During my initial call Ms. Schaufele seemed interested in my situation, which by that point had gotten severe over the last two months. I was barely able to function and desperate for help. I needed a qualified practitioner and herbalist locally, since I'd moved from out of state and left my excellent acupuncturist behind. Here's what happened: I invested in a two-week wait to see this person and could have likely gone elsewhere in that length of time to several practitioners if I'd known the first appointment was going to be a "teaching lesson". She talked and talked to me for almost an hour, and it wasn't until then that she finally took my pulses and read my tongue. I was so confused. Did I come for a class or a treatment? No wait, I surely came for a treatment and not to be told to get off my bioidenticals hormones and probiotics. She went on and on. At that point she said I would be charged for an hour already and would I like to pay for an hour treatment too? In the initial phone call I was not told that an intake would be $180. I would have gone elsewhere if I'd known this. When I told her that I was disappointed because one, I'd expected a treatment in that initial hour together, and two, I cannot afford almost $500 on one treatment. I truly wish I'd known all this upfront. I have been in the health care profession as well as healing arts for over 30 years and I've always had a treatment in that initial appointment from the dozens of acupuncturists I've seen. Ms. Schaufele made an excuse that first appointments have an unusually long intake. What acupuncturist does an intake for an hour?? She is practicing unethically at $180/hour and not giving a treatment, AND not being following through with what her website says about what to expect in an initial appointment. I might have let this all go but she showed no empathy for my situation, neither the extent of my illness and how it was affecting my quality of life, nor for my financial situation... I cannot work full-time due to these health issues, and can barely afford $180 for an acupuncture treatment. If I'd known I'd be paying for a "class" I would have walked the other way. Extremely disappointing and just plain wrong. Some practitioners should be watched out for and she is one. I have been a practitioner myself for over twenty-five years, and did not come to an acupuncturist to get told to get off my probiotics and bioidenticals hormones. I pay an MD for that, and pay an acupuncturist for a TCM diagnosis and a TREATMENT. All in all, if you wish to throw your money away and work with an unethical practitioner then go for it, otherwise be forewarned.
