I won a pair of tickets to see Divas De Las Muertas take on The Glamazons through Aurora 88s and Yelp Chicago Burbs. Sarah S joined us and we had a great time. I really hope this catches on and continues to expand. I'd really like to see them in a larger venue with stadium seating. Tickets were priced at $10 for adults and I think it was $5 for kids. I love the Aurora 88s and hope to see more of them soon. I've had the chance to talk to these hardcore hotties and they are some pretty awesome women who are very dedicated to this sport. I'm kinda with John S on this. I was expecting so much more from this roller derby and got a lot less. The arena was blazing hot, we sat on folding chairs and the girls just kinda bumped into each other. Totally not what I was expecting. Where's the action? People seemed to enjoy it but I just could not get into it. This was the first sporting event where I just walked out. I tried and I just couldn't watch anymore. I feel bad because the girls are really trying to promote the sport. I guess the piece of advice is don't expect the '80s/'90s version of roller derby where people are flipping over, getting checked, etc. You will be really disappointed. read more

Really hate to rag on this but can't see the attraction to the Aurora 88's roller derby. Went here with a living social coupon and got bored really fast. It wasn't even hot outside but it was a pressure cooker inside the roller rink. I kept waiting on the excitement to start and nothing. Maybe I was expecting the 80's roller derbies that were on tv where people get pushed against walls and stuff... That doesn't happen here... The 50/50 raffle was the highlight of the night so I guess I will give them a star for that. Otherwise nothing to see here. read more

Not too shabby. Didn't know what to expect when I said that I'd go, but was not disappointed. Love the throwback of the rink and then the action was fun too. I'd reccommend going for sure. At least once just to say you did or to experience something out of the ordinary. read more

This roller derby was definitely fun for all ages. I guess my problem is that I've been spoiled. I've been to two other roller derbies: a "professional" derby at Universal Studios in Florida which was staged, and an amateur match in Arizona which was amazing. The action was very slow and drawn out, and the seating wasn't the most comfortable. It's $12 for adults at the door and $10 if you purchase ahead of time, and a portion of the proceeds went to a charity, which I thought was very commendable. Seniors and children prices are a bit lower. The price of concessions was very reasonable. It cost us under $10 for two hot dogs, a corn dog, bosco sticks and a large drink. All-in-all, I enjoyed myself and would recommend going to my friends. read more

Love the Aurora 88s! What a great way to promote women athletes at any size and age. And I don't know Theresa C. and John S., Yes the rink gets hot, but what can ya do, nor what can the 88s do when it's not their building but the Aurora Skate Centers. I'm sure if those skaters could get better air conditioning they would, because they had to skate in that heat let alone sit there, so I sympathizes with them on this, and also was in awe in how they could endure the heat and the hits at the same time...wow!!! Tough ladies for sure! As far as the 70s/80s roller derby, this is much better, with real strategy, and real hits, none of that fake staged stuff like back in the day. This is skill and strategy at it's rawest. To everyone!!! I definitely encourage the whole family to go. Kids under $12 get in for free. read more

1st of all the prices were way to high for the services they offer. It was $24 dollars for a friend and I to skate. 2nd, not only was the staff very rude and unprofessional but one of the ladies responsible for renting the roller blades said the f word with a no older than 6 year old kid present. Overall the staff was very crabby and rude but It was a waste of money. Very disappointed. read more
