Normally at that point of the drive, it's early afternoon on Saturday or Sunday, so I often hear the same DJs or at least the same shows that have been hosted by different DJs--college students, I assume. The music can be good, bad, or totally random, especially how the songs are juxtaposed. That's the beauty of true college radio, and I don't begrudge them their poor taste or lack of knowledge of seminal bands from the '80s and '90s--and yes, I know that they were born in the 2000s, but I was born in the late '70s and I still knew from a young age who Elvis, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and many of the Motown artists were. What does bother me about this station--and something ugly about true college radio--is how much dead air there is. It's not just too much time between songs or occasionally hearing hot-mic incidents; it's a more regular thing, and I've heard the same DJs apologize for the same issue over and over. Again, I get it that these are (mostly) college kids who are learning a skill, but they should be better, which leads me to believe there's very little to no engineering help for the DJs. There's also too much advertising, but I can't single KZSC out for that, and some of the hyper-local ads are funny. I'm glad it's my audio companion for at least part of my regular trips to SoCal, but it could be better. And they need more shows devoted to music.

My musical emasculation started in fine form. Celine Dion belting out whatever song it was. Follow it up with a slow Gloria Estefan or whatever group that was, and my testicles had begun to recede into my body. This could make my physical quite interesting. Saved by a commercial break, then a song that took me back to my first semester at college. To the first woman to ever play handball with my heart.(But not the last.....sigh...) Lo-I have been jaded. Ah, to go back in time and slap myself in the back of the neck, I think to myself. The song ends. And yes. Cue the Cher. If I could turn back time. Put her in a slutty outfit and have her straddle some guns on a naval vessel. Kudos, cosmic arbiter of irony. Kudos. Some other thoughts: If I never hear Atlantic star again, that's cool. "She's like the wind." ...so she blows? Awesome. Not a bad station overall. Just not for me.

We're sadly disappointed at your decision to change your musical format from classical…read more Perhaps in your decision making, you did not realize the extent of your listener base which includes the highly affluent in Pebble Beach and Carmel, to the scholarly university, college and academia of the Central Coast. These people are the ones who would patronize your sponsors. The younger set listen to IPods and satellite stations. Having the classical station served another group of listeners who are not tech minded. KBOQ was unique, and had class. Now, it is just another station that will have much competition.
