I met with Dr Cusack. She gave me a good first impression- she started singing 'Sussudio'- the song my dog is named after. When I asked about tips on training, I was told that I should enrol Sussudio into puppy training school. Explaining that I had limited funds, and again asking for some home-grown advice, she simply continued on the line of "puppy school really is the best training a dog can get". I didn't realise that vets were salespeople. In later visits to the vet, I found Dr Cusack to be condescending toward pet owners. She's highly technical in her explanations, which yes, does make me think that she knows her stuff, but if she can't deliver her point in terms understandable to those without a veterinary degree, what's the use? There only so many times you want to ask "can you dumb it down a little?" Sure, I would entrust my animal into the care of West End Vet, I'm not at all saying there are issues with incompetence. Dr Cusack and her staff are excellent with animals. You might just find yourself thinking that they're not so good with their human companions.

I love Megan (the vet here) - she is intense and neurotic but she cares about your pet probably…read moremore than you do. She is exceptionally knowledgeable and effective at her job. She is also crazy cheap. The other review isn't wrong though, her human level interaction isn't super and she can definitely leave you feeling overwhelmed and confronted (or confused if you have no medical background). With all that said she is still the best vet ever and I will never leave her (even if she has made me cry). If you can deal with her intensity and how manic she is she is well well well worth it.

We recently moved to St Lucia from interstate and needed to fill a prescription for our cat when I called the vet to organise this they got me to have my previous vet send across my cats medical history and they would call me when the medication was in stock. Almost a week later I called up chasing the medication only to be told that they always have it in stock but I could not get it because the vet was not taking new animals and he needed to see my cat before giving it to him. Now you would think that because I wasn't told this they would just say look, we can do it this once but you'll need to find another vet, but no, the manager just made excuse after excuse, blaming covid and their 17 year old nephew who was filling in on that day (like you wouldn't think to give the kid answering the phone a heads up that you aren't taking new clients? Kid if you read this, I'm sorry the adults in your life threw you under the bus and then tried to get you to call and apologise, this was their fault not yours). The manager, or anyone else there did not think to maybe called when they saw the email with my cats medical history to let me know that I needed to sort something else out, instead my cat has run out of medication. The manager told me that all vets stock this type of medication but good luck getting an appointment due to covid (which then, again, leaves you asking well can't you just sort it this one time since this is your mistake). I made one phone call and got an appointment the following day. I really hope this vet cares more for animals and has better service for customers than his admin staff because they are shocking, especially the manager, who I'd say would have been let go a long time ago had it not been a family business. I put my cat in for boarding for 3 1/2 weeks while I went overseas on holiday last July…read more The staff were fantastic in sending me regular photos of her. My cat seemed very happy when I picked her up. I had peace of mind to leave her for boarding because I could trust the vets and the nurses to feed her regularly and look after her emotionally and physically. The surgery is in such a convenient location , just off Milton Road, Toowong. I would board my cat there again.
