one hand brake adjusted by a guy clearly more interested in eating his brunch food than helping his customers. What happened next is what makes this shop not just frustrating, but outright dangerous. We pointed out that my son's bike was making a loud squealing noise before we even left, but they dismissed it as "fine." It absolutely wasn't. The bike emitted piercing, high-pitched screeching sounds for the entire seven hours (see video). Then.....my son's entire BACK WHEEL FELL OFF mid-ride. Let that sink in: the back wheel of a kids' bike came unhinged while riding downhill. We were extremely lucky it didn't result in a serious injury. That kind of failure is inexcusable and a clear sign of negligence with zero safety protocols. Thankfully, we know a little about bikes and could safely reattach the wheel since we were 10-15 miles away from the shop. This place is a liability nightmare and a customer service disaster. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else. There are far better, safer, more competent bike rental shops all over town. This one should be avoided at all costs.
