Recommended to me via word of mouth while I was visiting Zürich in late September 2016. Went on both a weekday and weekend to grab coffee and work. Auer is one of the few places in Zürich embracing third wave coffee, with wonderful single origin drip in addition to your run-of-the-mill espresso based lineup. CHF 6.50 for unlimited drip coffee is a godsend in this city.
However, the goodness doesn't end there. On weekends, Auer converts to table service for a brunch menu with 3 options. I went for the CHF 22 Power Brunch plate, which includes a chia pot, cheese, butter, jam, avocado/beetroot/arugula salad with egg, unlimited bread and fresh fruit, and unlimited drip coffee refills. Holy hell was it good. Seriously these guys give Sprüngli Cafe a run for their money at probably half the price.
Also appreciated is the fact that there is so much free space, with various couches, tables and chairs to nestle down and hunker over your laptop with free and fast WiFi.
While it's hardly a criticism, the only thing to look out for when coming here is that it is a little difficult to find from walking on the street nearby. Auer is situated in between Sihlquai and Limmatstrasse close to the Limmatplatz tram stop. The signage pointing to the shop from either street could be a little better marked. Just remember that Auer shares its building with the collaborative space Impact Hub Zürich.
An absolute must if you are in town and looking for fantastic drip coffee, brilliant weekend brunch and/or a quiet, productive space to get work done. Hats off to these guys for filling a much needed niche in quality coffee in Zürich! read more
