I called yesterday to get a quote on classes etc, the lady who answers the phones is the last person you want to talk to. Very rude, acts like she doesn't need business from people that call in. They need to hire an answering service that can give them all the prices so we do t have to deal with that lady. She was rude and I had questions and she sounded like people that call in and have questions they are wasting her time horrible experience I will not give them my business. I was going to but the full package for my daughter now another driving school will get my money. Kindness goes along way and rudeness will destroy your business. Asian women got harassed by testers, and this company's management team did NOTHING. I have been waiting for an apology for 5 months, did not hear anything back. The tester in the location (Anderson Mill) has HARASSED at least FOUR Asian ladies. I found this out by posting my experience in the Asian community. FYI, I believe this white hair elderly guy is the only tester of this location. I called Austin Driving School (general line) to report this incident, and they acted super cold, impatient and did nothing. (It has been 5 months since I called them.) On my first test, he asked me "Where are you from" and then "Why are you HERE." I answered but he did not give any response. During the test, he kept making weird noises in his mouth the whole time, I couldn't understand but I could tell he was super vicious and definitely cursing something. Afterward, he failed me, and then walked to my mother-in-law instead of ME to tell her "Your girl has no idea about the law here, go home and teach her more." And he asked me to come back two days later to take another test. On my second test, he kept touching my arms up and down, asking me where my husband was from; and how long I'd been married. I told him I had been married for two years. And he called me "You are an old lady now". Then he said it was a joke, I do not find this funny. I passed the second test, but how he touched my arms made me disgusted for days. I know he could probably get away with what I wrote above because he is old. He could say "Sorry I am too old to make people feel respected." "It was just some little jokes." But again, I did not see him touch guys' arms. I chatted with other Asian ladies who got "touched" by him, and one of them said she was cursed by this tester the whole testing process as well. I want to share my experience because I think no one deserves to be treated like this, I paid 80 dollars for the test, technically I am a customer. But seems like he enjoys abusing the power in his hand. Also, shame on this company, because THEY DONT CARE. read more

This business has been a complete disaster! I have two daughters. The first had a good experience at the location on Slaughter Ln in Austin. My second was able to complete the two week class for her to get her drivers permit at the other location on Anderson Ln. Next, I was to schedule her driving lessons ( that are already paid for.) I have been trying to schedule them for 7 months. They only allow you to call on Wednesday at 3pm to schedule. Then when you call they either ignore your call or tell you the slots are full. Save your money! Do not go to the location on Anderson Ln. I'll be contacting the BBB to make a formal complaint next. Taking someone's money and never providing the service is stealing. I do not recommend this school. They are closed without notice after I make the 30 minute drive. When they do answer the phone and ask me to hold, they never come back. I have called more than one of there locations and the response is the same. I get conflicting information form whomever I talk to, and they do not stick with their published hours. The staff is not available, unresponsive and undependable. This is not who I want to teach my child responsible driving!! They have become excessively commercial lately and come across as somewhat scammy. On my second attempt at their driving road test on June 20th, I scored only 40. Then, just six days later, on June 26th, I took the road test at a Texas DPS, generally considered more difficult than those conducted by third party driving schools, and passed with a score of 90. How is it even possible for someone to show such a drastic improvement in driving skills in just six days and pass a harder test? Doesn't that clearly suggest that the driving school was acting suspiciously? After my second failed attempt, they immediately pushed their 500 dollar driving lesson program on me. Their motives were obviously driven by profit, and it felt like they were simply trying to extract money from me. I strongly advise against taking their road test. You are much better off taking it directly at a Texas DPS location in Austin. read more

I'm not sure if the people are happy working there but I've never had a good experience here. Just get your child to do the driving test and walk away from them. Never look back! I definitely don't recommend. First, I paid to get my daughter into the driving school. Then it became a problem getting her behind the wheel. I went to the Cedar Park location, the nice lady said they couldn't get her behind the wheel for some time and recommended the Anderson Mill location. Anderson Mill said they could get her behind the wheel in 3 weeks and that was fine. But no, the appointment never happened. I frequented there several times and after 5 months of trying, I gave up and started teaching my daughter myself. They refunded my money, but with a lot of stress and several phone calls. Months went by and I called to have my daughter scheduled for the driving test, the man who picked up the phone sounded miserable. He pretty much gave me a date and asked if I could pay $85 now. I asked him for details and he hung up on me. I immediately called the office back and a lady picked up and I told her the man was very rude. She said, "he couldn't hear you" and proceeded to ask what I needed. She was helpful at least. read more

Apparently there were no drivers to teach so I had to teach her which is fine but they kept the extra money and never issued refund. I have approached them 2x and the admins working respond with I don't know. Also I am still waiting for the final certificate so my daughter can take the driving test. I had a wonderful experience with Mr. Justin(5700 Menchaca Rd). He made driving less nerve-wracking for me. Mrs. Susan at the front desk was quick and easygoing. I had three classes in a row, and the test was right after the third class. I still remember what the instructor taught me about self-defense driving, and it has helped me tremendously in my daily driving. read more

We have had a horrendous experience with them. It's nearly impossible to schedule the lessons that we paid for. There is never anyone available to pick up the phone. The driving instructors fall asleep while the teen is driving. It is impossible to get a hold of anyone at the office to obtain the certificate of completion. What a nightmare. Classes went off without a hitch but scheduling the "mandatory" driving hours with Austin Driving School instructors has been a disaster. There is no staff, so no way to schedule instructor lead driving. This is ridiculous. They say office hours but when you call during that time you get a Fax beep and no way to leave a message. Once signed up we were told there is no way to schedule anything in advance and we had to wait for them to call us. Between September 2022 and February 2023 we have received ONE call from them about an available slot that would have taken place at 8am the next morning (we were unable to make it at such short notice). Now I've been trying for weeks to get my money back and they won't return my calls in order to get that moved through. read more

I actually just made a fraud complaint with the attorney general's office. This place has been taking people's money for years knowing full well they don't have anyone to actually teach driving. Their website actually says "easy scheduling" when it's IMPOSSIBLE to schedule. They have no way to schedule online. They only keep a paper schedule and only schedule a few weeks out. They NEVER answer the phone - never. They do not return voicemails. There's no email option. this is 100% a SCAM. They also DO NOT pick up from the high schools as their website states. Oh and if you're lucky enough to get an appt. and need to cancel or reschedule, that's not happening. And their VM says you can't cancel via VM or you will be charged, but NO ONE is there to answer the phone so that's a big scam too so they can charge you if you need to cancel. read more

My daughter finished the classroom portion in the summer and STILL hasn't gotten a drive in. They won't return my calls, and I've called repeatedly, and tried reporting it to their main office and still no return call. At this point I will ask for a refund and report to BBB. I sure wish there were negative stars we could give....cause I would! My child is signed up with the Anderson Mill location. During classroom instruction my child's big takeaway was: They tell me to act like everyone's on the road to kill me! Alright, I'll agree that teaching "defensive" driving is good...but everyone trying to kill them? No wonder my kids loses their dang mind when trying to drive. Fine, we get through that and on to instructional behind-the-wheel driving. Yay! Oh wait, no yay....more like, you're killing me smalls! You can only book one session out at a time. Apparently the "instructors" willy-nilly hand in schedules that the school then uses to book times for students? Parents have to remember to call? Man, I'm busy. You can dang well bet that I forgot plenty of times. And I guess, hope to get lucky that you call at the right time? Oh yeah, you can only drive once every three weeks. That was super fun to learn! But it's only every three weeks if you a) call at that perfect magical time, and 2) the "instructors" are available? Awesome. Fine. Again. I guess. We're driving now! Woooo......oh, sad times. My child has a recurrent instructor that tries to "alarm" my child by swatting (yeah?) my child's hand, or make other alarming noises/actions to teach my child to not pay attention? Cool. That makes no sense, but whatevs. I'm the parent so I have trusted this instructional phase because I'm not the right fit for this...... Or am I? Hell, I could swat my child's hands and feel all super good about instruction as well! Okay, okay. We're here. Almost at the tail end. Phew. I'm thinking, my child is prepared for the road test. Um...no. So very no. My father took my child out for some highway driving, as my child (being a teenager) is so very disagreeable to all my suggestions. He said, and I quote "Not ready at all. X wants the drivers license before June? X needs all those weeks and then some. X will fail and probably hurt themselves and other drivers on the road. Seriously? What the heck did I pay for?! Didn't learn a lot of imperative information during the classes. The teacher would just tell stories a lot of the time. He was really nice though. The driving instructors weren't friendly at all during the actual driving lessons either. One of them started yelling at me when I had trouble pulling out, angry that I wasn't practicing enough on my own. I didn't have the ability practice on my own, that's why I was THERE. Cedar Park Location - Don't waste your money! The classroom portion of the course went fine, however when it comes to drive time, good luck! They only have 3 hired drivers with a backlog of 100+ kids needing hours. My daughter took the course in Jan and has only had 2 drive time sessions. She won't even be able to get her license in July because they don't have time slots available to complete the driving portion. You would think for paying almost $400 per kid they could hire some people! If I could do it all over again I would have went the parent taught route and saved $400! read more

And ALL of the burden of completing task for which I contracted with this company is falling on me - the customer. we are now speaking with Dawn at HQ, who is apologizing and promising action. The first action, we showed up, and local office said kid not on list. Local office (Slaughter, near Bowie High) apologized, and said never got word (obviously, since not on list.) Recommendation from her: keep calling. Yes, asking customer to just keep trying. Dawn said she is going to fix this, and they are a "for profit" business, so whoever invested $$ here... well, you'd think they care. I'll hope they do, but until then, this place has been a bust... (I have Twin 16 year olds, and they signed up for whatever 10+/- driving sessions. We have called more than 50+ times; we have received calls less than 5 times; and they canNOT get on a schedule. I thought I would come back and write an update of my entire experience with Austin Driving School. We signed my Son up and they would pick him up from school and take him for the class rooming learning class. That all worked out just fine and at the end of the 2 weeks he got his permit. The gal at the front desk made sure we had all of the paperwork, etc. in order to go down and get his drivers permit. My son then completed the behind the wheel training. They would even call us to remind us to book his next lesson. Be sure to call around 3pm or later for the South Austin location, we had no trouble getting through and they were always very helpful and friendly. Once my son completed the behind the wheel training, they gave him his completion certificate as well as a note attached with what he needs to have in order to get signed up for his behind the wheel test. Over all I was very happy with their service and I recommend using them :) read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. They don't tell you when you sign up that they don't have enough driving instructors and they have to share with other locations. Subsequently, you can only make one in-car appointment every 2 weeks. Students get 1 or 2-hour appointments and must complete 14 hours with their instructors. Appointment times are limited and there is far more demand than supply. Driving every other week would be the best case scenario. In reality, weeks could go by between appointments. I know a kid who started the year before us and was still showing up a year later to complete driving time. On top of all this, the woman who works the desk at this office and does the scheduling has, in my opinion, the poorest communication skills I've ever had the misfortune to encounter. Besides generally being confusing and unable to provide accurate instructions, she left my child stranded at her high school on a Friday afternoon when she never showed up with the company van. I had to go and pick up my child and was late bringing her to her 5:00 pm lesson. When I asked why she was not picked up, she told me that she doesn't pick up on Fridays. She said that it was a recent change, but could never explain why I was not told this when I made the appointment with her the week before when we specifically discussed transportation after school, nor when she called the day before to confirm the appointment. My only hope is that we can switch our remaining appointments to a different office location from which to schedule with instructors. But YOU can save yourself all this trouble and choose a different driving school altogether. read more

My experience was with the San Antonio school on Bandera RD. I was really excited to start driving lessons but was only disappointed with this school. I had prepaid for in-car lessons more than 5 days in advance. My lesson was supposed to be today but I never heard from my instructor. I had to call the school to find out why my instructor never showed up to our lesson. Only then do I find out that the instructor was not able to make it because she had to take her son to the doctor that morning. My issue isn't that she had to take her son to the doctor. No that is understandable, life happens. My issue is that she was never given my number and so was unable to contact me to let me know she wasn't going to make it. Nor did the school make any effort to contact me either. This just shows how poorly coordinated the school is and their lack of communication between staff. I should not have had to call the school to find out she wasn't able to make it. A no show appointment is unacceptable, especially if it was prepaid. They require prepayment to make sure I attend the appointment they reserved for me. I expect the same from them. Someone should have called me. When I prepay, I expect service to be delivered. This was unprofessional. They really dropped the ball this time. I asked for a refund. I expect better. read more

Austin driving school was fine for the classroom portion but when we transitioned to the driving portion things fell apart. Scheduling a driving appointment is very tricky as they absolutely refuse to answer the phone or return phone calls. I have left at least a dozen messages trying to schedule my son's next driving appointment and have received one return call only to find out the next available appointment was nearly two months out. I called the corporate office and requested a call back but was told by the phone clerk there not to expect a phone call from the manager as they are simply overwhelmed. The clerk was correct, I have left three messages at the corporate office and have yet to hear back. Again, class instruction was reasonable but I'd recommend avoiding the driving portion offered by this company. read more

Slaughter Lane is a darn close second. we signed up four kids at once between the two locations and ended up with four unique nightmares. One year later and child is still trying to schedule shifts. We are way past 16 years old. Classroom time did nothing but create anxiety. No one is helpful, accommodating, or professional. No one returns phone calls. Ever. During the summer you may only schedule one shift every three weeks -- although there is nothing in the contract stating that is the case. My three boys went to the Austin Driving School Stassney location and we had a great experience every time. No matter who answers the phone when you call they are helpful and professional. Whenever we would walk in they know all the kids by name even if it had been months since they last saw them. I found them organized and knowledgeable and if I had more kids I would certainly trust this school with helping them become great drivers. read more
