Belgravia Garage - Image showing what they failed the MOT for.

WARNING, AVOID THIS GARAGE AT ALL COST!!! BEWARE, THEY ARE A SCAM!!!…read moreThey called me asking me if I wanted to book an MOT because it was due 01.02.2023. We booked the MOT for 25.01.2023 and I took the car in at 8am in the morning. About 2 hours later, they called and said that there was a "major defect" and the MOT failed due to a cracked ball joint dust cover. After going back, I asked for the car to be lifted so as to verify their claims. They lifted the car and all I saw was a small fresh-looking cut on the outer rubber, which can't possibly be a reason to fail an MOT. They claimed that it had to be replaced. When I asked them for the price, told me that it would cost £450 plus the MOT (£55) to "get it all done by tomorrow". This was in fact a widely available part for less than £35 OEM brand new. The guy who called me initially said: "Don't look at me like that, you are starting to annoy me, and you are wasting my time". He then walked away and left the room. After speaking to the manager, they were offering a £50 discount and it was at this moment that I knew all of this was just part of a very well planned and coordinated scam. They refused to give me the keys so that I could charge my phone and call my lawyer. I told them that the conversation would not continue until I have called my lawyer. They then unlocked the car without giving me back my keys and I was only allowed to charge my phone from the passenger seat. After about 10 minutes, the manager came out with the car key and the MOT papers and told me that he did not want any money for the MOT or the proposed service, saying that "[he doesn't] want any trouble" and that I am "free to go". I ended the call with my lawyer, called a garage in Park Royal who immediately booked me in. They had three MOT technicians and their manager look at the "crack" and they said that this is not even worthy of an advisory warning because there is nothing wrong with the part or it's functionality. They proceeded with the rest of the MOT checks and about one hour later, a PASS was recorded. They even removed one of the advisories for the rear brake pads, which was also falsely diagnosed. I went back to Belgravia Garage to tell them that the scam they tried to pull on me was unsuccessful and that I have proof that it was an attempted scam because the MOT should have been a clear PASS right from the start. I told them that they wasted my time, caused unnecessary frustration and this this incident will be reported to the DVSA. I asked them to remove all personal information they have from me from their system as a verbal GDPR request. The attached screenshot from the DVSA records. Please note that the name of the other MOT centre is hidden so as to prevent claims that I am advertising for the other place, and that this is the reason why I am writing the review. I even went to third random MOT centre totally unannounced, asked them to have a quick look at it and tell me if it is PASS or a FAIL. Both MOT centres commented that it looked like someone had jabbed a screwdriver into the rubber, but that it is not a FAIL under any circumstance. If you look closely, you might see the imprint of a screwdriver right in the middle of the rubber torus. These ball joint covers actually have two layers, and only the outer layer was slightly damaged. No oil or grease leaking, so the inner layer must have been intact. This also means that no dirt can actually contaminate the ball joint and therefore no defect should have been diagnosed. The only conclusion is that Belgravia Garage intentionally misdiagnosed the fault so as to attempt to extract more money from me (without success), which is why I have called them a scam! They used disgusting, foul and manipulative practices to try and squeeze money out of me and I genuinely hope that you do not take your car here after reading this. It was their aggressive greedy attitude that just gave their bluff away! PS: Almost all of their 4 and 5 star reviews are fake and / or have been paid for. Just look at the hidden reviews and you will see that 9 out of 9 are hidden (not recommended) and 2 are already removed due to policy violations.
