Absolutely lovely. However, the engine has low compression and I need to take it out of my car to get another one installed.

When I got home, I was finally able to take it in, and was told that I had a cracked wheel. The next day at work, I was griping to a couple friends about how much this was likely to cost and they both suggested that I go to a junkyard. I had always heard about junkyards, but had never been to one. When I checked the yellow pages, I was happy to see that there was one so close to me and decided to go check it out. Boy, am I glad I did! Price at Discount Tire - $155; price at Ryan's Junkyard - $85, plus a $10 rebate for giving them the cracked wheel. It was a pretty cool experience, too. It is in the ghetto (8 Mile & Wyoming) but if you don't mind that its a definite gold mine. All the people are super friendly and helpful - and trilingual. They've got a whole yard plus a couple warehouses of scrapped cars and salvaged parts, so you can find pretty much anything you need at a good price. Now that I know where this is, and am familiar with how it works, I will definitely go here whenever I need anything in the future.

The next day I went in and he was not there yet. I was told by another employee that he was a certified mechanic. My charge system light was on, and I was very concerned. This employee told me there was nothing to worry about, as did Steve when he got there. I left and immediately drove to Troy Honda. I was blessed because I made it there and as soon as I pulled in, my car completely shut down. They managed to get it into the service bay and ran it through their comprehensive system and found out it was not only a bad alternator, but it was not a new one. They said I was very lucky to have made it there. I explained to them that I was unemployed and could not afford to have the work down there. They were extremely kind to me. I asked if they thought I could make it to Brakes & More in Royal Oak, where I have my work done. They said they couldn't guarantee it but theyhoped so. I did make it there. They said the same thing about the alternator. I took the alternator back in today, Monday, 12/17/2024. I explained the above and they accused me of lying. I asked for the core back and they said they no longer had it. They said they didn't have a certified mechanic and never told me that. They said the alternator was new, even though I told them two reputable places said that it was not. Everything that I mentioned to them in a very calm, professional manner, they said I was lying about. I finally did get my refund. However, I did not get the refund for the money I paid the "certified mechanic". I decided I would remain gracious and professional in my dealing with them. However, I will never buy anything here again. They are dishonest, unprofessional, and sell faulty products. If you decide to do business with them, all I can say is buyer beware. I would like to give them a -10 stars.

He tried to tell me I was past my 18 month warranty when in fact I still had 29 days left on it. Then he had to test the battery just to make sure it was dead. Dude, why would I bring the battery here if it still had juice in it? Then I tried to ask about any additional warranties for the new battery and his response to that was abrasive and rude. Never gave me eye contact and when I said Thank you and I hope you have a nice day the asshole didn't even say anything back. But the gentlemen in front of me he helped prior he was polite as hell too. FYI I am a African American man and these are Caucasians who treated me this way at this location.

They do not have scarred knuckles or dirty finger nails and they most certainly do not know the difference between a limited slip differential and a Knutson valve. These places are endlessly frustrating for customers who know what they're doing. Then there are the other kinds of auto parts stores. The rare business run by competent professionals who have seen everything, turned many a wrench in anger and know exactly how to fix the rotted kickdown mechanism on your beaten-up clunkbucket. This is Hastings. Walking in, the store is large and open with a the right mix of tools, fluids, consumables and floor stock to get easier jobs done, no barrage of frou-frou garbage to shine your car tires, no tweety-bird floor mats, no bullet-hole decals. As you walk to the prominent service counter you notice a comforting odor of WD40 and engine oil, think of it as a sign. These guys get straight to the point, provide insight and help on questions you have, often everything you need in stock by a quality brand and at competitive pricing. What sends this place over the top is in the back though. There you'll find one of the most competent and speedy machine shops you'll ever have need of. Swap out some bushings? Ten minutes. New wheel bearings pressed in? Overnight. The machine shop alone is reason enough to frequent Hastings.
