Excellent staff and massage therapists! Facility is clean and peaceful. I love the dry and steam saunas!

I was staying at La Tourelle, which I loved. I came to use the steam/sauna room 2x, which is free of charge to hotel guests and was nice after going to some of the state parks when it was freezing. The rooms are basic, but perfect. Before checking out and heading home, my boyfriend and I decided to get hot stone massages. I have received many massages and this one was THE BEST. Rebekah, my masseuse, is so beyond knowledgeable. I love how she asked me what type of pressure I like, if I had any areas of concern, and explained her normal technique beforehand. She was able to get out kinks in my back and neck while also giving me a soothing, enjoyable massage. In my experience, a massage is either pleasant but doesn't do anything or tough/somewhat painful, but effective. Rebekah takes the good from both ends to have the perfect massage. She was also extremely knowledgeable about muscles and stretches I can do to help where I get tight. The massage felt very tailored to me and what I need which was very much appreciated. My boyfriend had the same feedback about his technician and said it was the best massage he's had too. The spa is SUPER clean and the rooms are very private and quiet. I couldn't hear any noise from any other rooms. If I lived closer, I would come again and again. Highly recommend August Moon Spa and highly, highly recommend Rebekah!! read more

We were fortunate to be able to get last minute appointments midweek. Very grateful for that!! Amazing massage by Phoenix (seriously...wow) and my daughters massage by Rowan was amazing as well (per my daughter)!! We both enjoyed the steam room and relaxation rooms also. Next time I'm in the area I would book appointments again. Highly recommend. Just so you're aware what to expect, the spa does not have fresh whole pieces of fruit (apples etc). I never really realized I counted on that, as some treatments make me feel that "slightly lightheaded feeling" at times. They do offer a menu of snacks for purchase including a cheese platter, a seeds type granola bar, granola itself, etc. The lack of fruit isn't a dealbreaker for me, lol. read more

No pictures for obvious reasons but what a lovely experience! Clean spaces, towels and quiet. I went here with a friend in Feb 2019 for a relaxing day and relax we did! When greeted, you receive a robe and flip flops/slides, both of which are very comfortable! The bathrooms/locker rooms and steam saunas are separated by gender but the relaxation rooms where there is tea, water and lounge chairs and blankets are in a shared common spaces. My friend and I didn't get any services so we stayed in one of the relaxation rooms, made a delicious fruit herbal tea and promptly fell asleep and napped for an hour. We then went into the steam sauna for a bit before finally showering and heading home. The staff were kind and I felt very comfortable there. The location is not accessible from the entrances I used with several steps leading down to the spa. I'm not sure if they have an accessible entrance so definitely call ahead. Once inside the spa, there are no steps and everything is on one level. The other great thing is that this is a women and family owned business! read more

Oh my goodness, I love this place. I usually come here once a year when I visit the family. It's always their go-to Spa and for good reason. The team is so warm and welcoming and they have nice locker rooms and changing areas to get into your robe and stay awhile. And that's actually my favorite part... staying a while. They have two rooms to relax with comfy couches, chairs, a fire place in one room and a water feature in the other....whichever calms you. You can stay as long as you'd like is my understanding. It's awesome to be able to create your own spa day. This time around I got a sports massage and it was amazing. My masseuse was so knowledgeable and really helped straighten me out. We talked about areas of concern and she really did an incredible job. Best part of the sports massage was the heat that's applied. SO. NICE. The experience is also customizable so you can choose the kind of music you want on in the room to really set the mood. If you really want to make a day of it, you can order food and eat in the lounge rooms. They have tea in there as well. Once your done, you can head back to the locker rooms for a little steam room or sauna action. You can then use their showers and products to freshen up and continue your day. No leaving all greasy with massage oil! This place really covers all of their bases to provide a great experience. I love it!! read more

This spa was a total life saver for my husband and I's BabyMoon weekend! We were in Ithaca just for the weekend as one last get-away before we become a trio. On the Saturday of that weekend, I got a call from the spa we scheduled a couple's massage with that they were canceling our appointment do to staffing. So our last big scheduled event for the weekend was out the window. I was so disappointed because we were looking forward to that so much! Especially being a pregnant woman! So I got to Yelp and started to look to see if there was any places in the area with openings. I called three places. Two said no they couldn't help and then August Moon said they could add us to a waiting list for Sunday afternoon. It was better than nothing. Also, ironically their special for the month was prenatal massages! So if we got in mine would be discounted! And our baby was due in August so this place just seemed to have all the stars aligned. Just needed to wait and see if someone canceled. Sunday morning while we were eating breakfast, I got a call that someone did! We got an appointment that afternoon and we were so happy! The masseuses were so friendly! And they did a great job. My husband loved his massage and mine was just what my pregnant back needed. It was great how accommodating they were to needing to lay on my side and everything. On the way out, we even got some fragrant spray for delivery day! I hope we come back to Ithaca sometime soon and get another couples massage! read more

This was my first time here on an overnight getaway, staying on the Ithaca Commons. I will start by saying that the stars equate to the physical appearance of the spa itself and the lack of oxygen of the "Oxygen Facial". While the property as a whole has the bones of an Inn and Spa that could be in line with Mirbeau in Skaneateles, August Moon and La Tourelle look tired .. both properties are in desperate need of a refresh. Now on to my services; As stated above, I had the Oxygen facial .. This is misleading, the oxygen facials I have had before utilize state of the art machinery that pumps oxygen and serum into the skin, this was not the case here. I had a good facial, but I would consider it a basic facial. The Facialist was very good, I can't remember her name, but was knowledgeable and I would rate her with 4.5 stars when I compare her to others I've had. The real STAR of the show (5+ stars if I could rate him higher I would) was the add-on Reflexology performed by Garth .. (an easy name to remember). This guy is a magician, I asked for firm pressure and he delivered! My feet were sore and I've had a dull ache for weeks, Garth is skilled beyond I am still pain free and singing his praises. I only wish I had the insight and time to book a full massage with him! Bottom line ... A. the place is tired and needs a refresh. B. The "Oxygen facial" is misleading, get a basic facial if you go as the facialist was good. C. Go for the massage or at least do an add-on of reflexology and ask for Garth, this guy is skilled at his craft and worth his weight in gold. read more

I had a wonderful experience at August moon. I was met by Phoenix , who is very friendly and welcoming. Lisa was my masseuse and she took her time and really listened to what I needed. The spa is spotlessly clean. I felt very safe, covid precautions are all in place. My daughter and I had hiked 7 miles through the gorges the day before. Lisa used the sore muscle oil on me and it worked like magic. All of the ingredients for the oils and lotions are locally sourced, some are even on the grounds of La Tourelle.I highly recommend you treat yourself to an afternoon massage. August Moon is a fantastic spot to celebrate a special occassion or to just treat yourself to some spa style pampering. They have a great menu of services and I have had consistently good experiences there. I love a few specific things about this spa: Their front desk staff (always so warm and welcoming, truly exceptional), Margaret (best masseuse ever), and their product line (especially the ginger scrub). I think the prices are in line with what you should expect to pay for this level of spa. While it may not be as luxe as Mirbeau, which is about an hour away from Ithaca, it's also not at that level of pricing, either. It may be a stretch to call August Moon a "deal" - but let's just say that it's fair pricing for quality services, and that I've considered what I have dropped there to be money well spent. read more

I got an underarm and Brazilian wax here. They only have one waxer but she was great! She was very professional and let me know what she was doing throughout the whole service. You are provided a robe and sandals at check in and are able to use their steam room before and after your service. Only complaint is that the left over hairs after waxing weren't tweezed out but that can be overlooked by everything else. read more

I've been going to August Moon for years, and have purchased many gift certificates for friends and family that's why about a year ago when I received a poor massage, I thought is was a fluke, and returned twice more, with each massage therapist worse than the previous. Disappointed because they've done away with 20 minute appointments, meaning I can no longer get my eyebrows waxed here. In an attempt to schedule me for a longer appointment they asked if I needed an upper lip wax. No. No I don't. But thanks anyways. On the lookout for a new place to get my eyebrows done. Will still come here for facials though. Too bad they won't do a facial and eyebrows in the same day. Something about your skin falling off... Two things. Their services are great, but their business practices are not so transparent and their customer service is terrible when you ask for transperancy about the Passports or Tranquility hour: First, in July, someone was trying to book over the phone and it was clear that they were interested in using a Passport. The front desk person was very confused about whether the person could use the Passport since they were booking a package. I was a bit confused as to why an employee would not have that information. After I was done shopping, I then inquired about the terms and conditions surrounding the passport (e.g., when are we allowed to use the $100 credit, can we transfer services from out-of-town guests who will not be in a position to have a Passport and use their credit etc.). It seemed that neither of the front desk people were very clear. One said that people used to be able to transfer services to another person's passport, but that August Moon doesn't do that anymore. Neither of them had a steady answer about the types of services the passport could be use for and then settled on full-price (where that means no packages and no tranquility hour services). Second, what is going on with tranquility hour policies? I have had tranquility hour services in the past and there is no question about getting the 20% off discount when I check out. It is always a smooth and friendly transaction. Last night I was checking out of my facial and the employee said it would be full price. This made no sense as I was trying to book a 4:30, someone called and helped me book an alternative time of 6:30 which is well within the 4-7 range. So when I was surprised and asked for an explanation their explanation was that my, "service ended after 7pm". I double checked on the website and no where on it is that a condition. The service, when booked, between 4-7 is discounted. Is this a new policy? If so, the policy itself is quite illogical. When I imagine interpreting the "Happy Hour" concept for any other establishment in the same way, the result makes no sense. It would be equivelant to requiring a person to consume their entire cocnktail or drink before the end of the official "Happy Hour" at a bar in order to get the "Happy Hour" discount. This makes no sense and I would be surprised in the population, in general, interpreted "Tranquility Hour" in that way. Being surprised by these random rules because they are not made available online, lends to a very unrelaxing check out experience and I hope that all you take away from this is that August Moon should make this information available on a sign at the desk, in a pamphlet, on the website etc. to avoid unravelling other peoples' relaxing spa days in the same way that now two of mine have been. read more

Exceptional service and Talented Professionals. The environment is warm and welcoming, felt like I was the only one there! I love the fireplace & waterfalls relaxation rooms. I enjoyed having hot tea by the fire after my service. My Pigmentation Therapy facial was performed by Marissa(?) [Sorry I left in such a relaxed state I seemed to have forgot her name!] It was stimulating and relaxing at the same time. The light neck and the scalp massage were a nice addition! She knows her craft well. I did indulge in the steam shower afterwards in the nicely appointed locker room. Picked up a few of their signature products, Milk & Honey moisturizer and the Lemongrass Ginger Spritzer, love them. I also must declare that as a Licensed Beauty Professional myself, this was one of the better spa experiences I've had and I look forward to coming back to Ithaca so I can indulge at August Moon Spa again! read more

August Moon Spa is like a little oasis - always a wonderful and peaceful experience. They have a spacious changing area complete with sauna and steam room, two amazing tranquility rooms (your choice of fire or water), and super nice staff without a lot of turnover. The prices are in line with other high-end spas in central NY, although if you can make it between 4-7 on Tues, Wed, or Thurs, they offer a 20% Tranquility Hour discount on many treatments (this has been the case for a few years, but double-check their website to be sure before you go). They incorporate a lot of local products (honey, grapes, etc.) into their treatments, and are very involved in the Ithaca community, which is an added bonus! read more

We love coming to this Spa, the tranquil rooms are exactly that, they are hard to leave. The staff is wonderful, and Laura the therapists really Loves what she does and it shows. I have had many massages before yet my body never felt so good for so long after a treatment. Laura's technique is seamless, she works thru the sensitive spots so that it is really enjoyable, deep pressure without pain, with lasting results. Go for the 80 minutes worth every penny more! Went recently and did a "Classic August Moon" 30 min massage and 20 min bath soak. The people were very nice and the facilities pleasant, clean, and relaxing. But the 30 minute massage was not great. For the amount we paid ($180 for 2 people plus a 20% gratuity), I expected a top-notch massage, but it was just not pleasant. I'm usually a fan of deep pressure, but this one was downright painful, and uneven, with more prodding and less fluid movements. The masseuse even massaged my kidneys which was incredibly painful. To be fair I told her that I liked a bit of pressure, but she was either too rough or too soft, and never really got to a sweet spot. The person I came with had a similar experience with out the roughness but felt it was a little lack-luster. The bath was ok. Both of our favorite parts of the experience were the amazing saunas (2 different kinds) and relaxing in the tea-rooms by the fireplace. Overall, it was a pretty fun and relaxing experience for a splurge, but I would say that the massage didn't exactly add to it. Overall: if you don't have much cash to spend, I would avoid the pricey massages and just enjoy the saunas and relaxation rooms with their day pass ($25?). I have not tried any of the other treatments, but the experience mad me a little wary about dropping a huge chunk of cash on them. Will be back to enjoy the saunas though! read more
