My previous dentist used to have the hygienists do most of the work on cleanings, so it was surprising when Dr. Yun did most of my cleaning himself. He's a very nice guy and his team is very friendly. They were able to fit me in when my front tooth chipped on the same day, and have changed their hours so that they are open late on certain evenings for those of us that work regular hours. They also consider couples and try to get my husband and I in at the same time/day so we can save the transport. They make sure that we are happy when we leave, and that the bill is taken care of properly. It's also nice that they have TV's you can control and watch while they work away on your mouth. The only thing I don't really like is the location - mostly since you have to take Deerfoot to get down there. If you live in the Douglasdale/McKenzie Towne area though, he's very handy, across Deerfoot from the power centre on 130th. Overall, I'm happy with Dr. Yun.

It'll be sooooo fun, at the end our mouth will hurt, we'll have chapped lips, and we'll get a bill for $400." - No one ever. Hands up if you like the dentist! Anyone? Anyone? No one likes going to the dentist, especially me. My Dad used to pull my teeth out with needle-nosed pliers when I was little. Incidentally, these same pliers also spent time working on the car and other odd jobs...don't worry though, he wiped them off on a rag before they went in my mouth. Oh yeah, I also have parts of my two front teeth that are fake (don't worry, his home dentistry biz couldn't handle that one). I have such a "not small" fear of the dentist that I didn't go for like 6 years. One day I realized that my fear of being 30 and having dentures is greater than my fear of the dentist so I started looking for a dentist that would be really nice to me. A co-worker recommended Downtown Dental and I phoned and told them my scary dental story and asked them if they could be extra nice to me. That was three years ago and now I go every six months. I don't like many of the dental sounds (scraping, drilling etc.) even if they are from someone else's mouth so I they suggested I bring some music to listen to. However, on the day of my appointment I forgot my ipod at home. The receptionist insisted I listen to her ipod as she knew it would help. Love it. Going to the dentist is never fun, but these guys make it as easy as possible. They also send me a birthday card each year (and it's not to remind me to book an appointment, it's just to wish me a happy birthday) - I like it. Bonus! - they've also moved into PennWest Plaza, also the location of Rise Bakery, home of Crack Bun, so you can sink your clean teeth into a cinnamon-y delight right after your appointment. If Crack Bun is part of the process, I could be persuaded to go weekly....ok, maybe not.

What a great place! I felt so welcome by every member of the staff. I had a lot of work that needed to be done. I had a few fillings and all 4 wisdom teeth extracted. Dr. Pan was amazing. That was the first time EVER a dr was able to freeze my mouth with one try. It usually takes at least 3-4 times to freeze my mouth. Thank you Dr. Pan! I was pretty worried about the extractions but again, Dr. Pan was amazing. I never doubted his ability and felt safe the whole time. During both visits Dr. Pan and the assistant constantly made sure I was comfortable and feeling ok with what was going on. Thank you so much for the experience. I'm recommending this place to all my family and friends!

Then one night I made popcorn - I chipped a back tooth and one of my cap and crowns broke and fell out. I called and left a message asking for an emergency appointment. No call back after 3 hours of the practice being open. I called once more and was told the next appointment they had available wasn't until 6 days. I went in and explained I had an emergency, where shoul I go? They told me I should go, "here". "But you have no time for 6 days," I asked, "where do you send you patients in cases of emergency?" They answered, "here". "We only recommend here." We went back and forth with this Dr. Seuss routine for a little, when I finally asked for my X-rays and went elsewhere, where they recognized I had an emergency and treated me well!

She's also quite receptive to the fact that I have anxiety, and is so communicative with me about it so that she can help me have the best experience that I possibly can, with so much understanding. She's also incredibly skilled and did an amazing job putting crowns on my front two teeth. They look even better than they did before, and everyone is always so shocked to find out that they're crowns. One time I came in because others were telling me I had really bad breath for the last couple of weeks, and she was able to help me identify that it was actually a side effect of a medication that I was on, and had nothing to do with my dental hygiene habits. Such a relief!!! She takes her time with you and always goes above and beyond to ensure that you understand any dental problems you may be experiencing, no matter how complex. She truly cares about her patients and their experience, and I've never felt like she was trying to create problems where there weren't any, in order to charge more (like I've experienced with other dentists in south Calgary). She's so warm, so engaging, and so knowledgeable, with a remarkable sense of humour. I've recommended her to all my friends and family, and they've all thanked me afterwards for helping them have the best dental experience they've ever had. :)
