Lucy’s Luxury Pet Spa - Tantor with my daughter

Lucy’s Luxury Pet Spa

While I have not yet done a full bath/groom at Lucy's, I recently moved to the area and dropped in…read moretoday for a walk-in nail grinding on my lab/pittie mix, Marnie. The nice groomer (I think Lucy? but I'm terrible with faces and names!) was able to fit her in quickly and did a quick, great-looking nail clip/nail grinding. I was grateful for the jar of cookies right by the door to bribe my pup with, and I was excited to see a "Fear Free Groomer" decal on the bulletin board. It's hard to find pet professionals who follow the Force Free/Fear Free movement!

I booked a grooming appointment at Lucy's for 2:30 PM. Due to a last-minute work emergency, I…read morecalled ahead to ask if I could drop my dog off 15 minutes early. I made it clear I was not asking for early grooming--simply for him to sit safely in a holding area or kennel until his scheduled time. Instead of a simple "yes" or "no," I was met with an extraordinarily argumentative response. The owner lectured me on why arriving 15 minutes early was unacceptable, claiming that sitting in a kennel prior to a session would ruin my dog's experience. This made little sense given that my dog is a 10-year-old senior pet who has been groomed peacefully his entire life. She then made a strange comparison to human hair appointments, asking what I would expect if I showed up 15 minutes early for my own haircut. As a human, I would expect to wait quietly in the waiting room until my appointment time--which is all I was asking my dog to do in a kennel. She even went so far as to claim she would have to "babysit" him while he waited in the kennel. When I repeatedly asked what my actual options were, the hostility only continued. Given that she said that first-time check-ins naturally require extra time for intake and paperwork, arriving slightly early should have been a non-issue. I spoke with a friend who is also a veterinarian afterward, who explained that dogs naturally experience a brief spike in physiological stress markers during travel and arrival, and that sitting quietly in a crate for 15 minutes actually gives an experienced senior dog a chance to decompress before being handled. For an establishment that markets itself around a "luxury" experience, I found the customer service was surprisingly rigid, rude, and combative. I took my business to a fantastic local groomer who was kind, accommodating, and happy to help. Customer service matters, and there are far too many great options in the area to tolerate being treated this way.

Quality Grooming - Before our grooming appointment, and after Janet's appointment!

Quality Grooming

UPDATE FOR A COVID-19 WORLD:…read more Quality Grooming is back open and safely taking your pups in for a glow up! We last got our pups groomed in early March so we were lucky enough to keep our previously scheduled appointment, although this time it was run a little differently. Everyone in the shop is masked up. You can go into the building with your pup or call them when you arrive and they'll come to your car to get them. As I've mentioned in previous reviews we've got some immunocompromised folks in our family so we opted for the outside handoff. Quality Grooming staff came out masked up and scooped Oliver and Poppy up for their pampering. A few hours later we got the call that they're ready. We paid for the appointment over the phone and my husband went to go get them. He called when he arrived and they brought them out--lookin' cute, smellin' fresh, and trimmed up all fancy like. They always get a summer shave but this time we got them shaved pretty short so we wouldn't have to go in for another appointment for a few months. I'm grateful they were so accommodating. As long as we humans avoided close contact with the staff (for their protection as well) we felt comfortable bringing our pups in for their appointment. They got their summer cuts and I'm happy to report that they slept in our beds through the night for the first time in a week (they had gotten too floofy which made them get super hot in the bed) so I'm very grateful we could still bring them in. Thanks for being consistently awesome, through the good times and bad, Quality Grooming!

I have used Quality Grooming for years, and they are nothing less than awesome! Linda was super helpful when she got very old, and carefully and lovingly groomed her right up until when she passed away. I couldn't say more about how much they love dogs, how good they are with all personalities, and how professional they are.
