Better up those stars to a 5! I was traveling from Wenatchee to Portland when my car suddenly started running rough and the warning lights lit up like Christmas trees a few miles outside of Toppenish. I was able to limp back to the Autozone store which was conveniently located at the edge of town I was on. Oscar patiently listened to my story and offered to help me through my dilemma. Having some mechanical experience myself I could see that Oscar's direction was genuine and we proceeded to replace a couple of parts. The parts helped but, there was more to the car troubles than what we could do at the store. I ended up getting a motel for the night and a tow home the next day but, Oscar was calm and focused through the hour or two I was there, looking into all the possibilities he could think of. My car battery died and I called both O'Reily's and Autozone in Toppenish to compare prices for a new car battery (I have a Camery Toyota). Both had starting prices at $127 before tax with a 2 year warranty, but Autozone also offers a free battery test plus installation - as long as it's only nuts and bolt and doesn't require any fancy equipment. I went with Autozone not only because of these extra free services, but also due to their friendly voices and willingness to help over the phone. When I arrived at the store, Juan (store manager) and Alvaro were very nice and they were able to ring me up and replace my car battery in less than 20 min! Coolest store on the block! The store staff are eager to help each customer even going out of their way to jump start a customers car. I went into the autozone to pickup a cleaner for my dashboard. While there as I was checking out I spotted a rechargeable flashlight on the rack. There were two, one was black the other silver. Both were placed under a 19.99 price tag. I grabbed the silver one and checked out. I paid but then did the math in my head and it seemed like it came out more than i expected. I checked my receipt and the item showed up as $34.99. I asked the cashier who helped me why it was higher than the tag said. She explained customers will sometimes place items incorrectly on the racks. I understand this as I have worked in retail myself. She asked if I wanted to return it and I explained that I did because it's not what I was thinking it would cost. I then asked her if the black one still on the rack was $19.99 since one was a 300lumina and the other 500lumina. She scanned and it too came out to $34.99. I asked why that too was on the wrong tag. I took a picture of the tags and they were both from the Sure Bilt company and had the 300 and 500 lumina on the tag. This to me seems more like an employee error rather than a customer one and expressed that. She told me rudely if I wanted to return it or not. I said "yes but can I speak to a manager". She said yeah when he freed up. He has two registers over. She asked me for my phone number and I honestly at this point didn't feel like providing it. Seeing as I hadn't left the store, she helped me, I have a receipt and she never even asked if I was a member at ring up, which I am. I said I didn't want to provide one and wanted my money back, i paid in cash. She said "well I can't return it then". I said "why not? You know I bought it here seconds ago". At that time I got upset and the manager came over. Didn't introduce himself or anything and took here side and just kept repeating what she said. Never tried to fix the situation or calm down the situation and only upset me more. I got a bit angry said I couldn't understand why it was so difficult to return and that it wasn't my fault that items was misplaced. He just took no responsibility. They told me to come back tomorrow and talk to the store manager and deal with him. I said fine grabbed my receipt and walked out. I left the store but after a few minutes I couldn't understand why with my receipt I can't return something and I went back. When I walked back into the store they had hung the black flashlight that I had asked her to scan and that I told her was hanging on the wrong tag back under the same tag. I doubt a customer came over took it off the counter and placed it there in error. I knew that after I left rather than find the appropriate tag or proper location that they just put it back under the $19.99 tag. I find this extremely unprofessional and while customers are responsible to make sure they pay the appropriate price for their items I also find it's the responsibility of staff to make sure it's in the right place especially after someone had just called attention to that exact issue and product. I talked to a different gentlemen and he was going to return it but once they asked for phone numbers and names and last names and personal info which I will not provide to someone when in these days I know not how they will use that info. I chose to not and told them I have a receipt and I was there so couldn't understand why it was so difficult. I have shopped at auto zone for years and most places are polite people but this store is not. It upsets me because this is in my hometown where population is latino and many are non english speakers and they don't know how to stand up for themselves. I feel like this place is taking advantage of it's customers or take no pride in their store. This issue may never be resolved but I wish someone would look into it. Being honest I will not go speak to the store manager as I am leaving tonight back to where I live and that's 3 hours away and will not have an opportunity to. I will most likely try and returning this at my local store where I don't get treated so disrespectfully. This whole situation makes me sad because people have stopped caring about service and more interested in making sales goals. read more
