We literally followed our noses (just like our beagle) and found it. It was late in the day, we had already had lunch but the smell was just too good so we had to order. There was very little left in the cabinet and we ended up with a Beef Brisket Pie to share. OHHH MYYY GOD! Possibly the best pie I have ever tasted, I cant say eaten because I literally got 2 bites - my husband pretty much devoured the whole thing within minutes. So happy to have stumbled across this little place and will be back for sure. **After reading other reviews of this place and it's sister properties, I feel it's important to note that I have been living in Sydney for less than a year and at the time of writing this, I had not heard of Bourke Street Bakery, nor did I know that other locations existed**

The muffins are crispy at the edge, and gloriously fruit-packed in the middle. The varieties of sourdough bread are stunning, and always deeply delicious. Have it as a breakfast treat with some ricotta and jam and you'll smile all day. The croissants are good, too, as are the brioches. Look, if it's breadlike and you can bake it in an oven they do it best here. Their coffee is exceptionally good too. It's warm and welcoming, with tables and colouring materials for kids (it's popular with families). There are outdoor tables for smokers, or for sunny days. Staff are great, even in the face of cranky customers who don't know how to queue properly. Every visitor I've brought here adores it, and asks to go back.

Nice looking baked goods with a tight seating area. Too bad the taste of the food did not match the appearance. The chocolate croissant had about a snack size candy bar's worth of chocolate in it. Haven't been back to either of the aforementioned shops since then. I always seem to get a combination of some of my favorite items: red bean buns-not to be confused with their red bean "paste" buns, which are thicker and sweeter-, custard buns, egg tarts, plain polo buns, and taro polo buns. There's all range in price $1.00 ~ $2.00, and I definitely prefer their versions to the ones found in other shops as these ones are less sweet and more generous with filing. Also, please be on the lookout for their pre-close specials, where they bag a few assorted items for a hugely discounted price in late afternoon around 5-6pm!

I had a cappuccino takeaway and, in hindsight, should have ordered a double shot as, the single shot was a bit too weak, which suggests one of two things a) too much milk and less foam or b) coffee not strong enough. I think it was too milky to qualify as a cappuccino in my opinion making it a bit weak. The place itself is quite nice and has a good vibe to it. It's small and there is some outdoor seating. You hit a river of warm chocolate. Once you finish that croissant you'll need to have a cigarette ;) This bakery is located in a pretty industrial area and from the outside it doesn't look like much. Hey, Brickfields is open! These guys have been baking on this corner for a while now, but it's only…read morerecently that they've turned their operation into a proper cafe. And it's delightful. Before they formally opened it was kind of fun, you could still stop by and grab a loaf, every now and then. Sometimes, walking past here at 4.30 in the afternoon, there'd be some nice chappy standing outside offering bead to everyone that passed. I probably shouldn't say that, it might breach some kind of health license. Authorities: don't worry, the bread was f*ing amazing, and some homeless people ate dinner. And they don't do that any more, now that they're all proper like. This site has also been the Mecca Espresso roastery for a while, I think. From what I understand, Brickfields is a collaboration between Paul from Mecca, and Simon from Luxe bakery. Sounds like a damn good combination. They've also figured out that less is more: all you need to do to make a bakery look attractive is put bread in the window. The rest happens through scent. Their breakfast menu is rustic and good quality - sourdough or fig & walnut toast, breakfast plates, croissants, bruschetta, that sort of thing. Baked on site, and in plain view. They make great use of this high-ceiling corner space - it's relatively unadorned, but they have revitalised the old tiles, added some high shelving, and used wooden countertops, wooden outdoor tables, and wooden stools. Actually the stools along the window are worth remarking upon in two sentences: they're marvellously engineered, but you'd really have to go there to see what I mean. It's a fabulous addition to a rather quiet, eccentric part of Chippo. The sourdough is subtle and tasty, and, of course, the coffee does not disappoint. Smooth and creamy, not at all bitter. They don't do skim - just full cream and soy. Good job fellas.

Plus, you'll notice that I don't photograph my food very often. I already took a bite when it dawned to me that this could be a worthy addition to Yelp imagery. Anyway, just mentioning this in case you were wondering if their breads come with a bite off, or if the chef (do chefs actually prepare sandwiches?) might have suddenly felt hungry. While I can't answer the latter, I can assure you both slices were intact when I got them. Enough slice yarn from this side of the counter. Coffee is mellow and a bit too soft for my gusto. But for the visually delighted, it did come with a well done free pouring art. Items on the menu range from $4.5 for the sourdough toast or the $5 for the ham & cheese croissant to the $14 bonito sandwich. Somehow a two digit figure and a sandwich doesn't mix well with me (most items are in that range). Unless it's a sandwich that puts all on it that's humanly possible - while I haven't seen the bonito, I doubt it's one of those. That's not to say the food isn't nice and tasty. Fennel had definitely sown the seeds of taste onto my slice, but would I return soon? Probably be a while.
