I am a retired Catholic priest who served in the Archdiocese of Washington for nearly fifty years…read more Recently, I underwent surgery at Berkshire Medical Center, and that experience is the reason for this brief reflection. Over the years, I had the privilege of serving a large parish in Washington, D.C., that included many physicians, surgeons, nurses, and other medical professionals from the National Institutes of Health and Georgetown University Hospital. Having known and worked with so many outstanding people in medicine, I do not offer praise lightly. I can say without hesitation that Dr. Clayton Peterson is exceptional in two ways: as a highly skilled surgeon and as a genuinely kind, compassionate, and caring human being. Those qualities are a rare and remarkable combination. As a priest, I have met countless people in positions of leadership and responsibility. It takes a great deal to impress me. Dr. Peterson is one of those rare individuals who truly does. The people of the Berkshires are extraordinarily fortunate to have him. He is, quite simply, one of the very best.

Wound cultures, 2 checks for sepsis, multiple iv antibiotics, shots of steroids and antibiotics, many many oral antibiotics, 2 long courses of steroids, 2 organisms ate thru my tissue. Cellulitis added to a 3rd skin infection. Multiple pcp visits. Multiple emergency on call calls. Dozens of portal messages. ZERO ACCOUNTABILITY OR RESPONSE TO A COMPLAINT FILED 2 MONTHS AGO. Never even checked for a concussion. Dr Looked over my head and said "doesn't need stitches" and walked out. Back to say "ct was normal, give her a bandage and a cab voucher and have her go wait in the waiting room" FROM THE DOORWAY. Never gave concussion evaluation (which I had one and was diagnosed in Fairview) Despicable, stigmatic behavior from a medical doctor at a hospital, that houses a medical detox, in a town, full of addicts and alcoholics, at a time in the world where you can't throw a stone and not hit someone that has never been personally affected by addiction in some way. And then to not even offer an apology, let alone anything else, like a freaking response to my complaint, makes me sick.

I have had several experiences in health needs that never got addressed it's been over a year waiting for a dermatologist at the least of my medical issues. After six years of feeling neglect I decided to go for healthcare up in Boston where the bottom of their class medical personal doesn't exist. I left them totally. They get low pay pay for a reason being exactly why this review is getting written. If patients would look in detail their rights and call a lawyer most likely you have a law suit for patient neglect. Actually they are quite harmful when they do not follow up. Fill referalls that are needed or even offer alternative options for treatment. It's abuse in its classic form .And for elders report them to the department of elder abuse so they have to explain their actions in investigation process. Get names. Documents everything. Know your rights then proceed forward. This business organization is not above the medical laws set fourth by the medical board and licensing. If you feel you haven't got proper care it's because you haven't. Simply call your medical insurance and put a claim in for no services rendered and try and stop the payments or dispute any bills you get above your insurance coverage until you receive the care you deserve. I need not say more. It is a disgrace and a clowns circus.
