Every time I step into this autozone it seems to be the only place with great customer service. Today I was helped out by a super sweet woman who helped me find the headlights I needed and even found them for good price for what I was looking for. She asked her coworker I think his name was Jonathan to help me put em in my car (it was a struggle to take the lid off) and he found that I didn't even need them ! They just weren't plugged in( silly mechanics) so he helped me plug them in and even left the lid in a place where next time I could easily replace the lights myself. Thank you so much guys! I was immediately greeted and welcomed by the front desk/cashier gentleman, which was nice. However, I needed a OBD-II scanner and I had to ask the young guy behind the counter where they were. He pointed to a shelf right behind him. He did not ask me if I wanted to see one and compare prices, he simply pointed and went back to doing stock and ignored me. My car battery had to be jumped, drove straight to this autozone to purchase a new car battery. However the staff refused to help install the battery or let me use a screwdriver to install it myself, with no explanation of why, despite explaining that I just had to have mine jumped. Then suggested I take the $220 battery to a mechanic to have it installed for additional expense. I've previously had good experiences at other autozones, but will not be returning to this location. read more

My brakes needed to be replaced when I went to a "business" located at 21750 Main Steet in Matteson, Ilinois. A man who identified himself as Derrick said he could perform the work for 400.00. He told me he would purchase the brakes and rotors under his business license and that I would get a lifetime warranty for the pads and a two-year warranty for the rotors. I asked him if AutoZone would honor the warranty if it was not in my name and he said a number on the receipt that was associated with his business would allow me to access the warranty with or without him. After the brake job was completed, I went to AutoZone to confirm what I was told was true. Amanda, the store manager told me they did not have a business account under the name listed on the invoice. However, I heard Amanda via speakerphone talking to the Derrick when the parts were ordered. Their conversation was very personal and familiar. Therefore, I know she knew who this person was. She also told me he may have not even made the purchase at that store. I told her I knew he did because I was in the car. Before I left the store, I asked Amanda if there was anything she could do to get the warranty in my name. She told me there was absolutely nothing that could be done. I picked up Derrick and took him back to AutoZone. When we arrived, one of the store employees was standing outside smoking a cigarette. He and Derrick did not speak but they both went inside the store and walked straight to the cash register. Derrick started explaining the situation to the employee and then asked him to confirm that I could indeed use the warranty without him being present. The employee said no, she cannot. After a lot of back and forth I asked what could be done. The employee said he could do a return and re-sale the items under my name. When he printed out the return, I found out the purchase was made under "Car King Auto" and not "Destiny Auto& Battery". Once that was done, I was given 244.18. I gave Derrick $310.00 to pay for the brakes and rotors because he said the cost was 309.00. No one could explain why I was only given 244.18 instead of 310.00. The manager never assisted or advised on this return; which I find peculiar seeing as she was the one who told me there was nothing that could be done to get the warranty in my name. I ended up not being given an explanation as to why I was given 244.18 instead of 310.00 and also paying an additional $108.97. After I'd paid, I was asked if I wanted a paper receipt or both email and paper receipt. The employee asked me if my name was spelled correctly and I said no. He reached around the monitor and pressed the cancel button and handed me a printed receipt. Because I was well aware that my name was spelled incorrectly, I asked if I would be getting an email receipt and he said no, I messed up your name and I don't know how to fix it. I demanded an email receipt, and it took over 45 minutes to get an email that still was not the one I should have gotten. I am not sure what happened with this entire situation, but I believe the staff at AutoZone was in cahoots with this unscrupulous mechanic and somehow, they all profited off my ignorance. I bought a battery from a different store less than a year ago and returned from a trip to a car that wouldn't start. I had roadside assistance come give me a jump and after testing this battery, i was told it needed to be replaced. I drove to this store (closest to my house) and explained the situation to the clerk, who was very nonchalant and seemed like he didn't care much about the information i was giving. He came out to test my battery and said it could be replaced since i still was under warranty. Roadside assistance mentioned the battery was too small for my car and i gave this information to the clerk and all he did was tell me "we can only replace the battery for the exact one that you have, if you want to upgrade, you will have to pay the difference". For context, I'm a young woman that knows little to nothing about batteries and was asking him if the size of the battery had anything to do with me having troubles with my car starting but he kept repeating the above statement. I finally gave up and just asked for the replacement. After clicking around in the computer, he told me they can replace the battery but couldn't install it because they only install batteries as a courtesy when you buy a new one. I went back and forth with him because that didn't make any sense and clearly didn't have anyone at the store with me to help replace it. He suggested i do it myself and i let him know AGAIN i didn't know how to do that. After a while, i told him i would just take the battery somewhere and have someone else put it in. THEN he says i would need to give the old one back before taking the new one. I asked him how was i supposed to get my battery replaced and how i was concerned it wouldn't even start again for me to leave the start. A short lady came over and started repeating the same thing saying i could "purchase a new battery, leave and have it installed then return to the store to return the old battery and get a refund for the battery i bought." That was an absolutely ridiculous statement and i asked them multiple times if they even thought what they were telling me made sense. They had no desire to help me in any capacity and if i didn't know any better, i would think it would have something to do with my race (black). I was never at any point rude to them as i was in distress and only trying to get my batter replaced. I was being treated as if it was my fault that this company sold me a faulty battery. it would have taken them maybe 5 min to replace but instead of having empathy and helping a customer out, they withheld information upfront and argued with me until i got fed up and walked out. If it were their friends, family or neighbors , i know for a fact they would have done it with no issue. This store is horrendous and there are horrendous people working in it. read more

I walked in, the guy was on his personal phone, i asked him your quick i just want to buy and go, canu get me this bulb quick? , he tells me its model number blah blah blah..i was telling my nephew wdf i could of just did that myself. I really wanted him to get it 4 me. I left mad. This store, more specifically, the sales associate who helped me, singlehandedly restored my faith in that little lost art form that was once known as Customer Service!! Wow, WoW, WOW!! My dilemma was this: After leaving my hazards on for over 3 hrs a few weeks back, my car's battery went dead (big surprise, I know.). I jumped it that night and it was fine for the next two weeks. The other morning, I go to start it up and nada, nothing, zip. I jump it thinking it was just an anomaly and shut it off about an hour later, go to start it and again, dead. Now I need to get to a place to see if it's the battery or the alternator. I had some scheduled visits down south for work and knew there were a slew of places on Western Ave that could accommodate. I was really looking for an NTB but not seeing any found a local shop and stop in. They didn't have any battery's for sale but could test my battery to see if it was a loss or just needed re-charging. Result, need a new battery. That'll be $10 for the test that took 12 seconds. Fine. Not knowing the area too well, I ask where I can purchase a battery; the gentlemen sends me to an Autozone on 22nd/Western. Praise Jesus, Bless that man as I've not had a genuine, honest to goodness Customer Service experience in god knows how long and the one I was about to encounter was sheer genius. So I step in to the Autozone and immediately Brilliant Sales Associate of the Year (or BSAY as he will be called from here fwd) asks if he can help me w anything. Explain my case and he's like, i'll pull your battery for you and give it a test to see if we can just recharge it. Cost? Zero dollars. Even if after the test they actually do recharge it....Cost? Zero dollars. BSAY goes out, takes battery from car, puts it on machine and result? Need new battery. Directs me to the choices and I choose the best one available. Who wouldn't, come on now. BSAY goes back out, new battery in hand, PUTS THE NEW BATTERY BACK IN FOR ME, puts back on all nuts and bolts for the battery guard, puts on this product which will prevent any acidic corrosion or build-up on the red and black connectors, (they don't have to do any of this, but this guy, this guy did b/c he's just that brill) all the while I banter w him about the nuances and intricacies of car batteries...he was a wealth of information and posited that it really *isn't* a good idea to leave your hazards on for over 3 hrs, apparantly it's bad for your battery, ha. Furthermore, that once you "drain" a car battery, it loses a great deal of overall life expectancy (yes, we're still talking shop here, not human life). All said, it doesn't sound like much and maybe you're thinking, jaysus dude, he changed your battery, he didn't cure you of cancer, big deal. Well, if you go and check out my review of Mid City Nissan, where I am currently leasing my car from, you'll know exactly why I feel this way. Take this Autozone experience and do the 180 degree, exact opposite and you have my encounters with the hole that is Mid City Nissan. Abhorrent and repugnant in every aspect that place. We pulled in with our battery barely holding a charge, half expecting that we'd need to pick up a new one. The sales associate wheeled the battery testing cart out and tested it - says all it needed was a charging. SHE took it out of the car (even dealing with a rusted battery latch bolt) and hooked it up to the charger - despite my frequent insisting that I could do the hauling around. While we were waiting in the store, the employees would dutifully clean up strewn items when customers weren't around. Several were singing to the upbeat music playing over the intercoms. I haven't seen this such positive employee chemistry in a long time! After the battery was done charging, she again refused to let me carry the battery back to the car, and even installed it back into the engine bay. I felt a little better having held a flashlight for her that we happened to have in the car. Of course, AutoZone doesn't charge for this service. But I can't thank the staff enough. I've always been a frequent AutoZone shopper; I may now be a lifetime customer. Thank you! read more

I've had to file fraud charges against autozone. Do not order online from these guys. They do not accept online orders at all stores and when you are sent to another store the price gets increased. My $78 order became $117.40. I have called customer service, the regional office, the store, visited the store, filed a complaint with the better business bureau. Now, not only will they not return my money, they refuse to give me the parts. I have no choice but to file fraud charges against them and proceed with legal action. 9/13/11 Follow Up: I was to receive a returned call today with an answer on my refund, which I had already told "nothing could be done to help me" Did not receive a call as promised and all calls to regional office went straight to voicemail. A call to the manager at 4100 S Archer resulted in me being told "no you can't have the parts, No you can't have a refund, and you must deal with corporate only" My bank has accepted the fraud charges, and will be acting on this soon. read more

I am from out of state and my battery had died in my car while I was parked in a parking garage and of course I have no idea where to go in this city for auto service. I went to this AutoZone and they tested my battery to see if it was bad then they ran a diagnostic test to see if there was anything else wrong. Once they figured out I had a bad battery they hooked me up with a new one and worked on replacing it for me. A lady, who I am assuming is a manager, helped a younger employee replace my battery and they did an excellent job. They were very helpful and the whole process went very smoothly. I will definitely be returning to this AutoZone if I ever need anything for my car. read more

Unfortunately, my experience at this location was quite the opposite of the other reviewers here. I came here for their free engine diagnostic. One service rep went outside to check another customer's engine, and told me he'd be right with me after checking that customer's. He never returned, while I waited outside for approximately 20-25 minutes. Getting fed up, especially as another service rep came outside to check someone else's car, I went back inside. After I saw the employee finishing speaking with the second customer who had his engine checked, she called up the next person in line. At this point, I complained that I had been waiting for more than 20 minutes, while 6 or 7 other customers got attention. The store manager told me that they needed to help everyone else in line first (despite the fact that line would never disappear, as new customers came in). I told him that I expected some sort of service, despite the fact that I wasn't paying for anything. He told me that I could go to another store if I wanted. I'd hate to imagine that this had anything to do with the fact that I didn't look or sound like anyone else in the store, but the situation was so preposterous that I'm still boiling with anger. At the very least, I expected some sort of apology for the wait, or an explanation of how much longer I needed to wait. Nope. Just go to another store. I called the district and regional managers to complain before I left, filed a complaint online, and am now filing this review. Perhaps they've lost their touch in the last two years and need some serious customer service re-training. Do NOT frequent this store until that training occurs. read more

I went here on 2 occasions in the past week and they went above and beyond what I thought an auto parts store was supposed to do. I went Christmas Eve for a new battery because my car was not starting properly. They sold me the battery and one of the employees went outside in the single digit weather and changed it for me. It was not something simple. He had o remove a bunch of screws to remove another part blocking the battery form being removed. I would not have been comfortable doing it. I went there again today to get a wiper blade for my dad's car and once again one of the employees asked me if he could put it on for me. I went in waited my turn to get a battery tested only to be told to go wait in my vehicle someone would be out when customers in the store were take care of ok no problem but after waiting for 20 minutes and have to go back in waited my turn again and asking the same question being told the same answer. Wait more customer came in during the time I was waiting are you kidding me. This place is horrible. Went over to O'Riley's on Cermak and Rockwell waited my turn, asked the same question and service person walked out with me tested the battery wow it took total time less than 10 minutes. Ok, I'm a gal who can barely open the hood of her car - not something I'm proud of, it's just the way it is, and my 2001 VW Cabrio's battery was on it's way out. I was about to bring it to my dealer - as there were other issues that needed attending, but the thought of them charging me 3x's what other places would was making me crazy. So I jumped on Yelp . Here I saw the 2 reviews for Auto Zone on Western & Cermak... read them 1st! I get there right as our 3rd snow storm of the season is rolling in - in Dec. no less ;-( Luis greets me (when does that happen at an auto parts store?!) and asks if there's anything he can help me with. "Ha! I say, why yes..." Then I explain my battery problem, and that I understand that they are willing to check it before replacing it to see if it only need to be charged (something else I learned from the reviews). Which he proceeds to do... in the pre-snow storm in the parking lot!. Then I mention the headlamp that was out, the windshield wiper fluid is out, and the bad wiper blades. He changes ALL of them - happily! Then as the finale, I told him that unfortunately, I still needed to go to the dealer as my check engine light just lit up a few days prior. He runs a diagnostic for me!!!!! No charge to boot! (That alone cost $75 at an unnamed dealer - One I won't EVER go back to I may add... has some bloke w/ an accent as it's spokesman and has 'barn' in it's name ;-) All this at an auto parts store! I drove home in the storm and could actually see out of my windshield, won't be pulled over for a missing headlight, and when I leave for work tomorrow morning when it's still dark, I know my car will start! And when I DO visit the dealer - -the 'City' one not the 'Barn' one, I'll now if they're making stuff up regarding the check engine light - I have the diagnostic print out to back me up... My car battery had died on my way taking my kids to school, a neighbor was gracious enough to give me a "jump". After getting them to school I called around to get a good price on a new battery. This store gave the best price, so I drove to the store, (parked out front) bought the battery ($148.57) then left. When I got to my car it wouldn't start. An employee was nearby so I asked if they could jump my car. He said no and went into the store. I then called my father and he said he would come help me. Meanwhile I decided I would get my money back for the battery since no one could help me inside. As the employee was processing my refund, I told him there was no way a manager would let that much money walk out the store, at the same time I noticed the manager was 2 registers over totally ignoring the situation, the employee stated that they were "Too Busy", there were 3 customers in the store counting myself. They weren't too busy to take my $148.57!! He gave me my money back and I waited in front of the store with my hood up until my father came and jumped my car, (15 mins later) we then drove 3 blocks west and bought a battery from O'Reilly's Auto Parts. It was one of the WORST customer service disasters I have EVER experienced. If my father wasn't available I'm SURE I would've been stranded in front of the store for god knows how long. This would have gotten -10 star but I HAD too give it one star to post. read more

They tried to scam us. We left our car lights on and the battery died, so we took it to this AutoZone location for a recharge. We dropped off the battery in the evening and came back the next day to pick it up. The next morning, the attendant said he was only able to charge it a little because the battery was bad and we needed to buy a new one. We took the battery to O'Reilly Auto Parts on Cermak instead, where they told us the battery was fine and gave it a full charge. Shady. read more

If you don't know anything about cars (like me), these mechanics will squeeze as much money out of you as possible! Luckily, the AutoZone guys here are here to help! My car's headlights were dead, so came here to get a replacement. The autozone fella helped me find the right bulb and taught me how to install it. I also purchased a new set of windshield wipers since mine was all screwed up from the last winter. He also helped me install the windshield wipers and gave me some tips on how to take care of them. I was very surprised and satisfied with the service I received that day! :) read more

Not only did they help me pick out the right tail light bulb, but also helped me install it! AND they saw that the check engine light was on and helped me diagnose the problem - turned out to be a tubing disconnect issue and they just fixed it on the spot!
