Today, upon arrival for a noon appointment, I was told they no longer accepted my insurance. Not good. Last visit, while having my teeth cleaned, the hygienist banged (BANGED) into my head EVERY time she swiveled her chair to jot down the sounding measurements of my gums (usually there is an assistant there to do this while the hygenist calls out the numbers). She had no clue even though I KEPT SITTING LOWER and LOWER in my chair to avoid the inevitable and highly inconsiderate head bumping. SIX TIMES she banged my head. Not good. Then they informed me I'd need "deep cleaning" = 2 $600 sessions because my gums were in trouble. Not good. Today i waited 45 minutes for a cavity to be filled. I left at 45 minutes as I did not want to get a parking ticket (meter was 1hr) and thought 45 minutes was enough. ONLY ONE PERSON THERE APOLOGISED. DO NOT GO HERE. They're clearly going downhill fast.

Dr. Lu has very sensitive hands and very experienced and efficient. He tells you what needs to be fixed and what can wait. He's giving you advice based on patient's perspective. He isn't the type where he'll coerce you to overpay for treatments you really don't need or have too little of the marginal benefits to the overall health of your teeth. Also, my wife and I had been to other dentists in or near Oakland (Dragon Dental and Pacific East Dental Care) where the dentists would charge you an exorbitant price for what doesn't need to be done like deep cleaning. You always need someone like Dr. Rong Lu to give you a fair evaluation of your overall dental health. There are also other dental offices (Cheung Dental Group in Milpitas) that are 4-7 months booked in advance so the wait time is too long even the dentist is good. Even tho' I also would recommend Dr. Cheung, I think it's just hard to get to see him these days. I will give a 8.5 stars out of 5 for Dr. Rong Lu. I definitely would like to nominate this dental office for the dental office of the year in 2024!

I have a lot of dental work anxiety tbh, so I avoid it like the plague. Well, I needed a root canal, and it was so unlike what I expected. I thought it would be painful, and I also don't like needles. But I barely felt the injection, and the process was so smooth! Also, Dr. Parvez is just super warm and kind. The office is very nice and relaxing, and there is a koi pond. It was just the right vibe, and while going to the dentist will always suck, this was literally a 10/10 for what the experience could be. Fast forward to 4 years later, and one of my very old fillings popped out. I actually went to a different dentist first, and they didn't even x-ray all of my teeth -- just the one side that was obviously damaged. And it felt so rushed, and the dentist was so cold and unfriendly. Her office felt like a mill, packed with patients, unhappy-looking staff, and everything was so rushed! Anyway, after that, I literally went through the process of switching insurance to one that is accepted by Dr. Parvez. But it was so worth it! I just had my second root canal, and it was just as smooth and great as the last time. I barely felt the needle, the procedure went very smoothly, and it was such a low-anxiety experience! Also, a shout out to the front staff who were really kind and the assistant (I don't know her name, but she has dark black hair.) who also helped me feel so relaxed. Re: Saeid Malboubi - License 52426 This is my complaint to…read morethe Dental Board of California and my review of Dr. Malboubi and the Oakland Dental Implant Center on their website: I'm demanding that Dr Malboubi refund any money we have paid plus $13,860 as I have been advised that the work must be redone for the sake of my health. The dentist himself is an apparently nice and a personable man. I started seeing Malboubi in 2023. At that time, he placed 3 implants in my bottom jaw for a click-on denture. I had never experienced implants and according to him, he was the best at what he did, and I trusted him. See the Xray to see that the implants are crooked. He took the original denture I got many years ago from another dentist and without my consent he unfortunately haphazardly and carelessly tried to make it work. To securely place in my mouth I first must lean my head back semi place denture and then turn my head to the left to achieve final click. Then he stated that because he had done so much bone graft work, he had to create a workaround to fit my denture into my mouth, albeit badly. I complained about said workaround many, many times. Whatever he used to patch the bottom of the denture is sluffing off, and if I run my tongue across the back inside of the denture, I can feel my exposed implants. Every time I asked him about it, he would say, "I will fix, I will fix" He never did. Again, because he kept telling me that he teaches at the dental school and lectures young dentist learning how to place implants, I believed I was in good hands. I let the whole issue of my bottom implants go. Don't make that mistake take your proposed treatment plan for a second opinion. I went back in late 2025 and into 2026 to have a top denture made into a clip-on with implants. He had a denture made for me, a denture that is so badly made and uneven. As you can see the denture itself does not lay flat. And will never fit properly. Before this last appointment Malboubi pulled my remaining top teeth and once my gum healed, he placed two implants. The implants he placed on top are barely visible as they have sunk into my gums so they cannot be used for a click-on denture. At this time, I requested the receptionist/bookkeeper and the Doctor's wife who is also staff, for a complete accounting of my treatment and payment to date. They never denied me the paperwork but kept making excuses about why I could not have it. As it turns out, I requested it on five different occasions over 5 months with no resolve. I started to get suspicious. No one would tell me why they wouldn't give me. The last time I went to the office and sat in his chair he started by saying "why are you making my staff crazy!" He was obviously annoyed and angry that I requested the bookkeeping of my account. They claim that all patient requests for documents are available 24 hours, obviously not mine. After my last appointment Ive come to understand by getting a second and a third opinion that Malboubi has provided me with substandard care. Wait times with an appointment is anywhere from 1-3 hours. His staff told me when I complained about the wait that it was because they schedule 3 or 4 patients at a time, even though there is only one dentist. I originally went to him in 2023 because he had good reviews. VERY BAD IDEA. The other dentist laughed at me as most reviews are bought or written by friends etc. All I want from them is a complete refund of what has been paid, plus $13,860, which is stated in my original treatment plan for a new and corrected bottom click-on denture. Today, I had my first visit with Lake Merritt Dental. I will try to make this as short as I can. I am a dentist and the hygienist was arguing with me about what type of cleaning and x-rays I need. She KNEW I was a dentist and insisted that I needed a full mouth of x-rays or else I could not be seen and that I needed a deep cleaning a even though I knew regular cleaning would suffice. I'm not sure if she thought I really wasn't a dentist but she was talking to me like I did not know a single thing about dentistry. This was a sample of our conversation: She saw a white mark below one of my teeth on the x-ray. Hygienist-"oooohhhhh, that doesn't look good!!" Me-"Its condensing osteitis. It's been there for a very long time and its not harmful." Hygienist- "ohhh, you should definitely get it checked again, it doesn't look good!" Me-" I took a scan in my office and didn't see anything abnormal." Hygienist-" You should get a cbct scan. Do you know what that is?" Me-" That is what a scan is." Hygienist-(awkward silence) ok one more sample.... Hygienist- " I can't remove that piece of calculus on your tooth unless I get you numb and do a deep cleaning." Me-" Sure you can. My gums aren't sensitive so you can go to town on them if you want. It's a small piece so it won't take much." Hygienist-(awkward silence) LOL, I can't make this up. I've been in the field for more than 10 years. If you include school, 14 years. This was a mind blowing experience. It was like some kind of alternate universe in there. I ended up walking out . Most offices would feel a great sense of pride if another dentist comes to your office. It really means a lot. It means that even your fellow colleagues trust you. Unfortunately, this was not the case. I was planning on leaving a negative review but I understand every office has its bad days. Its tough to satisfy every single patient. So I forgive you Lake Merritt Dental. I know 5 star reviews feel great so here ya go. Just make sure you tell Alma that I was really a dentist next time you see her. And Dr. Huang, I don't think she believed me either lol.

Surely…read moreenough, my visit (1/29 Wednesday morning) of getting the deep cleaning and one filling on my left side of teeth brought me a long lasting purple bruise and pain on my left side of cheek. I am still in pain and traumatized to this moment writing the review. Unfortunately, I might have to find a new dental clinic, which I hate to do. Dental work always terrifies me especially when the anesthesia shot(s) required. This awful experience proves me right that anesthesia shots are not as safe as people claim to be. I had a terrible experience with a San Francisco dentist who showed no emotion when I was shedding tears when his ultrasonic cleaning hurt my teeth. I was scared to go to the dentist for a year and a half after that, but this visit made all my fears from that visit go away. She was incredibly gentle, community oriented, and has seen many people in the neighboorhood grow up from when they were kids! It reminded me a lot of my family doctor back home. I also LOVE how she does not over-prescribe and is honest about what work needs to be done. The SF doctor I visited said I needed: 3 cavities filled, 2 wisdom teeth removals, and Invisalign or a mouth guard because I was grinding my teeth at night and showing wear. Dr. Thai said that the cavities can be handled when convenient because they weren't that bad (didn't show up on x-ray), my wisdom teeth won't need to be extracted because they're not showing any negative impact to my overall health, and Invisalign would be a nice-to-have if I wanted to fix the grinding. I left her office feeling like the last doctor was 100% trying to make money out of me, while Dr. Thai is 100% not. Just through that gesture, she immediately gained my trust. I have Metlife, and everything was super easy! Filled out some paperwork, got my teeth cleaned, and didn't have to schedule anything right after or pay when I left! Just walked out happy and looking forward to going again, which is more than I can ask for!
