I can't say enough good things about Larry Skalet (the owner) and his team at Master Transmission…read more We were on a road trip from northern MN to AZ and our transmission went out in Detroit Lakes. It was Saturday at about 4PM. For starters, Larry was the only one who would answer the phone over the weekend. But he was willing to come out to DL that evening and get us if the car couldn't make it to Fargo (which fortunately it did). After we explained our dilemma to them (I had a work interview early that week and our son was starting a new school), they worked over the weekend to completely rebuild our transmission and got us out of there by Monday at noon. In fairness I did pay them a bonus to do so (my suggestion, they did not ask for it), but they absolutely pulled out all the stops to get the transmission done for us as soon as they could. In addition, their price was well under what I know a competitive bid is for a full transmission rebuild. If you're looking for designer coffee, Muzak and fluffy couches to sit on while you wait, you'll be disappointed. (However, all of those things are a $5 Uber ride down the road.) Their operation is pretty no-frills. But that's not what I'm looking for or want in a transmission shop... I want someplace that can get the work done quickly, well, and for a fair price. If that is what you're looking for, this is the place. They're just imminently decent people who do really solid transmission work. I know I'm the first review on Yelp for them, but please don't let that keep you from giving them a try. You won't be sorry.

I had a personal job for spark plugs to do on my own vehicle and thought I could trust them. The spark plugs were a design flaw 2 piece design that break off in the heads. You need a special tool which is $100 so I asked them to do it. The service writer Justin said they had the tool and could do the work. After complete I asked him if they broke any spark plugs and he replied "We didn't break any" I said "Great" and drove away. A week later I started experiencing problems. P0420 code which is for Catalytic converter plugged. I replaced that and then got a P0171 code, which is too lean. After several parts I decided to pull the plugs. #6 and #8 were broke off in the head and had to be extracted. The two broken plugs were loose not like the others. After removing all 8 it was found that they did not do the job. I sent a picture to Justin and he denied that they did not do the job. He said that they would do the right thing and make it right, but when I spoke with Bruce the owner he was very rude and just wanted to pay me off for the labor and spark plugs. He also denied that they did not do the job. More recently my company requested a quote for catalytic converter on a bus where it had been cut off. Justin quoted us $597 over on the price of the converter alone. If you get work done here get a quote, check the pricing and check to make sure the work was done right. Also request that Technician #76 does not do any work. That was the technician that didn't do the work and lied about it. In the pics provided you can clearly see the difference between the old design and the new one. You can clearly see rust on the old plugs so they are not newly replaced. When I showed Bruce the plugs he tried to tell me maybe I received old stock and still denied that they did not do the work. So much for doing the right thing! I don't like writing bad reviews, but in this case I believe I should warn people since your vehicle is your lively hood. We need shops who we can trust. I understand things break but be transparent with your customers and don't blame them for your mechanics wrong doing.

After dropping my pickup off and waiting 45 minutes they said they would have to drop the transmission to complete the fluid swap, now charge around $1400 and "that they had no idea they made the transmissions that way" - the truck is 6 years old... you can't tell me as a auto center I am the first '19 Silverado coming through your door. Posting this review as a caution for others that they may try and scam you the way they tried to get me.

11 days ago I'm…read moreheartbroken and utterly disappointed. For years, I've been a loyal customer of Matt's Automotive. Based on my previous experiences with Matt's, I have referred I don't know how many people every time I overheard somebody asking for a recommendation for a shop in town that was trustworthy.Yes, they were always on the pricier side, but their expertise and efficiency made it seem worthwhile. Sadly, my recent experience has shattered that trust, and I can confidently say I will never return. What was supposed to be a 'simple brake service' & inspection of my brake system as well as alternator turned into a five-day ordeal filled with a lot of waiting, awkward silence, and ultimately frustration and miscommunication. During which my car wasn't even fixed for the original issue and ended up in worse condition then when I brought it there.... To make matters worse, this happened during my move, leaving my and my son's belongings trapped inside my vehicle. Initially, I wasn't concerned because I trusted Matt's and their employees. I believed my possessions were safe......... However, while my vehicle was in their care, the passenger side window completely detached from its track and fell into the door. Not only was I not informed of this damage, but my car was also left outside for an unknown number of days before I discovered it myself. Upon inspecting my vehicle, I noticed items were missing from my belongings. I'm not accusing Matt's of theft; it's more likely that opportunistic individuals passing by saw the compromised window and took advantage. But the fact remains: my sense of security was violated. This entire experience has been deeply traumatic. The combination of the botched repair, the damaged window, and the missing belongings has left me feeling violated and betrayed. I understand that mistakes happen, and things get missed, but the complete lack of communication and care is unacceptable. I'm truly sorry, but I can no longer trust Matt's Automotive with my vehicle. **Edit ; upon picking my vehicle up from matts it was abundantly clear they had hit a light pole that was in front of where my vehicle was parked . Let me be clear I do not drive a nice brand new fancy vehicle, however the vehicle I have is my literal baby my pride and joy. Not only was I not informed that my vehicle apparently had hit a light pole I had to figure this out myself based off of the mud on my tires, the trench dug into the grass in front of my vehicle that perfectly aligned with the tires, and the crack in the base of the light pole directly in front of it. Needless to say I feel absolutely violated and I just want to cry! NEVER NEVER NEVER will I ever bring a vehicle here again! **3/24/25 edit: after seeing verns reply I felt the need to clarify,I understand that my vehicle had no brakes That's the exact reason I was bringing it into the shop however even with no breaks I managed to safely get that vehicle across town and into a parking spot without hitting any other vehicles in the mance automotive parking lot. If this is something I can accomplish throughout the course of an evening relatively easily twice I don't think getting my vehicle from the shop to a parking space should take over 2 hours nor should it involve damaging anything else whether that is property or otherwise. I brought my truck right over to premier repair they had no issue getting my breaks done in fact they didn't need the rim keys either they left my wheel locks on they didn't even ask for them. Now thank God my vehicle has brakes and it is no thanks to Matts automotive, I wouldn't have had such an issue I understand that things happen especially when a vehicle has something wrong with it like no brakes however the fact that I wasn't even notified not only of my window dropping but of my vehicle hitting a light pole in your parking lot that's just wrong. I'm not looking for somebody to cover the damages or seek anything like that I just wanted to be notified that my vehicle hit something without my knowledge.
