We flew in from CA and drove 12hrs home just to buy from them because of the upfront no-BS attitude and I would do it again! I rarely leave negative reviews, but our experience with AutoNation has been nothing short of unacceptable. We purchased a 2008 BMW 335xi from AutoNation in March 2026. From the day we purchased it, the vehicle has experienced continuous mechanical problems. In fact, it has spent more time back at the dealership for repairs than it has in our possession. The most disappointing part of this experience has been the way management has handled the situation. The General Manager repeatedly assured us that the issues would be resolved, yet those promises have not been kept. Instead of taking responsibility for selling a vehicle with ongoing, serious mechanical issues, we were ultimately told that "at some point you have to be an owner and take responsibility for repairing it." That is completely unacceptable after months of recurring problems that began immediately after the purchase. This is not just about repairs--it's about safety. The vehicle malfunctioned while my wife was driving on the highway, nearly causing a serious accident. It has also left her stranded on multiple occasions. No family should have to worry about whether the vehicle they just purchased from a dealership is safe to drive. We have been patient, cooperative, and have given AutoNation every opportunity to make this right. Instead, we have been met with broken promises, poor communication, and a complete lack of accountability. At this point, we have lost confidence in AutoNation's willingness to resolve this matter fairly. We will be filing complaints with the Better Business Bureau and sharing our experience with local news outlets. We are also consulting with an attorney to determine our legal options regarding this vehicle. If you are considering purchasing a used vehicle from AutoNation, I strongly encourage you to do your homework and have any vehicle independently inspected before signing any paperwork. Our experience has been financially draining, emotionally exhausting, and, most importantly, has put my wife's safety at risk. It's lengthy, and if you value good customer service as I do, you might feel as frustrated reading about my AutoNation experience as I felt living it. However, if you're interested, read on. My wife and I visited AutoNation in Albuquerque at the end of January to buy a late-model SUV. Bobby D. patiently assisted my wife, and we were pleased with their offer on our trade-in. We purchased a popular German SUV along with an extended warranty. After months of searching, my wife was finally happy. Update: Three days after our purchase, I still don't have the paperwork--no bill of sale, warranty documentation, etc. Our finance guy doesn't respond to my emails. After several reminders and a couple of phone calls, he finally emails me the documents while I'm on the line, but some are still missing. Update: After a few days, we might need to use our warranty for tire and wheel protection since one tire is leaking. I requested guidance on how the warranty works and if the repairs could be done at AutoNation. One representative said it couldn't be done there, while another said it could. On a Saturday, the service department was closed, and I was promised an appointment for Monday, but when I called, there was no record of it. I ended up taking the car to Discount Tire, which communicated with AutoNation to get the repair covered. Update: I found out that the interest rate on my financing package is 8.99%. I was initially told AutoNation would find the best rates, which were as low as 5.5% for high-credit-score borrowers. I went to a local credit union and secured a loan at three percentage points lower, saving thousands in interest. Now, I must make at least one payment on the AutoNation loan before requesting a payoff letter for refinancing. Lesson learned: don't take their financing. They make extra money on those unnecessarily high interest rates offered on their loans. Update: While enduring this process, I received an email from Bobby stating his work isn't done after the sale and he's available for follow-up. However, when I replied, I received no response because he was on vacation. I assume these emails are automated, but it shows a lack of attention to detail. Update: Throughout this ordeal, I sent numerous emails and left many voicemails, nearly all of which went unanswered. I even emailed the general manager twice with no response. As a small business owner for 40 years, I know that running a business in such a dismissive manner is a recipe for failure. Update: After my experience, reading other reviews revealed a trend: most positive reviews are from people selling cars to AutoNation, while the negatives come from buyers. Update: Today, I received a letter from AutoNation stating, "This is an informational notice only." It informed me that my credit score was just under 800 and noted that higher scores typically lead to better credit terms. Yet they offered me a rate three percentage points higher than I could get at any federal credit union in Albuquerque. Today I just found out that the situation was resolved. But again I had to call in and find out what was the status. No one called me to inform me. And It was not handled the way I was originally told it would be taken care of. I am still very disappointed and will not recommend this company to anyone ever. I have been trying to take care of my vehicle and reimbursement for months. Typical.. FYI.. I have not received any phone calls or emails and its been over a week. My financial institution still has not received a credit nor have I. The WORST dealership ever. I guess they are scraping for any money they can make on interest. I got a response for my review: My response to the response, I have been calling for over 2weeks now and NO ONE returns my calls. I'm in your system look me up and you call me. This is exactly what I'm talking about. This place of business is not accountable. Original review:They are crooks and liars. They have been holding my personal money for months. They over collected for registration fees by $730. They said they would personally refund the money to us once registration is complete. Took them 47days to complete registration and now I'm at 67days and no refund check. I have attempted to contact them several different times and still not handled. I do not usually post up reviews, but I felt it necessary in this case. I sold my 2016 vehicle to them yesterday after dealing with Nancy. She was an absolute gem! I had been trying to sell the car for a couple of months with no result. After a visit to KBB to establish the value, I started getting calls from various companies in ABQ, but she was the most persistent. Finally decided to pay a visit and the sale was made the same day. If there was anything I would have changed, it would be getting the check a bit quicker, but still happened in a little over an hour after the second visit. We live in Tucson. We wanted to buy a white used Lexus SC430 from this place. The sales guy, Fernando, told us his we had to buy airline tickets , and show him, before he would hold the car. We bought the tickets and were going to fly down and drive it back. Two days later we got an advertisement that the car was still on the market and they dropped the price! We called The sales guy to find out what was going on and he never returned our call. We canceled the tickets and lost $435. THEN he finally called the day before we were supposed to come and asked us if we were still coming! We talked to his manager and he blamed us and told us the car was sold! LIED! Nothing but excuses all the way around from both of them. It's still on the market at the dealership go look....2008 white Lexus 430 for $18,131. This was the worst customer you could ever ask for. But Tim the General Manager feels that is ok because they sold me a $5000 warranty plan and it's now my problem. The warranty plans company has bad customer service too plus conveniently the very expensive spark plugs that I was told were inspected were shot and left me stranded on the side of the road. NOT to mention I am with out a vehicle and out of $$$$$ for a LEMON! I had it for 30 days and drove less than 1,000 miles. Bad bad bad people, company, cars, and service!!! read more

But Tim the General Manager feels that is ok because they sold me a $5000 warranty plan and it's now my problem. The warranty plans company has bad customer service too plus conveniently the very expensive air shocks that I was told were fixed before they let me take it, is not covered by the plan and are leaking. Not even 66000 miles and it needs a water pump, new rack and pinion, engine mounts and who knows what else. I didn't even drive my Jeep over 4000 miles! I have made my first payment and don't even have a reliable car. Yes Tim after two weeks and no rental car you made them approve the repairs. BUT it should have never been on me to do all this! You assured me the Jeep went through AutoNations check when AutoNation bought it. That is definitely not saying too much about your mechanics ability. Or maybe you did know and wanted it off your lot bad enough to sell this to a single woman that has to travel to work while you sit at your job playing God. Shame on you!
