Each bookshelf, at least in the children's section, has a train carved into their side. I love the character, the uniqueness and the community connection that each of the libraries in the Hillsborough Collective have. I guess that is one of the benefits of giving autonomy to each branches "friends of the library." They can make the branch into what their community needs. As far as the library itself goes, the Lutz version is pretty small and cramped probably due to its age. It has a lot less space than some of the other branches. This isn't helped by the fact that the windows in here, save for some of the corner ones, are tiny and let in little light. This gives the Lutz Branch Library more of an old school elementary library feel. There are a few tables set up that have children's puzzles and activities for the little ones which gives them something to do while mommy or daddy or grandma looks for books. The humidity, especially in the community room where toddler time is located, is strong and it makes things a bit musty. I really like the version of toddler time that this branch puts on. It is very engaging and includes literacy concepts, book reading, music, arts and bubbles. It is also a bit smaller and more intimate than some of the other ones which allows my daughter to participate better. My motto for this branch of the Hillsborough Collective: If the train should jump the track do you want your humidity back?

On the other hand, this library is small, cute, and has lots of charm... who goes to the library for books nowadays anyway? Located next to busy HWY 41, a tiny train station, train sculpture made of bricks, and an arched bridge covered in flowers decorate the building's outside. Inside there's books (DUH)-- but the fiction and nonfiction together make a total of 8 aisles! Of course, there's DVD's, computers (around 20 internet machines), a kids area... I've never seen an entire aisle dedicated to romance novels. Now I know where to go when I'm lonely at night. It seems like the older ladies who work here were either Disney cast members or professional grandmas before... they seem to know EVERYBODY! They were so happy to help a young blood like me. They looked earnest & engrossed in their duties. Friday, 5/2/22, I visited this library for a one hour lesson in writing a "love letter will." It was interesting and I learned a few things. It was also a pitch for estate planning and wills, but I'm happy with our attorney and our will. I took the useful brochure with me. Afterwards, I wandered down the wide hallway to the double glass doors to peruse the books for sale in the front of the library. Prices were reasonable. I also looked around at the plethora of books and other materials that patrons could check out. But I had to call this visit short. I had to hurry to Palm Harbor to lead a class (Tai Chi for Balance). I hope to return for a more in depth look at what this majestic library offers.

We went to this library for toddler storytime. Since I was visiting from Orlando I was really…read moresurprised at how big, new and sparkling this library was! The storytime was so-so, but you can't complain since it was FREE and the kids seemed to enjoy it. The library looks brand new with several meeting rooms and a tall ceiling with lots of glass windows to let in plenty of natural light. They have a large collection of books and a dedicated children's area with books easily accessible in bins, blocks, table activities and board games.

I checked out a DVD of a series recommended to me by a Yelp friend. They were only one of four libraries that had it. It was easy to find, and quickly checked out by a very friendly librarian. The library has a craft basket at the checkout desk. So help yourself to a craft while they last! They also have museum passes for Pinellas and Hillsborough counties. Unfortunately, the James Museum is no longer offered. That was one of my favorite museums to visit for free. Now I will pay for the privilege. This library has plenty of parking in their parking lot, on the street, and across the way. It's all for free. It also has accessible bathrooms, a Friends of the Library book area by the front doors, community rooms, and a children's section. Do yourself a favor, and stop by to see all that is offered here.

I tried to get a library card today. Well that was absolutely ridiculous. I was asking questions…read moresince it's been 10 years since I've had a card at this location. When I asked the woman behind the counter next thing I know there was three people telling me I had to pay $25 to get a library card. As I was asking the so-called manager lady questions, she was very discriminating towards me because I had a walker and instead answered my friend who she didn't even know I was friends with that was standing next to me as if I was invisible. Way to go for discrimination. Unbelievable. It was already late in the afternoon and they wasted about 20 minutes of my very valuable time. The place needs a revamp inside. The outside is beautiful as usual. The only one that was helpful and very sweet was a young man named Ray. Thank you Ray for being a decent good human. It's a shame that your co-workers and manager are not decent at all. If you have a walker or any type of assistance with a device DON'T GO THERE. The bathroom has the heaviest door and is not accessible. They do have a stall that is larger, but you have to struggle with the door to get in at all. I can't believe this used to be a great Library. Maybe the manager should take out a book herself about discriminating against people fighting for their life

Let me preface this by stating that I grew up with libraries being a part of my life and they will always have a special place in my heart. This library, while not being very large, is well laid out and has an impressive amount of varied media on hand. From current video games (Xbox 1/PS4) to DVDs and graphic novels and a well appointed computer lab, this place has something for everyone. The upstairs has currated collections in separate spaces. A children's room, young adult and international section to hilight a few. The staff was very friendly and getting setup with a library card was effortless. The library hosts special events as well.
