My 10 year old son attends core skills classes at Atomic Tae Kwon Do in Huntington. Today he had his 10th birthday party here, as Atomic Tae Kwon Do has super fun activities that keep the kids moving all while learning wonderful taekwondo skills. On top of all the amazing activities such as him getting to break confidence wooden boards, my son also got the thrill of cutting his birthday cake with a super cool kitana sword! Everyone had so much fun and this will definitely be a birthday party we will remember fondly for quite some time ! :) We are lucky to have found Atomic Tae Kwon Do for my son's twice weekly core skills classes! Group sports haven't worked out really for my son's unique needs. Dr Luiza and Master Bart are now giving him the gift of having a successful physical skills class, while giving him positive and patient guidance :) We are beyond happy and wish we had found this place years ago... Lucky for us we discovered it several months ago and are very happy here! :) Also, I as a mom attend the weekly Ladie's Club Taekwondo class. I tried it before signing my son up for his classes. My son is a student here and he absolutely loves this company. He is more respectful at home (which to be honest he was starting to not listen and talk back). He's motivated to earn new belts which in turn inspires him to act respectful and responsible at home. The pricing is a bit on the expensive side but in my eyes the experience and atmosphere is completely more than what you pay for. We originally started when I saw an add on Facebook and it was a Labor Day sale so I thought this price is too good to be true 6 sessions and a free uniform! After the 2nd class I was sold. They introduced my son to the whole class with this little cute ceremony. They also sent us a beautiful plaque that had a picture of me putting his belt on him during the ceremony. It was very welcoming and it felt almost like they were inviting me into their family. They like to include parents in the practice which I absolutely love. It shows us parents how they practice and learn so that I can teach and practice with my son at home. It's also nice for our children to see us participate cause it makes my child want to participate more as well. During practice although there is a lot of children the instructors never seem to forget any child. They spend time with each child and communicate very well in a way you learn. Master Bart, Justin, and Dr.Luiza are all very passionate people. They bring so much to the table and offer so much more than you pay for. When we involve our children in these sports it's so much more than just going to practicing in the studio it's bringing what they learn in class to their everyday life. This is an amazing martial arts school. I have been studying here for almost 7 years and it is just the best that is around. The second you walk in you can feel the warm and inviting atmosphere. The school caters to all different ages from toddlers to seniors, and there are almost always classes going around. Atomic Tae Kwon Do Center is very community driven with a great atmosphere between instructor-to-student. All the teachers are knowledgeable and always willing to teach and help. They pay personal attention to each student, and knows each student's strengths and weaknesses. The school is also Kukiwon (World Taekwondo Federation) certified, so it's a guarantee that it will be top-notch This school offers a wide variety of classes. Some classes are divided by age, others by rank, some by both. There are also late night teen/adult classes which are fantastic for serious study. Thrown in are "specialty classes" such as sparring, grappling, and the occasional weapons-based class. There are also very intense cardio-classes which are all exercise based - you get very tired but you feel like you worked out a lot! It is very easy for people of all types to find the classes they enjoy and benefit from most. ATC, unlike many other schools, does not offer some run-of-the-mill get a black belt in a year program - it requires lots of work and dedication to move up. That however doesn't mean it isn't fun. I personally enjoy every class I attend, and learn so much on a daily basis! In regards to cost all martial arts schools are very expensive, but at least at ATC you get bang-for-your-buck. The amount of material you learn is worth three times as much. Besides Tae Kwon Do, ATC also teaches weapons, along with jui-jitsu (which the head instructor, Master Bart, is also an Instructor in). It also is incredible to see how special needs children of all sorts are integrated in almost all classes. They are paid extra attention to and the benefits they get are monumental. Tae Kwon Do here is not viewed solely as an art, or as self-defense, it is a combination of both. Throughout coming here I have not only improved my body, but I have also jumped up my GPA in high school, and have learned a lot of incredible self-defense. We started at Atomic Tae Kwon Do 3 months ago. From the beginning, our daughter was greeted by name. Our daughter is very friendly and is always excited to be around others, which can cause her to become distracted. In these few months, she has begun to focus more on the tasks, while they have fostered her development of basic gross and fine motor skills. We are very happy with the training she is receiving! In a response to an earlier comment, they recently renovated the waiting area. It is not only larger, but offers a "Quiet Zone" where parents can sit and watch the class and students can warm up before their own classes. read more

Dr. Luiza and Master Bart are great. My son is doing wonderfully and learning a lot of skills and valuable lessons.

My son has been a member for about a year and I go back and forth with my feelings. The pros are that I think most of the instructors, especially Master Bart, do care about the well-being of the kids. I have never tried another place, so I don't have much to compare it too, except what I hear from parents who send their kids to other places. They do try to to make it fun for the kids, while also being consistent. However, it is expensive, especially with all the extras. T-shirts for the summer are $20, new uniforms $50, belt tests are not included ($50 for new belt). And I think when a kid is a challenge in whatever way, there are some days when they just seem to give up on him. I was told when we entered the trial within six classes, he would be better focused and a more attentive listener, but that did not happen, and he ends up getting in trouble sometimes for the very skills he is there to work on. Also, it is getting so crowded, and they do not limit class sizes, but they do add more instructors. They expanded the mat space last year, but the classes are much less personal from when I joined. Speaking to parents in the waiting room, some are very happy there, and some feel a little bamboozled. I go back and forth. They do try to foster a sense of community with events and being present in the community, but some events (Halloween party) they charge for, leaving kids who can't afford it feeling left out. They do two free special class events in the summer on Saturdays, but we are pretty busy and haven't been able to go. One thing I personally don't like - but some parents might - is the amount of marketing they encourage. In the summer, if you bring a buddy on certain days, you get extra tickets (for raffle prizes in the fall), so kids who can't bring friends sort of get penalized, and it's not really a trait that should be rewarded. Also, almost all outside contests include taking a picture and posting it to social media - who gets the most likes, and tagging their place. It's clearly just for marketing, and I kind of want to steer my children away from finding satisfaction and acceptance from social media, and I never have memory on my phone or the ability to post, so we cannot really compete. I don't care, but my child does. So, I think the marketing contests are a little insensitive and counterproductive to many things they teach. But, maybe I am outdated. I write this review as honestly as I can, because it is a big, expensive commitment. It's not true that they don't care about the kids, because I think they do, but it's very clearly a business, too. I am not sure how long we will stay....I am not looking for immediate results and I think the consistency is good for my son, and in time, the training will do him well. But right now he is missing opportunities to do other stuff, so I'm not sure if it's a good fit. We'll stay a little longer. But it is a good fit for some families there. Good luck! read more

If you see any positive reviews for this school, beware, they were probably written by the owners. I know many parents who take their children to this martial arts school, myself included, most are unhappy. When you sing up, you are promised the stars and the moon, you get little to nothing. This school is soley interested in money. They constantly try and entice the children with their costly camps and activities during their classes - to me, that is VERY unprofessional. They teach very little, and, if you take your child to another school after this one, they are demoted due to lack of technique. The owners are not very nice. Master Bart's communication skills are, well, missing. His wife is a 'good talker' but an under-producer. The waiting room is like Romper Room. It's dangerous and, frankly, very annoying. The children are permitted to run wild and nothing is ever said. I even saw a little girl who was practicing her GYMNASTICS in the waiting area fall and need stitches. A word to the wise for the after school program, there is NO SUPERVISION. I'm in a battle right now trying to get back the money they charged even though I submitted the appropriate paperwork to cancel. I left a message and called the financial institution they use - have not heard back. read more

I cannot rave enough about this tight knit school! The owners, Dr. Luiza and Master Bart, cannot have been (and continue to be) more patient and accommodating with my daughter, who has separation and transitional issues. They took time to talk me through her issues over the phone and insisted on a private class to make her more comfortable until she became acclimated again after the winter break. They are loving, kind and more importantly compassionate. In some situations, we feel as though our child is difficult. Her behavior is sometimes hard to manage. But on the mat, she is encouraged and made to feel like she's doing just fine. That is reinforced after every single class when Master Bart comes to speak to each parent and let them know exactly how their child did for that particular session. It means the world to us as parents to see people care for her and nurture her, but by being equally as firm. We have been going here for a few years. Overall experience has been above average. School is big and schedule has a variety of good stuff for the kids. Sparring, etc.. The contract can be confusing to understand because a 3rd party does the billing. My kids continue to enjoy it. The one thing we do like is that it is the overall experience. It is not just trying to get our 6 and 8 yr old to be a black belt. (that will probably never happen). The school is clean, the techniques they use to teach the children are amazing and I can't say enough wonderful things about the instructors Master Bart and Dr. Luiza. They are loving and caring as they are firm with the children. They look at each child individually and help them achieve there goals in life on and off the mat. As a parent of a special needs child, I have seen improvement in my daughters focus, her strength and her confidence not only on the mat, but how it's helping her succeed in school as well.
