So I backed my car into the closed garage door Sunday night. Ugghhh! I felt very sheepish. I…read morecalled three neighbors to help me brainstorm a solution, not only how to get it open so I could get my cars out, but also how to fix the door. Two came over so I had a plan to execute the next night (when my family would be able to take the noise, etc.) The third one recommended Matt Betts of this Emerson Garage Door company. I called and left a message. The company called back the next morning, scheduled a 1:00 appointment, and Matt sized things up quickly, improving on my plan. He wanted to start then, but with a day sleeper in the home, I had to wait until evening. He blew me away when he said, "I'll come back then. And we'll get it *all* done. I've seen doors in worse condition than this." Very encouraging! Sure enough, we were on it at 7:30 PM. In just a little over 5 minutes, he had the door open. I immediately pulled the 2 cars out. Nice! Then he set to work re-bracing the inside of the door, which pulled the bulge back very nicely without having to do any pushing on it from the outside. (So no cracks or paint peeling happened!) At one point, his creativity and experience really came into play: he removed the bent "cross strut" (I don't know the technical name for it), hammered it back into shape as much as possible, then put it at the top of the door. He took that top cross strut off first of course, which was undamaged, and put it at the level where he had taken off the bent "cross strut". Wa la!! It was the work of a master, in my opinion. All within 45 minutes. Seriously. I was willing to pay any reasonable price over and above normal (given the off-hours work and his immediate response), but he didn't want to charge me more than his usual rates. I am one happy "garager"/camper! Thank you, Matt and your family-owned company! P.S. If he hadn't been able to fix it, I would have been in a tight spot, because he told me the lead time to get a complete door replacement is 12-18 months. Sobering... Keith

I emailed pictures to the vendor and they were promptly able to diagnose what was wrong (broken spring) and sent me a quote. **I guess I should not have ignored performance issues for so long - I thought it was normal** They worked with my schedule and was communicative when the appointment needed an adjustment. I did not get a 2nd estimate - something about this told me the price was fair for parts and labor. I also liked the small business aspect of the company. Matt was FAST and professional. He went straight to work and was done in under an hour. I highly recommended this company for your repairs and my door is in better condition than when I bought the house.

After hearing…read moreabout all the problems people encountered on bad jobs we were paranoid about choosing a contractor. We decided to go with Independence because they specialized in handicapped remodeling. We met with Mike to go over our project, got a quote, and set a start date. His crew arrived on time and were courteous and efficient. When a few project hitches came up (which they almost always do) they were resolved to our complete satisfaction. Independence charged a fair price, honored their quote, started on time, did an excellent job, finished on time and cleaned up after themselves. What more could a customer ask for? I would recommend them without hesitation.

We chose Independence because it looked like they had experience with handicapped situations, grab bars etc.; and because they did all their work with one small team - concrete removal, tile, plumbing, electrical. The results were great! Obviously experienced; gave helpful ideas on improving our design, and they let us make the choices we wanted. We've been in hotels where the roll-in shower doesn't keep the water back. This one's great. We didn't think we could widen the door, but they were able to move the electrical work, which we thought prevented it, and install a sliding door as well. All done in just over a week, as advertised. Reasonable price. Quality team. Highly recommended.

He says he helped them and gave them a good deal but cannot provide documentation around what he did. He did not guarantee his work even though he stated on a call that it has a "standard 2 year warranty is the law for Arizona repairs". I dont know if that law is true but overall dont say it if you do plan on keeping that word or backing up your work. The work he did, didnt even last a year. He gave unprofessional advise towards my family and stated "you're on the fast track to getting this house condemned and your inheritance evaporated" --off of work he did by the way!! DO NOT hire this guy, I promise you his immaturity level and lack of professionalism and documentation will leave you high and dry!!"

Johnathan made the deprecated HVAC vents in my historic home disappear, no trace of their former existence. He hung the sheetrock in a new art studio built in my backyard. Despite the less-than-perfect framing (by me), the interior walls are perfect; nary a ripple or a waggle. Johnathan applied stain to my cedar-clad garage and art studio, a somewhat tricky process; the result was perfection. Johnathan also painted the 100-year-old brick exterior and wooden eaves of my house. There were layers of old peeling paint dangling from the eaves. He meticulously scrapped and patched that mess, and the result is spectacular. Every penny spent with Can Build was worth it. No matter the task, I would not hesitate to hire Can Build.
