But instead I am reminded that I need to either go online or in person to renew my tag. Because there was a change of mailing address, I did not receive my renewal notice in the mail so I knew a trip to Peach Orchard road was a coming. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. I walked in and an electronic screen asked my purpose for being there. I pressed the appropriate button and my paper ticket popped out. I sat down and listened for the next number. It was 10 in front of mind. I was not hopeful. As I sat there, I soon observed an employee whose job it appears is to answer questions and help people make the right selection when checking in. That is thoughtful. But I still anticipated a long wait. I began catching up on the local news when all of a sudden numbers were being called out over the intercom. Sometimes two at a time. In less than 20 minutes, I was seated across from someone telling her I needed to renew my tag. In less than 5 minutes I had not only renewed my tag, but updated my mailing information and phone number. Talk about efficient. I left impressed. If you live in Richmond County, this is the place to go. Trust me. *Insider's Tip -They will ask for an acceptable ID (driver's license, etc) so be sure to have it on hand.

There was an option to fill out an application online, so my question having done that was if I brought in all the documents they asked for (with a few extras on hand just in case), would everything go smoothly? And it did. I was subject to an initial greeting where my purpose for being there was verified and I took a number and got in line. In the middle of the afternoon, it was less than ten minutes before I was seen. Presenting my stuff, doing a couple of quick tests, and paying a pretty reasonable fee, I was out of there in probably less than half an hour total. Now, some people have more complicated situations, and some people clearly don't check out all the online resources before coming, but at least from my perspective it was a pretty smooth experience and the people working there seemed like they knew what they were doing.

This DMV has the process pretty streamlined for just about all your driving needs. I recently got…read moremy license here and I was in and out in about 30 min. Coming from NY, I found this to be astonishing because in NY, going to the DMV is a three to four hour ordeal. The process to get what you need starts off at one of the computer terminals where you enter. You fill out your necessary forms and you're given a number to be seen at the main counter. The whole process is very organized and painless. The info desk staff was very helpful in answering my questions and checking to make sure I had all the documentation I needed to transfer my license from another state. I would surely not hesitate to visit this location again if I require their services in the future.

From a customer service perspective, there was a lot of complexity to getting the stuff I needed done, but given that I brought all the appropriate documents, I got the help I needed. I had to take a number, but it was not a long wait, and once I made it to a counter, I was permitted to handle everything I needed in terms of getting a license and a license plate without going back in line, which took several steps and various corrections to paperwork I had worked on. I was a bit leery of whether I would be able to get it done in one go, but I was able to get all my fees paid and walked out with a license printed on the spot (none of that temporary drivers license BS) and a license plate that I will eventually trade in for a special one with a sea turtle on it. This is not a fancy location (unlike North Augusta's local government building), but as government services go, they did a pretty good job.
