I lived at Homestead at Hartness for 3 years, and to say "Watch out!" would be an understatement…read more The last 6 months of my lease were pure hell. I suffer from lupus, and they were fully aware of this. When they continued to raise rent each year by an astronomical amount, I decided to leave. They knew this, and they knew when my lease was up. The only reason I stayed for so long was the hardship of moving, being a single mom, and my autoimmune disease.
Once they found someone to rent my house, they needed them in a good 2 months before my lease was up. I received an email titled "VACATE". They asked if I had found a place yet and told me I needed to leave because someone from out of town was moving in and didn't have a place to live. What about me? They had their next foolish victim and couldn't care less about the time I had spent there. I told them most places won't work with you or even consider you until you are about 30-45 days out. Even then, I did my best to begin looking.
I took PTO from my job, and when I finally found a place, I thought they would be happy. Nope, they told me I took too long (10 days) and "that ship had already sailed". I still had time on my lease, so I wasn't in a big hurry to move at this point, AND they told me I was still responsible for the duration of my lease. I know, CRAZY!
I slowly began moving, and one day at work, I received a call that there were still items in my house. AHHH, yes, I still had 10 days on my lease. They told me I needed to vacate by 1 PM that day because they needed to clean it for the next tenant. Needless to say, I was upset and crying; I had lived there for 3 years, and the place needed a paint job and more than a cleaning. They didn't care.
When I could finally catch my breath, I called and asked, "What in the world?" I finally caved in, as I was so beat down by their insensitivity to someone who is suffering from a possibly fatal disease, and said I would vacate by Saturday morning. I AGAIN took PTO and began gathering the last of my items from my house. I was so sick from the stress that I was vomiting, and my body and joints hurt so incredibly bad that I should have checked myself into the hospital.
I missed about 4 days of PTO, suffered mentally and physically, and they couldn't have cared less. I did ask for a check for the remaining time on my lease. Guess what? It's been over 30 days and NOTHING. Do not let the beauty of this place fool you. Do not let Lisa, the manager, or Hannah, the Regional Property Manager, sway you in any fashion because you can't benefit them, and they can get a new tenant at a higher rent.
