Roughly two years ago, I went to the Downtown Brooklyn location while I was serving on jury duty…read more If I recall, it was not a bad experience. Seeing there is one in Lower Manhattan near my office, I decided to give this one a go for lunch today. In all, the slices are solid, but definitely nothing to go crazy about. Overall the theme of the slices is one thing, salty. A good pizza slice should be salty, but not too salty. Too much salt ruins the slice and makes for a more cumbersome experience to the whole thing. The plain slice is solid, nice cheese and sauce, and the sourdough crust adds a nice touch. A little acidity to the sauce, but nothing screaming. The pepperoni slice is just okay. Most of the pepperoni is well overcooked, and it is quite a salty slice. It could be hard to recover from this slice if you do not order a white slice... Which is what I did. The white slice is solid but nothing notable. A slight garlic touch, a slight lemon flavor, and a beautiful undercarriage. The undercarriage is what saves the slice. Otherwise heartburn will set in quickly. Downtown, particularly TriBeca, FiDi, and Civic Center, all lack a viable pizza option. This one is solid, but Jay's and Joe's supersede this Norm's by a country mile. Overall pizza rating: 3.3/5

TL;DR- A decent slice of pizza for the price. While I wouldn't go out of my way to visit, it's…read moreperfectly acceptable. The rating is for the area, as FiDi is generally pretty terrible with options, including pizza outside of Neapolitan pies. This location is one of several from this NYC pizza chain. I've been to another one near Union Square, and my thoughts are similar for both places. The plain slice costs $3.50, has a decent amount of cheese, and a fresh sauce which is bright, but not super notable. I did find the overall flavor a bit salty, possibly due to the cheese blend or the sauce. The crust is thin and slightly crispier than what I've experienced elsewhere, but not so crispy that it tastes burnt, as I've encountered at some other places like Cello's. At $3.50, it's a solid option, definitely better than many other chains like La Pizza Italia or the subpar Little Italy Pizza/Ray's. Personally, I would choose to walk over to the much busier Joe's instead, but this place does the job just fine, and it's cheaper, though, as noted by others, thinner than Joe's, so it's a bit less filling. It's good for a quick bite.

One of the many reasons to love NYC... one small little section of the city - you'll have pizza…read morejoints anchoring both corners (the one - Joe's - with a line around the block) and not too far away Leon's Bagels with an equally ridiculous amount of people waiting for their food as well. And tucked between them... a small, unassuming Thai place - empty when we first arrived (but filling up by the time we left) - that's humbly slinging incredible food. Let's get my bellyaching out of the way - there were three of us and the first dish came out wicked fast. The second dish about five minutes later. The final dish about five minutes after that. (So the first person is done eating as the last person is finally getting to dig in.) Otherwise... the food was crammed with the flavors and spices you'd expect with Thai cuisine. (I'd love to learn the secrets to how they're able to manipulate tofu into something so damn delicious.) One kid said it was by far the crispiest (fried) chicken he'd ever encountered. (But that side salad it came with wasn't a hit.) The portion size was impressive, and it was reasonably priced (hey, this is NYC - after all). An almost-perfect quickie lunch after working up an appetite from a Pace University campus tour for my teens. (Just don't get me started on how expensive the parking lot a few blocks away was for three hours!)

I used to like this place A LOT and always swung by whenever I was in the neighborhood. Sadly, both…read morethe food quality and service have gone down significantly. The Thai Ribs Red Curry chefs special was disappointing. The ribs didn't have much flavor and were merely two and a half pieces, and apart from two pieces of eggplant, the rest were green bell peppers. Service was rather inattentive and unfriendly. Took forever to get acknowledged, and never got a water refill. Check came very quickly though.
