But Englewood Cliffs, although payment is upfront, was willing to help talk everything through with me when I was worried about costs. They were upfront about what costs were even before I made the appointment. Right now, most vets are shut down due to COVID, so we had to wait in the parking lot while Dr. Attanasi took care of Cookie. She took a couple minutes to determine my rabbit had A dislocated hip. Not only did they talk me through the potential cost of a rabbit getting surgery, but they spoke to me about the process of surgery for a rabbit. She doesn't do the orthopedic surgery necessary for Cookie, but she was more than willing to refer us to a pet orthopedic surgeon who DID work on rabbits. Unfortunately, due to COVID and financial issues, I'm not able to afford the surgery. But Dr. Attanasi was understanding and sent us home with pain medications to help ease my bunnies pain. She didn't just look at Cookie's injured hip, but also at the overall health of Cookie. She spoke to me about her history of GI stasis and how it could be caused by her fur (Cookie is part angora/holland lop.) She recommended me to get a furminator and Cookie is now half the size now that all the dead fur is gone! Despite me following the standard recommended diet of a rabbit, Dr. Attanasi told me it seems like my rabbit had several nutrient deficiency due to the dullness of her fur. I changed my bunny to the Oxbow baby pellets she recommended, added more multivitamins, and less than a week later, have been noticing an increase in energy and her fur is shinier! Once this COVID lockdown is over, I will definitely take Cookie back to do a checkup on her hip and her overall health. I've been to 4 rabbit specialists in NJ and one in NYC, but in my opinion, Dr. Attanasi is the most affordable and thorough specialist I've seen.

The entire team was attentive, calm, and genuinely caring from the moment we walked in. I was a long-time client, and this last experience was disturbing enough that I've ended the relationship completely. In my view, this clinic is very quick to upsell and mark up fees when clients are vulnerable and under time pressure. I came in on 5/5/26 for an international health certificate and USDA endorsement for my psychiatric service dog. I sent all information up front, including that I have a documented disability and a prescription for a psychiatric service dog. Instead of handling that professionally, staff repeatedly talked to me as if I was trying to "game the system," saying things like "when people come, they bring a letter," and pushed back when I tried to preserve some privacy. Once I did provide the letter I had the entire time, the owner's first move was to try to add extra, unrelated services that were not required, and then imply she'd "mark things OK" on the certificate as if she was doing me a favor. The invoice tells its own story: $81 for the exam and $17 for medication, but then $189 for the "International Health Certificate," $238 for "USDA electronic endorsement VEHCS," and another $189 for "USDA Rabies Certificate Endorsement," for a total of $714. USDA's own fee schedule for endorsement is far lower than what they labeled as "USDA" endorsement charges, and they had already added a separate clinic fee for their services. In my opinion, that is an outrageous markup of what are presented as federal endorsement costs, especially when a disabled client is relying on them to follow the rules. The endorsement itself was processed by the USDA the same day it was submitted on 5/5. I did not hear anything from the clinic on 5/6 or 5/7 -- no proactive update, no documents, and no word about the "refund" they had told me I might receive depending on what USDA charged. I had to chase them for basic information and for copies of documents that I needed, regardless of any fee dispute. Only after I escalated did I get a voicemail from the owner claiming they had been "disputing with USDA," which had never been communicated earlier. The office manager also tried to tell me the VEHCS system "asks for a letter" as if that justified their resistance, when in reality the system requires the vet to answer whether the dog is a service animal and what tasks it's trained to do. I've seen the system myself. The way they handled this felt less like a good-faith attempt to follow federal rules and more like protecting their markup. This isn't a one-off. When my previous elderly dog was seen shortly before she passed, I was presented with a workup of bloodwork, X‑rays, and other tests around $1,000, and then given a verbal cancer diagnosis almost immediately after the X‑rays, before blood results could reasonably have been reviewed. I never received a call with those blood results. Even though the same owner accommodated me when I couldn't be present for euthanasia, none of that history translated into any sensitivity or accommodation this time around. To be clear, I'm willing to pay for the actual exam and medication. I've disputed the remaining $616 in certificate/"USDA" charges with my bank and will take it to small claims court if I have to. In my view, this clinic mishandled a straightforward request, overcharged heavily for endorsement-related items, and treated a disabled client as if they were trying to get away with something instead of providing clear, honest service. I've since moved to a different vet who was able to handle the paperwork promptly and transparently. I would recommend anyone with a disability, a service animal, or international travel needs to think very carefully before trusting Inwood Animal Clinic with critical paperwork or relying on them for clear, upfront pricing.

Although I am a physician I am not familiar with this procedure in canines, but apparently open incisions are used to cut into the bladder for stone removal. My. Baby girl was discharged in howling pain, which was traumatic for my sister who had retrieved her. She had to return her to demand appropriate pain management for the dog as she was only given gabapentin and Rimadyl (doggie Advil). Even women who have cesarean sections are given strong analgesia for at least 3 days postoperatively. My baby suffered for days. I called the office the following day to get information regarding her diet going forward, as bladder stones can definitely recur. Not only was I not given any information, but I was merely switched to another person who just asked for my financials to make payment for the "extra (much needed) meds." I was given a generic receipt, so my insurance denied the payment, and I was NEVER given the invoice for the surgery, which was almost 3k and paid in full up front. I sent an email requesting the invoice, and to date they refused to respond, so I will not be able to submit for the reimbursement. When my son called the office he was told that they "didn't know" about the insurance- even though it is on file. Although they claim they will submit, I don't have much faith that they will. Further, why was this not handled from the beginning before they tortured my baby? If a human patient is treated this way there are patient advocates & lawyers promptly involved. I guess things are different in Veterinary Medicine.... But animals deserve compassionate care, too. Some people love their pets more than their spouses. In addition, pet parents should be counseled regarding the operative course, what to expect, and how to manage their pets post-operatively at home. My family, and especially my dog, were traumatized by this experience. This vet got good reviews on Yelp for some reason; maybe they are acceptable for routine well care visits and minor illnesses. But if you have a pet with serious illness or require invasive or surgical intervention I encourage you to seek another Veterinary practice.

Why Instagram, rather than the uber-popular, super visible adoption options in the city that come up on Google? Because A. I specifically wanted kittens and the big shelters I went to didn't have any. B. Because all the ultra-cool hip rescue organizations require you to practically sign away your firstborn child in order to adopt. I understand that they want to find the perfect adopter because it's in the best interest of the animal, but I see people bragging about their 2-page essays that accompany their applications because they're such A+ adopters. And hey, just because they want to assign "Exhibit As and Bs photos of their home life," high school English teacher references and SAT add-ons, doesn't mean that should set the standard. Holland from Cat Castle was warm, friendly and helpful when I reached out to her; the friendliest out of EVERY place I had looked into! I told her which kittens I was interested in, filled out the application, and she delivered my sweet boys to my apartment! She even came back to pick them up to take them to get neutered before delivering them back to me! I loved her energy and I love how she and Max have the knowledge to treat some of their rescues in their own home making some vet visits avoidable! While other pet rescues have an almost snooty demeanor about their approval process, I love how down-to-earth Cat Castle is and their non-discriminatory application process. And I'm so happy I was able to support a small, up-and-coming, NYC non-profit that truly cares for animals and wants to match them with potential adopters without being judgy about it. I 100% recommend them to anyone looking to adopt! ^_^
