The views are breathtaking from start to finish, and seeing the glacier up close with Nugget Falls cascading beside it is something you won't forget. Money-saving tip: Skip the expensive excursions and take the Juneau Capital Transit bus from downtown to Dredge Lake Rd., which is the closest bus stop to Mendenhall. From there, it's about a 1.7-mile walk to the Visitor Center, followed by an easy 1.5-mile round-trip hike to Nugget Falls. The trail is well maintained and suitable for most people. The bus costs just $2 each way. Be sure to bring exact change or download the Token Transit app from the App Store to pay your fare. The bus system was easy to navigate, and we had no trouble figuring it out. In my opinion, this is one of the best values in Juneau. You get the same incredible glacier views and unforgettable experience that many people pay hundreds of dollars for on organized excursions. If you're comfortable walking a few miles, this is absolutely the way to do it!

The waterfall and glacier views looked like they were straight out of a travel book. Every step of the hike offered incredible scenery, and the views were absolutely breathtaking. It's a nice walk from the bus stop, but it's 100% worth the effort. If I had the chance, I would make this trek all over again. The unforgettable views of the waterfall, glacier, and surrounding landscape are something I'll remember for the rest of my life.

From start to finish, the crew was professional, kind, and incredibly knowledgeable--but what made this trip truly unforgettable was how they went above and beyond for my 7-year-old son. Catching a salmon in Alaska has been my boy's dream for nearly two years, ever since his uncle took him fishing in the mountains of California and he discovered the Outdoor Boys on YouTube. Yesterday, that dream came true. He hooked and reeled in his very own salmon--completely unassisted--with just a little support holding the rod. A huge shoutout to Jude, the high school student working with the charter, who showed infinite patience, kindness, and enthusiasm. He spent extra time helping my son, answering questions, encouraging him, and making him feel like a real angler. Watching my kid light up with pride was something I will remember for the rest of my life. If you're looking for a family-friendly, well-run, and genuinely caring charter company in Juneau, Chum Fun Charters is it. Thank you for helping make a little boy's dream come true. We'll both be talking about this day for a long, long time.

They tell stories of the Earth's history, shape the Earth's surface as they move and form valleys and mountains. A remnant of the last ice age cradled high in the Coast Mountains' lofty peaks, the Mendenhall Glacier, named after a noted scientist who served on the Alaska Boundary Commission, is one of many major glaciers that connect to the vast ice field in Juneau, where we arrived this morning as our second port of call. This was our first excursion given by the Norwegian cruise line. My partner and I took a tour bus to the Mendenhall Glacier from our cruise ship. It was about a 30-minute ride. The tour guide did a nice job in keeping us informed. Upon arrival, most visitors walk down to the shoreline by the lake to see this awesome spectacle at Photo Point. If one has never seen a glacier before, this is definitely worth your time.

The hike is really not that difficult. Its a pretty short day hike of around 5 miles round trip and i believe to spot we went to with the group was around 800 feet of elevation gain. I found it to be a relatively easy trail but the people in my tour group were slow and many found it to be challenging. There are some chains to help you get up some of the uneven spots. Of course as with any hike be prepared, have water, snacks, good shoes. I would definitely come back here in the future but I would want to finish the hike all the way up to the top. Did not really see anyone else out on the trail other than our tour group. This was a weds morning.

Hearing the cracking boom of a glacier calving, spying seals resting on icebergs, and watching the eagles soar overhead was simply amazing. And of course, flotillas of adorable sea otters were in abundance. The National Park Service rangers boarded the ship early in the morning, and held programs all throughout the day while the ship was in the park's waters. They also have the NPS park cancellation stamp and a small gift shop area set up. The rangers were quite knowledgeable and truly seemed like they loved their jobs. I guess you have to be if you're stationed here all season! One of the perks that they get is being able to eat as much as they want from the cruise ship dining.

We made a scenic stop at the Margerie Glacier, then on to Glacier Bay. Margerie Glacier is a 21-mile long glacier situated along 12,000+ foot tall Mount Root. It is one of the park's most stable glaciers, neither receding nor advancing over the last several years. Lamplugh Glacier was so different with its deep blue ice contrasting sharply with the dark rock of the surrounding cliffs. We were told that the color comes from ice so densely being compressed that it absorbs all wavelengths of light except blue. The park's glaciers are spread across 3.3 million acres, and many are visible along the shores of the bay itself. Margerie Glacier and Grand Pacific Glacier, both located at the head of Tarr Inlet, are among the most notable, often showcasing dramatic calving events. There's nothing quite like the thunderous roar of a calving tidewater glacier to remind you of the mightiness of nature. Unfortunately, we did not get to witness this on our trip. We spent an entire day at the glaciers. We were in awe of the towering mountains, icebergs, and majestic glaciers stretching as far as the eye could see. When God created this part of the country, he made it magnificent. It was so thrilling to experience this from the deck of the Queen Elizabeth. To be able to see the icebergs floating in the water, the seals on the icebergs, and mountain goats on the mountains. We were also struck by the beautiful shade of blue of the water. What also was exciting was to have the Park Rangers giving us a live commentary on what we were seeing. They provided us with insights into the park's ecology and history, enhancing the overall experience.
