Company only cares about taking your money and that's it. They don't respond to emails and don't communicate from one department to another. They were confident books would print in 2 weeks. It's been 4 weeks and I'm missing an event because I did not receive books in time. Company barely apologized and definitely did not offer anything to compensate or make right. Brad Wilhelm was my sales representative and he did not respond to an email I sent 2 weeks prior, which would have resolved all this. I paid for some professional reviews from them and one is clearly an ai generated slopfest. They also made ads for me and they are as professional as something a 6th grader would have made on a first attempt. Literally use anyone but them and you'll do fine. AuthorHouse, is nothing more than a scam. I paid them several thousands of dollars and never signed a contract, and they have been selling my book all over the world since 2000 and I never gave them my permission. Then they tried to give me royalties and have only given me about $30 over the whole 25 years. They have been nasty and insulting and I only spoke with one person there that had integrity. They are crooks and do not deal with them. Previously, I had self-published my book but went with them because they had print on demand (POD) and I did not have to worry about storage space. What a scam, and many of the attorneys in Bloomington where Authorhouse is located will not take my case. Published my first book with them. While it is published and the design it good, I did so much of the work myself. It went through three editors that I found myself. I also hired out my own cover designer because I did not want stock artwork. I put a lot of work into it to get what I wanted. On the flip side. Customer service is awful. A year afterwards, I still have no royalty payments. They neglect to tell you that you must put in your banking information to get paid. Customer service is lacking. This place is more of a scam than anything. I wrote and illustrated a children's book. Working with this company was not easy at all. They don't listen. The design phase of the publishing was a nightmare. They ended up sending me a copy of my book with one illustration and a few words on each page, but the words didn't go with the illustration. I was explicit about how I wanted it, and they did something entirely different. After much back and forth, and phone calls, I got it done the way I wanted it, but they published my book with errors in it and then wanted me to pay extra to change the two tiny typos. They won't quit calling me asking for money to help promote my book. They want thousands of dollars to put it on Google, etc. Why would I want to pay even more money to put a book with errors in it anywhere? I knew I wasn't going to make a lot of money and now I can't even get them to pay me what they say they owe me. They say I didn't give them the right bank routing number, but it is correct. Author House guaranteed I would receive 3000 printed book by Thanksgiving. They did not arrive. When I complained, they said they made no guarantee and they don't make delivery guarantees. I would not have ordered 3000 books without a shipment guarantee. This is illegal! Federal Trade Commission- when you make a purchase, Author House must send you a document specifying date of delivery and if they can't guarantee shipment date they must make this clear in writing. And if delivery will arrive late, they must ask you if you still want it and offer a full refund. Author House has illegal business practices. Report them to the FTC. I did. Had my book ready, with illustrations and one round of edits, and gave it to AH on a silver platter. The book turned out great (I had it ready before calling them). My concern is the marketing package I paid for; there is NO way to determine how many books sold on Amazon. AH told me afterwards when I called to inquire how many books sold - "We don't guarantee sales." You won't hear that until months later when you inquire about your royalties. Also, I left messages that went unreturned, and it was frustrating as I had recommended another author to use their service. This company has the worst sales practice. I think they are fooling the writers. A friend of mine had a book published by them. I wanted to buy the book and went to their bookstore then to their catalog but both sites are offering the writers how to publish with them. There's no way you can get to their published books. I chose Author House in good faith that they would fulfill their contractual obligations. The publication process was a nightmare. When they say self publish, they mean you do the work your self. it wasn't until I threatened to write the governing agencies of the publishing business did I get their attention regarding my manuscript. And, still, it was published with errors. Then the marketing department, Author Solutions, contacted me with ludicrous promises of getting me on the NY Times best seller list and press releases, interviews nationwide for a mere $15,000 dollars which the "marketing supervisor" I spoke to wanted an immediate decision and was put off when I told him I needed to investigate further and would not give him a credit card number to charge. Then, after I asked not to be contacted regarding marketing. Two other agents contacted me. One I refused to listen, the other wanted me to invest close to $4000.00 for exposure for an hour at a university book fair. I have since contacted a reputable publishing firm who is taking excellent care of my needs. Fernando at Page Publishing is the bomb. I am currently investigating my rights and will pursue legal action. Meanwhile, I am focusing on the publication and distribution of this book and other works I have ready. Tough, expensive, lesson learned. I can say that the illustration team that worked on my illustrations did an amazing job and it is obvious they took the time to review my manuscript, bringing my vision to life. This company to me is a RIP off. I published my book years ago. It has been published on Amazon, Walmart, Barnes and Nobles, and small book stores. I only received a couple of cents, yet I seen reviews from people who brought the book for a higher price now. However, I was told by customer support that I will only receive what was presented long ago in the contract at original price first published. Yet some places are charging $13-35 for my book. I paid $900.00 several years ago to have my booked published after the corrections were submitted, the book still came out with many mistakes. A few years had passed and only heard from them, wanting more money. I also did my own artwork for the cover and sent it in, because I am a fine artist. I had to take care of family in another state and I only had a phone call or two. Once back home I called them and complained, "where are my books?" They sent me promotional items, I finally had to threaten with a lawyer. I finally received the books. Beyond frustration. The printed book had missing and misplaced pages and illustrations. It's a 20-page illustrated book for children, as is it's just a piece garbage. I'm clueless how they even managed to make such a mess while having an approved copy in front of them, and why nobody bothered to quality-proof the results. I called numerous times to try and get information of when I would receive my refund. After being lied to multiple time and passed around to voicemails. The first email stated I would receive my refund within 12-14 days. But today I received an email stating that not only will they not refund my money, but that I owed them. Authorhouse is either the most incompetent company in the U.S. or in existence only to defraud authors. They contact you only when they want to sell you something. Their "agreements" are long and mostly about securing the author's approvals of their extremely long-in-coming photos and layouts. Their first printing was a disaster that had to be completely redone. Trying to get a definitive statement from then as to what they will do for the money advanced to them is virtually impossible. And their "marketing" seems to be limited to placing brief descriptions of the book on sites such as Youtube and Facebook.............which means that no one on the planet becomes aware of the book unless they happen to know its exact title. read more

I had a book published by AuthorHouse in April of 2018. After being passed around to several different people within the organization, I was able to overcome all of the hurdles and get my book published. AuthorHouse claimed that they mailed my first royalty check to me in July of 2018. I did not receive the check and after contacting AuthorHouse several times, I was told I would have to wait six months and after the check expired they would reissue the check. They refused to tell me if the check had been cashed and told me they would not be able to give that information for six months. In March of 2019 I contacted AuthorHouse and they told me that they would direct deposit the money into my account. As of this date no deposit has been made. Emails have gone unanswered and telephone calls have had no results. I am currently researching republishing my book with another company. read more

Wish I could give zero stars. Multiple representatives who did not understand or communicate well in English. Emails that did not capture our conversations well. Fonts incorrect, formatting missing, sales person saying they could do something that the layout people said they could not. It took months of going back and forth. Sometimes I would get so frustrated I couldn't even talk to my rep. Her supervisor was also not very effective, but I ended up talking to the supervisor most of the time because of the ineptitude of the initial representative. I wanted to use a cover designed by a graphic artist I'd hired separately and they gave me a hassle about that too. Their process for publishing was all backwards, too. They were more interested in my approving a poorly laid out product and getting their money for completing something than helping me become the author of a book I could be proud of. If you want to sell your book, not just pay thousands of dollars to say you're a published author but actually make money through sales of the book, do not use these folks. There are virtually no discounts to get copies of my book. I would have had to buy hundreds of books to get a small discount. And then leave the marketing up to me--unless I wanted to purchase a poorly-designed marketing package. The pricing is terrible for my book and I cannot change it--it's way overpriced (in my estimation). Even the Kindle version is too expensive. Working with them to change anything is a mega hassle for all the communications reasons and their packages are not friendly. The quality of the services are not worth the prices. Go to CreateSpace.com, the self-publishing "sister" of Amazon.com. It's still a do-it-yourself house, but the final product is better, and the customer service was friendly and helpful. read more
