    Stark Appliance Service

    Stark Appliance Service

This is the 2nd time I've used these guys & THEY ARE GREAT!!…read more They come on time, diagnose immediately & have most things for repair in their truck. They're set up for CC so it's fast & friendly. The compressor on my new frig was under warranty so house call was free. This time it was the water drain. So much for a service-free Whirlpool!

I figured since the tech was coming over for the dishwasher and me being lazy he could fix the door cam on a refrigerator. The door cam was a "previous issue" and was fixed by Stark under Whirlpools warranty (since expired) in the past, so I knew exactly what the problem was and what part was needed to be replaced. Stark's, Co-owner, Mike came over and I explained the issues to him and I left for work. While I was at work Mike diagnosed the dishwasher as needing a pump. He then proceeded to tighten the door cam on the refrigerator and tighten a screw on the door handle. (As written by him on the receipt for service performed). The dishwasher was put on hold for the pump to be ordered. Upon returning home I immediately checked on the refrigerator door. As soon as I opened it I could tell the issue was not corrected. We called him back and he returned approx...Two days later. I told him again what the issue was and he re-inspected it and said, "Oh, I see it now". He replaced the door cam and then proceeded to write out a bill for the part. I explained to him that I should not be receiving a bill for anything for what I paid him to fix the door and diagnose the dishwasher which came to $178.71 It was explained to me that I was charged $135.73 ($80.00 diagnosis fee, $47.00 for labor, $8.73 tax) to diagnose/fix the fridge door and $40 to diagnose the bad pump on the dishwasher. I told him what the issue with the door was and he charged me anyway to diagnose it even when he didn't fix it correctly. I figured the fixing of the door cam was bonus work for him on top of the work I wanted performed on the dishwasher. I understand people have to make money and I have no issues with paying for the door to be fixed, but no way was it worth $135.73. The Door and Diagnoses bill ($178.71) was on top of the estimated bill of $180.23 to fix the pump on the dishwasher, ($74.99 pump, $93.65 labor, 11.59 tax), totaling $358.94, is WAYYY to much. Also, pump price is overpriced. I told him he was insane to charge me that price to fix the door by tightening two screws and not replacing a $6.00 part. His comeback was, "its seven dollars". Prior to me advising him that the door was not fixed, Mike the Co-Owner of Stark had no issue charging me $135.73 to tighten two screws and walk out the door without properly fixing the issue. This behavior is dishonestly at its finest. I then told him to forget fixing the dishwasher if this was the type of work that was to be performed. I have NO ISSUES with paying someone for HONEST and QUALITY services performed. I find the "New Owners" of Stark to be dishonest and just looking for a quick buck. When I called to complain, his wife, stated that she would possibly knock off the labor charge for fixing the door. I told her to keep it and have a Merry Christmas. The "Stark" Sussex County has known for years for honest and quality service is long gone since it's been sold. It is really a shame. Also, Mike in your haste to leave, you left behind a set of hex bits at my house. You can pick them up for a storage fee of $178.71. I got away cheap, don't use them and don't let their defense reply misconstrue my complaint in any fashion.
