I enjoyed the play a lot, they have very talented actors. We saw treasure island and it was amazing! The lobby sells beer, wine, sodas and more. Also snacks like candy from the chocolate shop across the street. They only thing uncomfortable were the seats. You kinda sink into them and it's hard to get out. I'm not sure I could have lasted longer in it. Parking is either on the side street or in the back lot. All free. read more

First timer!! This was a wonderful experience with the jazz show. I have seen the Robert Johnson Band before at a Jazz club. I really enjoyed seeing him in "Ella and Louis". The acoustics were awesome. I wish they had a full bar but we managed. Loved the ambience and look of theatre. Bathrooms were not great. There was no soap before the show and no soap or toilet paper in the women's restroom after the show. Parking is on the street or in a lot across the street. read more

I took my daughters to shows there 25 years ago and it really hasn't changed much. The seats are comfortable, the acoustics are pretty good and I've liked every show I've seen there. The stage is smallish - which gives the theater a more intimate feel. The snacks and drinks are fairly priced (not outrageous like at the "big theater downtown") and the staff is friendly and helpful. There really isn't a bad seat in the orchestra sections - I haven't tried the "balcony" but it's just further back - doesn't overhang the orchestra section. The parking lot is very small so if you want close in parking you should get there pretty early. I would recommend this little gem of a theater and hopefully I'll be back soon. read more

As it was our first experience here it was a Bummer when we approached marquis was not lit. Parking proved easier than I thought but not in front on Colfax. Very small lot on left side and in back. Friendly woman handing out tickets and welcoming usher. Seats are on an angle and sound and sight of stage was adequate. "Real Woman Have Curves" caught my attention and it proved funny, insightful, and provoking. It was also a quick ride to 'Stanley' for a small after theater bite. read more

We just attended and loved 'A Very Merry Unauthorized Children's Scientology Pageant'. It was a great show, All of the young actors did an excellent job. It was hilarious and entertaining. I will definitely be back!! We bought tickets to Big Fish via Goldstar, which was such a steal! Our tickets were for an afternoon show- another good decision since, from the sounds of it, parking can be a little tight. The theater itself was a bit small but provides lots of intimacy. Every aspect of the show, including the musical choreography which caught me a little off guard at first, was beautifully done, from the stage to the costume design! Another thing to love about this place- it's supported by the city of Aurora... Coming from Texas, there aren't too many suburban towns willing to keep a theater going to provide a little culture beyond your cineplex! If you want a chance to do something a little different (and cheap), give the Fox a try! read more

I run a group of about 600 people devoted to seeing all the local theater Denver has to offer. We have been to the Aurora Fox on six occasions, and have never had a bad experience. The Fox doesn't specialize in one particular type of performance - so far we've seen four dramas (Something Wicked This Way Comes; Rashomon; The Elephant Man; The Busy World is Hushed), a musical (The Wedding Singer) and a comedy/drama (While We Were Bowling). All productions were smoothly run, and the talent has been great. The main stage is deep, and allows for pretty elaborate sets. Seating consists of two levels in the main theater, the general floor ("orchestra" seating) and the balcony. There really isn't a bad seat in the house. I think their season ticket is only $90, and would get you in to five or six shows. That's a great deal, especially if you live in the Aurora area. The black box theater is just east of the main entrance, and seats fewer people - probably around 90. Again, the seating is great. Ticket prices are under $25 for most (all?) shows, and far less for seniors (note: the theater is completely accessible for the handicapped) and groups. I highly recommend checking out the Aurora Fox - it's a great alternative to the boring old dinner/drinks Saturday night! read more

I went to the Aurora Fox a while ago to see Sweeney Todd. Loved the show! The actress who played Mrs. Lovett was fabulous. The rest of the cast was great. The experience at the Aurora Fox was a little bumpy - my friend and I were there about 20 minutes before the show and no one was manning the ticket sales. The curtains opened a full 15 minutes late. The show wasn't full enough to warrant that. After years of working in theatre, I know from experience that there's not much that should delay the start of show. However, the production value was high for a community theatre and I'll go back when shows I love are being produced. read more

We came here to see Dracula recently. I honestly expected something like the Bug but I thought they had really good production values and the acting was superb. The seats were super comfortable (I think they seat about 200 people). They even had the AC on. Definitely will be back. Had a great time. read more

This theatre is exactly what you would expect going to a small community theatre in Aurora. As long as you accept it for what it is, you won't be disappointed. The amenities here are somewhat lacking. The chairs in the theatre itself are oddly small. There are no cup holders either. The lobby got pretty packed before they let everyone into theatre. The drink prices were much more reasonable than any of the downtown theatres though ($4 for a basic wine or beer versus the $6+ downtown), We saw American Idiot here and really enjoyed the show itself. They did start it about 5-10 minutes late, which I guess is normal for this theatre. We weren't in a rush to start watching it right at 7:30 so it didn't really bother us. One thing that I thought was a nice touch: we got an email the day of the show from Ignite Theatre, thanking us for choosing them, telling us when we could arrive, and letting us know where to park. It even included a link to the little parking map on their website, highlighting the best parking locations. Considering the production value and ticket prices, we'll definitely return. read more

I have been to Aurora Fox for two productions in the last year and I've been pleased with my overall experience both times. In general, the tickets are a little more than I would like to spend, but most of their shows end up on Goldstar for half-price, a great deal! While I believe they have a small lot, Aurora Fox does not have a great deal of parking. You are better off finding a parking on a well-lit street near the theater, While you may be lucky to find parking on Colfax, there seems to be ample parking on the side streets surrounding the theater. The theater itself is small and has minimal bathrooms. I believe there are only three stalls for women, so plan ahead to get out quickly at intermission if need be. This year I saw Spamalot and Into the Woods, both of which were good productions. The actors did well; they were lively and had nice singing voices, but I sometimes struggled to hear in both productions. If I had any qualms with this theater, it would be around their punctuality. Both times I went, they delayed the start of the show by about ten minutes, to accommodate late patrons. They asked the seated audience to move into the center of their rows to make space for the people coming in late and then they waited several more minutes to begin the shows. Into the Woods is already 3 hours long so beginning the show even later to accommodate those who can't show up on time seems a bit silly to me. Despite their punctuality, I would definitely return to Aurora Fox for other shows. I had a great time with family, enjoying great shows at affordable prices. read more

I have 2 more shows under my belt and I can't say enough good things about The Aurora Fox. We saw Beets, which was written by a local playwrite. It is about POW's that were housed in Colorado during WWII and worked on the sugarbeet farms. It was shown in their small theater and it was the perfect setting for this intimate, heartfelt play. Excellent cast and just the right amount of drama and humor. We also saw Big Fish and it was a beautiful performance! I saw the movie and didn't care for it much but the show was awesome! The cast was so well chosen and made me feel every emotion without broadcasting the point ahead of time. They allowed the audience to find things out and grow along with the main character's son. My family and I have come here for a few shows now. We enjoy coming and are always entertained. The set and visual effects are impressive, I will be honest and say I wasn't expecting much when we first came. But I am consistently impressed with the visual effects during the shows. The actors are also very good. There is a couple who I see in almost all the shows that I am a fan of. We most recently saw the "Sleepy Hollow" night showing which I would recommend. Four stars only because we usually book large parties. My mom will buy 10-15 tickets so that a lot of extended family can all attend together, and the last couple times we have been told we couldn't all sit in a group together when she had already made arrangements to do so. So that's disappointing that that keeps happening...but we still enjoy the show. Just, scattered. Also, when we first arrived we tried to buy some water and they said they didn't have any. I can't believe that in all the time I've lived in Denver I haven't made it out to this place - it is so much fun! The theater is small, which is a nice change from the bigger DCPA spaces. We went to see Porgy and Bess and the troupe was fantastically energetic, engaging, and sang beautifully. I was also pleasantly surprised to see a jazz band at the back of the stage - the production value is very high considering that the tickets were pretty inexpensive. This is a great place for a night out, we will be back!!! read more

I went to see "The Wedding Singer" last night at the Fox and it was great fun. The whole show is a throwback to the '80's replete with big-haired women, briefcase-sized cell phones, skinny ties, vans, and even Fox favorite Robert Michael Sanders doing the winged 'do from that lead singer of A Flock of Seagulls. I never saw the movie--don't really care too much for Adam Sandler films--but Ben Dicke played the lead role with a more toned-down, relaxed, John Cusack approach (a true '80's actor in the film lexicon of fame) and with Brianna Firestone playing the adorable love interest, it was a very satisfying and sweet evening of reliving a decade close to my heart. Each of the solid and confident cast members was having a good time and I can't help but think that one thing that was going on in their heads was "Hey, I'm dancing to Mandy Moore's choreography!"--and having a blast doing so. So even if you didn't grow up in the '80's, rest assured you'll have a good time. The pre-show (as was the elaborate set) was creatively concocted by Charlie Packard and company, and consisted of a screen projecting videos from the golden age of MTV: Pat Benetar looking like she's 30 and getting kicked out of her parent's house--"We are strong!....Love is a battlefield...!"--riiight--and everybody Wang Chung-ing tonight. (Whatever happened to them?) At intermission, a view of Tears for Fears' "Shout" prompted a woman sitting near me to say, "I can't remember the last time I saw a music video!" I was struck with the same feeling: so many things that were so important to me back then, and now I can't even remember why. Nevertheless, I always enjoy coming to the Aurora Fox. I used to go to movies there as a kid and the last movie I saw there was in 1979 when my entire 9th grade class came to see "Romeo & Juliet". Three years later, the theater had a big fire that closed the place down. How great it is to come back here for "The Wedding Singer" and relive some of that time for one night--and quickly forget it--especially during the encore of the show when the cast sang a quick medley of the songs I grew up with and sang with all my friends in my 1976 Ford Maverick. "Go ahead and JUMP!" I may come see the show again later in the run. There's talk at work of a group of us going and dressing up '80's style. I must admit, I know exactly where my skinny tie is and you can bet that I'll be wearing it. read more

The Aurora Fox Arts Center is an amazing gem of a theatre company in the center of all the action that is old downtown Aurora. Last night my partner and I went to see K2 at the Studio Theatre and it was amazing. What an incredible story, told honestly and vividly by William Hahn and Jude Moran. The huge set that brought us to a ledge near the top of K2 was amazing. All around a great evening. Runs through April 3. read more

We have only attended the Aurora Fox one time but it was less than ideal. We had found it by an internet search, just looking for something to do while staying in Denver. The theatre was cute and the staff were friendly, but unfortunately we were startled at the hostility of the play's content. We had gone to see "Twist Your Dickens" which was a little off color, but not bad and very funny. Then, after the intermission, there was a scene where the characters are all dressed up like the old Peanuts characters by Charles Shultz. Remember the sweet little cartoon? Well, Linus starts to tell Charley Brown the real meaning of Christmas and suddenly, the rest of the characters start yelling at him and moving towards him with physical hostility. Supposedly, when the angel in the Biblical story hails the shepherds with words of peace and good will from God, this is offensive and Linus needs to shut his trap! It took a weird turn at that moment, and while my husband and I are fun loving people who enjoy theater, we are Christians and I can guarantee you that the Aurora Fox would never have hosted a play with such hostility towards people of Islamic faith or Buddhism. It was so hostile, we walked out. Its too bad, it seemed like a nice little place, and we only live an hour away, but we will not be back. read more

Saw The Wedding Singer on opening night. Had a wonderful time. My husband and I had more fun than at shows for 5x the price (or more). For around $20 on a Friday night and $3 Wine/Beer in NorthEast Aurora, it doesn't get better than this. The Fox has been putting on smart, visually beautiful entertainment for years, and the past couple of years they have reached new levels. Their October play, a regional premier of Ray Bradbury's "Something Wicked This Way Comes" should absolutely be part of your Halloween entertainment. It's an evening of mind-blowing theatre: Carousels that steal souls, childhood innocence and the wisdom of age joining together to confront Evil, the healing power of laughter. The Fox did a visually stunning job of presenting Ray Bradbury's dreamlike play. The technical stunts in the play were magnificent: jaw-dropping water tricks, a visually stunning carousel with fantastic headgear and shimmery diaphonous costumes, carnival freaks and geeks, elegant aerialists drifting over the stage, fire and water, thunder and darkness - awesome! Brilliant lead performances by Holloway and the dust witch, brilliant supporting performances by the bearded lady and the fire eater, all bringing such emotional force to their roles. My husband and I have seen a ton of shows at this theater over the past few years. Some were run by Ignite Theater, some by the Fox, others by Phamaly. It's really been a mix and we usually really enjoy ourselves! The theaters here are small and intimate, which results in some stunning interaction between the audience and the stage. Shows tend to be a little edgier than the ones shown downtown at the DCPA, not to mention that the tickets are WAY cheaper. Some of our favorite shows have been "Blood, Bloody Andrew Jackson," "Good Television," "Avenue Q," and "Xanadu." They are always trying something new, so it is worth keeping an eye on their schedule every year. Obviously, not every show is a stunner, but for these prices, it is still a good night out. read more

Roller-skating rock goddesses and a tight-shorted tenor make for a raucous evening at The Aurora Fox. The regional premiere of Xanadu is more than a simple eighties retrospective. Running March 2 through April 1, the musical comedy is cheesy, but brilliant. Based on the 1980 film starring Olivia Newton John, Xanadu takes a huge step away from its roots in a really exciting way. One does not go into Xanadu expecting to be entertained for the right reasons, but the reworking results in a show worth seeing. Douglas Carter Beane's writing makes the best of the film's clichés, but The Fox cast puts it over the top. The storyline, a naïve young artist who falls in love with a Greek muse, is thin at best, perhaps one of the reasons the film was such a failure. Throw in a real estate tycoon and conniving demigods and the plot doesn't get much better. The life raft for the stage musical is the edgy humor, often at the expense of the film. Cultural jive talk in conjunction with post-disco pop music creates the kind of feel good show which lifts you up, even as high as Mount Olympus. A unique perspective is offered to a few brave souls willing to watch the performance onstage. From the point of view of someone who generally frowns on audience participation, I have to admit, the choice to sit onstage was not a mistake. If you have the opportunity to book stage seats for Xanadu, do it! One does miss a bit of the action, as it is sometimes difficult to absorb the entirety of a particular scene having to shift focus from one actor to another. What makes this perspective worthwhile is watching the actors practice their craft at point-blank range; it is almost cinematic. You get a rare look at the nuance of facial expression which can often be missed from the house. It is a tribute to Piper Arpan that the choreography is just as interesting onstage as it must be from the audience. One does occasionally miss a bit of the song text onstage. A few times the harmonies are not as tight as they could be, but then a number like "Don't Walk Away" comes along and those week spots are easily forgiven. There is nothing more enthralling than a well choreographed, melodically riveting group number. Though the cast works fantastically well as a collective, the solo performances are what give this production its sparkle. Andrew Diessner (Sonny) is somehow so convincingly sweet that Sonny's laughable artistic conundrum becomes believable. And Amy Board (Kira) handles the show's implicit sarcasm so nimbly. I was particularly caught up in the chemistry Board and Diessner share and their ability to walk the line between corny and tender. The space at The Fox is well-used. One would think four couches with up to sixteen audience members, and nine actors occupying a stage at once could get a bit crowded; however, with the addition of a few skate ramps and a thrust, the intimacy actually works in the production's favor. The couches, and respective audience members, give the cast a lot to play around with which reads well in the house. For a show intent on not taking itself too seriously, there have to be opportunities for the cast to play. To this end, I feel the ramps and poles could have been utilized more often. The technical show-stopper is a beautiful white aerial silk used in "Suspended in Time." It is a powerful metaphor for a show with so little depth. But don't worry, the number gives way to a lighter side soon enough, making way for a disco ball, Mylar, and gold lame, a feast of color and light, a vibrant close to very fun production. This oversimplified story makes one wonder why it is so engaging. Perhaps because sarcasm is built in, because it assumes the inevitable insult and throws it back at the audience, does the plot not annoy or patronize. In essence it is delightful. read more

Saw Dreamgirls tonight, the actors were wonderful, Effie hit all of the right notes, and CC had a great voice! Why the 1 star rating...not for the performance, but for the venue! We sat in our assigned seats only to have two random pre-teen girls talking, kicking our chairs, and rustling candy wrappers while their parents sat in their assigned seats...away from their annoying children! Now we know how parents 'believe' their angelic children would do no wrong...Well then have them sit in their assigned seats with YOU! If this is typical of this venue, please let me know...so I can go to a theater whose patrons want to listen...not a theater who calls the back rows a babysitter! read more

Didn't even know about this venue until I saw the listing for "Spamalot", and since I've been a fan of the movie on which it is based since 932 A.D., decided to drive "all the way across town" from Lakewood. I found a nicely restored classic building in a neighborhood which is somewhat gentrified. Clean surroundings outside, inside likewise clean and in good repair. Lavish spread of free snacks (mostly based on different ways to prepare Spam, but also cookies, chips, and other similar items) as well as a coupon for a free drink (champagne, beer or soft drink). What really impressed me was the professional quality show put on by our community theatre troupe. Every aspect of the show was well done, including the music, costumes, lighting, props and the obvious talent of the actors in delivering their lines, singing, or dancing. I can hardly think how the show could have been improved. The show was two acts of an hour each, with a 15 minute intermission, and I enjoyed every moment of the performance. Big kudos to the staff of the theatre and again to the actors who appeared on stage. I will definitely be watching for other shows to attend here. read more

Went to see The Color Purple last weekend and absolutely enjoyed it. The performers were amazing, extremely talented and put on an awesome show. The theatre was good. Ladies room could use a few more stalls but other than that it was great. Would definitely go again. read more
