I don't respect auction houses that sell Nazi paraphernalia. There is nothing illegal about it, of course, but it's exceptionally icky. Even worse, at Jennifer's New Year's Day Auction they threatened to kick out any customers at the auction who filmed the Nazi items being sold (Swastika flags to be specific). This no recording rule was not in place for any other items in the auctions. Only the Nazi ones. If you're going to sell Nazi stuff. Don't try and hide it. If you're trying to hide it, which they are, there is a reason. They know it's gross behavior. read more

Jennifer's auction is the only one I try to attend every week. She's fair and honest and doesn't play any games. She just does her job and does it well. She has a lot of 'regulars' of which I'm one so it's also a bit of a social thing as well as a great place to find some deals. read more

An auction house in Carol Stream?? Wha.... Hump day just got exciting again! This place is getting 5 stars by default because I've never been to an auction before and I don't know any better. My friend, who doesn't live anywhere near CS, told me about this place because she found it online. If nothing else, a visit here is worth the experience. I actually didn't come away with anything from the auction, but had a nice time. The crowd was a little intimidating at first. I guess I didn't know what to expect when I entered this little shop filled with chairs and "stuff" laid out on tables and all around the walls. The majority of the people there were older gentlemen, resellers and some collectors. They are a friendly bunch. There were women (included bearded ladies) there that bid mostly on jewelry and dolls. I did not see anyone younger than a teenager, and there were only a few of them. Most of the people in the place look like auction veterans and they may dress and look poor, but don't let that fool you! An old table top slot machine went for $250 and someone paid $100 for snow shoes. Can't you buy new ones for less than that?? It was interesting how much some of the items on the blocks were going for. The Wednesday auction starts at 5:30p, but you can get there as early as 11:00a to view all the items. The website even has photos of all the lots so you can see if there is anything of interest. It gets pretty crowded at 5pm and all the seats may be taken by the time the first item is up for bid. It may take up to 5 hours to auction all the lots scheduled for that day, so bring water and snacks. You register and get a paper number for bidding at the window in the far right back wall. They provide you with a list containing the description and lot number. You can make notes as you walk around to see all the items. Bidding starts at $5, unless there's a reserve on the item, and falls to $2.50 if nobody wants to pay $5 for an item. You can pay for your item as soon as you win and leave if you don't want to stay until the end. PARKING: The first couple of rows are reserved for non-auction parking, be sure to read the signs. There are more parking in the back of the building and you can enter through the door in the back. There is also parking in the Village Market parking log. read more

Auctions By Jennifer serves an important niche by being the last stop on liquidation hierchary before giving your possessions away to charity. For those attempting to sell furniture, antiques, low-priced art, housewares, etc, understand that your stuff is worth MUCH less than you think. There are limitations with this operation but that is the market clearly speaking. Auctioning low-priced items is a very low margin business. Personally, I was happy to get rid of four carloads of items and not run my own garage sale. The facility itself is messy, dirty and cramped. The drop-off hours are also severely limited. Why five stars? The business serves an important segment of the market. The only other option available was to give the items away for free. From all of my experience selling used stuff and speaking to others in a similar situation, I would strongly suggesting giving the items away to the closest charity. If that is impossible, then Auctions by Jennifer is a nice alternative. read more

No stars for this business. I dropped off a plate collection of 12 plates and 12 antique glass wine glasses. Jennifer said they sold for a combined $10. Her fee was $8 so I only received $2. I should have saved them for a garage sale or given them to Treasure House. Someone is making money at the auction but it wasn't me. read more

Jennifer takes a lot of stuff for sale that the other auction houses in the area won't bother with. I really appreciate that. I could have donated some of this stuff I let go of, but I needed the cash more immediately than a tax deduction would provide. As of this review, I've used her services twice, and I'm sure I'll sell again as I continued to downsize. read more

Auctions by Jennifer is a waste of time and a total ripoff. There are people planted in the audience to jack the bid up plus there is plenty of shill bidding going on. The quality of the items are average and I have been to auction houses where I have gotten better quality items for much less money. Too much bs going here. read more

I must say that this was the dumbest thing I have ever done in my life. I was moving and had no where to store things. I also had no time to explore antique dealers. Someone at my garage sale mentioned this place. I knew the items I had were valuable, but not to the point of pennies! I would have put them in my garage sale, if I had known better. If you don't want anything for your items, don't use them unless you thing it's nothing more than Goodwill merchandise. read more

This is a great, well run auction house for general merchandise, collectibles and antiques. Items vary widely from week to week so you have to check the photos on their web site or stop in for a preview if you don't want to miss anything. The staff is friendly and helpful. The items are clean and well organized. The auctioneer is efficient and keeps things moving, yet you can easily follow the bidding. You can get a listing of the lots for $1 to make notes on and follow along with (This is not the case at most auctions, and once you get used to Jennifer's well organized auction you miss it when you attend other auctions) While this is a serious auction house, with many great items from week to week, it is also welcoming and not at all intimidating. The staff will help you find lots, they will answer questions over the phone if you can't attend and want to leave an absentee bid. If you are a casual collector, this is a great place to have fun. If you are a dealer, you will appreciate the consistent quality of her items. Check it out, you will come back over and over. read more

I deliver trailer loads of items to auction every month. This auction house is by far my favorite for small items. Jennifer has a unique and very customer friendly auction style. Most auctioneers seem to waste your time by starting requests for bids much higher than the item is worth. They then start asking for lower bids until someone actually starts to bid at a much lower price. Jennifer starts most bids at $5 which starts the bidding immediately. Bids quickly increase to a sensible selling price in most cases. This current economic climate we're in has driven the price down on many items. I would encourage people selling items not to concentrate on the individual item but rather look at the total sales of your auction items. Some items will bring less than you hope but others much more. I have found this house to be extremely honest and knowledgeable. On several occasions they have found expensive items mixed in with cheaper and have brought them to my attention. Outstanding company in my opinion. read more

Jen's auctions are definitely at the top of my list for auctions to go to. Her fees for selling and buying are more than reasonable, which is important if you both buy and sell, which I do. Jen is a professional and runs a good auction. Also, her auctions are fun to go to. I don't get to as many as I would like, but when I want to 'sell some stuff', Jen's auction is usually the only auction place I consider. True, it is a lot of the same people that go to her auctions, but that is part of what makes it fun, getting to know other people and seeing the same familiar, friendly faces. Jen doesn't like a lot of racket during her auctioning, for which I don't blame her. If the crowd gets too noisy, she just lets you know and people get a little quieter. Makes it easier for her to do her job, which she is very good at. I like Jen and I like her auctions. If you enjoy auctions, you will enjoy hers. #290 read more
