Let me be clear: AutoService1 at 2844 N Kedzie Ave in Chicago is not to be trusted. On March 20, 2025, I brought my 2017 Chevy Trax in for what should've been a routine repair. Instead, I was slapped with a nearly $3,000 estimate for so-called "urgent" repairs--one of which was a supposed turbocharger issue. I knew something was off, so I took my car to two certified mechanics elsewhere. The real cost of necessary repairs? Around $700. That's not a small oversight--that's a blatant attempt to take advantage of a customer. This isn't about bad service. This is about dishonesty and predatory business practices. They were banking on me not knowing better. But I did my homework. And now I'm warning others: don't let them do this to you. There was no transparency, no proper explanation of the costs, and zero accountability. I've already filed a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau. And now I'm here making sure no one else gets played. AutoService1 - Kedzie is not where you take your car if you care about integrity, fair pricing, or being treated with respect. Go somewhere else. I first want to say that as a rule I'm not a fan of writing reviews as I tend to be too busy living my life, but in this case I decided to break my own rule. My check engine light had been on for weeks, but I had procrastinated on taking my car in until two days before I was leaving town for a ten day work trip. I took my car in on a Friday afternoon ( I was leaving on Sunday ). I was there while they did the diagnostics test and saw for myself what I sort of already knew. There were definitely a few issues. I had to leave town for work, but they kept a regular correspondence regarding cost on the original issues as well as some additional requests of mine. They fixed my car, took it in for an emissions test that I was due for, and then held on to it while I was out of town. When I picked it up it drove better than it has in quite some time, and the cost was reasonable. Hermon and the rest of the team went above and beyond. Hopefully, I won't have a reason to return too soon, but as soon as something comes up I'll take my car back to Auto Service 1. read more

Iv'e revisited this location a few times now and they always take care of me. My friend recommended them after bringing in a few different vehicles there over the past decade when it was Tico's. They looked at my van that I brought in with what I thought was a brake issue. They talked me out of spending money on the problem and to wait a little while. Unprompted from a conversation we had at the counter they did research on additional parts that could improve my cars performance for what I use it for and gave me the free advice. With a mini van passing 100000 miles I know I will need a reliable mechanic moving forward. Chicago is rough on cars! A few months later I returned with a check engine light issue and they recommended a few repairs and they came up with a reasonable quote. I dont think padded anything or asked me to replace anything I didnt need. Email and phone/text service was good too. Just honest hard working people here I think! I will be back. Used to be called Tico's. New name now. Needed a simple alignment done and they did it, or attempted to. When I picked-up the car, the steering wheel was off by 20 degrees. Wheels were at the correct camber, however. This shows they don't know what they're doing anymore. I took the car somewhere else to have the alignment corrected. There's no point of forcing them to "fix it" if they couldn't get it done right the 1st time. They're probably good at other things, like changing oil and flat tires. Just don't say you can do alignments when you can't. read more

I've taken my car to this place a few times. They always clean it when they return it to you which is amazing. The service has always been polite, on time and accurate. They will not respond via email though so you must call. Also, last time I was there I told them about an issue with my wheel and they said it's been fixed but it's not. My husband's family has lived in the neighborhood for decades. So, when we moved to Logan we asked who their mechanic was. The only time we do dealerships is for recalls or warranty repairs. We've been in the area for over 4 years and it's also our go to mechanic. They are always nice when I stop in or call. We've only needed minor stuff, mostly oil changes, and have never been let down. Twice now, they've gone the extra mile and I won't forget it. First, I bought wiper blades for my car and promptly left them in trunk for months. When they noted the blades needed replacing, I told them I'd take care of it since the blades were already in the car. Picked up the car and boom, they changed them for me. It's like they picked up on my "I say I'm going to do it & will promptly forget and probably still have them in the car the next time my car rolls in." On my most recent visit, I was impressed with the new service site they use. I got a link with recommended and needed service items complete with pics. We decided what needed to be done & gave them the ok to start work. One of my signal lights was out; I had them skip it and planned to do it myself. It was a lovely surprise that they took care of it for me on the house. I think it was a mistake on their part, but I like to think they read my "why did I cheap out, I've got too much shit to do before vacation" vibe. If you're in Logandale and need your car serviced, I recommend Tico's. read more

I went in to have my back windshield replaced and they put in a piece of glass that I couldn't see clearly out of. The view was distorted when I looked through it , as if I was wearing glasses with the wrong prescription. When I went in to get it re-done , one of the workers, Ivan, tried telling me there was nothing wrong with it. I had to call over the woman who was behind the desk AND another worker to validate that it was, in fact, the wrong glass. After convincing Ivan that the glass WAS messed up, I made an appointment to bring in my car again to have the correct glass installed. I wasted $60 taking an uber to work when I left my car there for a second time only to be called 7 hours later to be told the glass they were installing was only a "little bit" better than the previous glass and that it was still a little blurry to see through. I told them to please not install the new glass that is STILL THE WRONG GLASS. I am now picking up my car and it is NOT fixed. I am requesting my money back and have not gotten an answer as to whether or not I will get it. I will never go here again. I am leaving with my car in worse condition than before all of this happened. Would give zero stars if possible. The woman , Veronica, was the only kind person, I do want to mention that. read more

Update! I was recently in need of a four wheel alignment and had the usual choice between my dealership, a chain, or a local auto body shop. In this difficult economy I decided to give my business to a local shop whom has always proved reliable in my past experiences. Now known as AutoService1, they were able to get me in next day, with a quick turnaround, provided a detailed printout of the adjustments made in the alignment, and at a much better price than my dealership advertised. The shop manager even joyfully remembered my car after a several year service gap. They also have a new website with all the services they offer, which is handy. I continue to recommend this friendly, quality, local business! read more

My wife and I brought both our car and our daughter's to them recently and they took care of all the problems-- brakes, AC, tires, AND they did not charge an arm and a leg. This place is a scam. I went in for a simple tire change, my driver side wheel had a flat but both my back tires were fine. A week later after the swap, my back left wheel started leaking air and I noticed it had the same scratch mark as the initial tire that leaked. They swapped a good tire for the flat. These guy's are bogus and complete scam artists. My wife had some major work done 13 months ago on her 2007 Pontiac G7. We come to find out that the main part that was replaced (water pump) is leaking profusely, again. When I called to see when I could bring the vehicle in for the warranty service, I was told that, "the part is definitely not under warranty, and we most likely won't warranty the labor either". After talking with the shop were the car is at now, it sounds like all ticos did was use some sort of sealing material to try and "fix" the water pump. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS read more

I came in last week in a panic since my AC on my '09 VW had a leakage. Thankfully, Mr. Salas and the team at Tico's Auto Repair saved the day! They inspected my car and showed me the damage and were sincere in telling me that they honestly wouldn't know the price range until the next day which was fine by me. I came in the next day early in the morning and received a call about two hours later with the estimate and they assured me that my car would be fixed that day which was my biggest concern. Mr. Salas waited for me after hours on a Friday evening to get my car which I thought was so nice. Now my AC works amazingly and I am very happy to have had such an efficient and worthwhile experience at Tico's Auto Repair. For your next auto repair, keep Tico's in mind! P.S. Okay so as you can tell from my pic I am a lady. So, I think that I am more in tune to how the mechanics explain things and their general attitude. But the cold hard facts are that they have bit of an attitude problem and they get upset if you ask questons. They finish the work in the time that they say but their under shot their estimate because they were just as expensive as the Honda dealership with "after market parts" as my hubby calls them. So, I wouldn't recommend them but if you don't have anywhere else to go they shouldn't screw you over too bad. They also don't have a shuttle so you can either kick it with them in their small cramped sitting area or you can hop on the blue line which is a few blocks away and go to Logan Square and have a delicious yet pricey duck omelet with goat cheese or something at Lula Cafe. Or generally walk the Milwaukee strip. read more

After my last car place went out of business, Tico's was suggested. They are a block away, which already earns a star or two. They are open by 8 am, closing time between 6-7 pm, and open on Saturday which gets another star. I've been twice in the past month or so, and each time Arthur has been honest about the pricing, and when to expect the work to be completed (another star). They even left me a newspaper the last time with a 10% coupon, which I readily used on my return visit (if you are keeping track, 5th star, baby!). read more

Great place. Lady at the front desk was professional, nice, flexible. She called me whenever there was an update. She even took the time to hunt down the radio password online for me, so all was ready to go when I returned. My car had an electrical problem including needing a new battery. The car's repairs were done in a few hours. The cost of the battery was identical to the cost at AutoZone. They charged me prorated $90/hour for labor, base price for parts, plus taxes. They are English and Spanish speaking. The place looks small from the outside but runs very deep all the way back to the alley. Everything looked clean. No appointment necessary. read more

Tico's is the nearest shop for me in the neighborhood, and I'm happy to report that they also happen to be the best auto shop that I've dealt with in the city of Chicago! I needed some serious work done on a vehicle that I was hoping to keep driving for another couple of years. I had it shopped at a couple of places that I had been to before but every estimate was steep and each place had different suggestions. I stopped into Tico's one morning on my way to work to see if I might be able to just drop it off and get one final look before making some decisions. The guy in the shop said he could call me in a couple of hours with an estimate. Sure enough, 2 hours later I got a call from Arthur and we talked through every aspect of the service needed. He quoted me prices for each piece of work and after making a call to my wife I called him back to go ahead and get the work done. Tico's quoted me the best rates by far and their work was excellent - in fact, they finished an entire overhaul THAT SAME DAY and one guy even stayed in the shop a little later so that I could pick up my car when I got home from work that night. I was really impressed with their professionalism and the speed with which they turned around a lot of work (they even put 2 guys on the car to get it done fast). Highly recommended for anyone who's looking for an honest neighborhood mechanic. read more

Tico's is a rare find! I used to live two blocks away and had a really bad experience with another larger auto-repair shop in the Logan Square area. I took a chance on Tico's. My power steering was out and instead of asking me to call for a tow or charging me for a tow, Arthur came to my house and drove my car to the shop!!! I had never heard of anything like this! On top of this, he called me back with a diagnosis within 45 minutes and my power steering was fixed by 3:30 that day! I have used Tico's three or four times since then, and each time, their service is impeccable. They call when they say they will. They are clear and up front about what needs fixing and what they would recommend, but can wait for next time. I'm not an expert on cars...but their pricing is reasonable, if not cheap. I never feel like they are taking advantage of me or giving me services that I don't really need to make a buck! I now live in Portage Park, but I still use Tico's for all of my repairs. It is totally worth a bus to a train to pick up my car when I KNOW it is in good hands! read more

Here is the quick upshot: they charged us for a new radiator, which they failed to install (!!). The car had a number of cryptic problems (in the sense that a new radiator should have fixed them) and critically overheated; needed a new engine. I've taken my car to Tico's multiple times since I moved to Chicago, and have been nothing but pleased with all the work they've done. After giving me an estimate for some repairs I needed, I called a few other places in Logan Square to compare prices, and Tico's was significantly (like $300.00) cheaper. My dad and brother are also my go-to guys for cars, and whenever I've told them about what Tico's has done, they have given their approval. Honest and helpful. My son was on the road with my ford van and had a problem during a cold snap which resulted in him and friends being stranded. I was nervous working with a local shop and being an out of town customer however my fears were never realized. I drove the trip from Mpls to Chicago and along the way placed calls around the area for other repairs shops including a ford dealership which was outrageous for price and coudnt even get the part same day. Ticos diagnosed the problem (bad fuel pump) found the part and made the repair all in one day, even on a saturday. I checked their pricing using Alldata and told them to go ahead and make the repair over the phone. When I arrived the price was as quoted and all was well. The tow charge was very low also. I am the proud owner of a 1987 Toyota truck with 380,000 miles on it and a 1986 Toyota truck with 275,000 miles on it. My wife has a 1993 Honda Accord with 180,000 miles on it. I have been driving my trucks for a living since 1994 and 2007, respectively. I have replaced or repaired nearly everything you can on an automobile during this time, and have visited every kind of auto mechanic you can imagine. Prior to relocating to Chicago, I resided in San Francisco and used the best crew there, Automotive Specialists (check their reviews). When I moved, I called a well-reviewed auto parts store and asked for a referral to a mechanic and, without hesitation, was directed to Tico's. I've been using Tico's since early 2009 and William (Tico) and Arthur have become my friends. It is difficult to express how grateful I am that I was referred to Tico's. Since my livelihood depends upon my trucks, and, as you can see, I am devoted to one particular kind, I require the utmost in competence and professionalism. Tico's has never disappointed me. Being that my trucks are fairly aged, some replacement parts can be difficult to track down. Arthur is nothing if not vigilant in his search for these parts, utilizing every available resource, including the internet, to find them, and he is also a master mechanic. William is always gracious and accomodating, no matter how busy the shop gets, and it does get extremely busy. The estimates for cost and turnaround are spot-on, and any recommended services are pertinent, without the taint of "up-selling". Communication is prompt, clear, and concise. The mechanics are earnest and dedicated. Arthur and Tico often stay beyond closing time so that customers can pick-up their vehicles well after normal work-week hours. Being open Saturdays makes them worth their weight in gold. With Tico's in my corner, I feel secure that each of my trucks, and perhaps the Honda, will someday surpass the 1,000,000 mile mark. These guys were awesome. I was having problems with the left wiper blade. It completely stopped working on a rainy/snowy day when we absolutely needed the car. I had approached some other shops who either didn't want to deal with it or wanted some insane upfront fees. These guys, even though they were swamped, took the 2 minutes to actually look at the car and offered trying the one cheap/quick option they could at the time to fix the problem. The solution? Tighten down the bolt holding the wiper blade to the wiper blade motor. Total time, about 5 minutes. It was a life saver. I went ahead and bought some wiper blades off them to try and make it more worth their while and tipped the guy $20 on top of the costs for being so prompt and up front with us. All in all it cost $60 total. The way they approached the problem and saw it as a opportunity to find a solution as opposed to finding a fee to charge the customer was awesome. It's a quality hard to find in auto repair shops now a days so I would highly recommend this shop if you are experiencing car troubles. Tico's is amazing. I had to get an entire new engine - they found me a great replacement that had 80,000 miles on it and quoted me a very reasonable price. When I took the car in to start the repairs, they told me they found me a better replacement engine with only 66,000 miles on it but they were not going to charge me any more than the original quote. The repair work was done within 4 days, and the car has never driven better. This is the second time Tico's has done great work for me. The first time I used them, they came and got my car to repair it, fixed the problem within a day, then drove the car back to my home - I had just given birth and was still in the hospital but they knew how important it was for me to have a car and the guys at Tico's offered to fix the car so that it would be ready when I was discharged from the hospital with my baby. They are also very communicative and will call you if they need to charge you anything over the quote. I can't recommend them enough. read more

Tico, Danny and the team are the best! (wish I could give them 6 stars!) I am an engineer and growing up I have always performed all work on all my vehicles myself due to my perfectionist nature creating very high expectations and standards in regards to quality and attention to detail, but now living the condo life in the city without my own garage space and tools makes that difficult. So I found Tico's 7 years ago when searching to fix an aggravating/annoying problem with an emissions evap system, and after unsuccessfully trying 3 other repair shops to permanently resolve the issue, Tico's was the only one to successfully repair it, and on the first attempt. Since then they have completed multiple repairs on several of my vehicles (and friends' vehicles) and their competence, pace, quality, integrity, reliability, and price is unbeatable; impossible to match anywhere else in the city.
