Atmos Energy (ATO) has a total net worth (market capitalization) of approximately $28.43 billion. I am submitting a formal complaint regarding an unacceptable delay in utility reconnection and poor management response. My service was shut off on September 3, and I paid the $300.00 balance immediately that day. I was told service could not be restored until after the Labor day holiday of September 8, ! leaving my household without heat for six days. Because I have two children in the home, I escalated the issue to a customer service manager, Lisa, to request an emergency restoration. The manager was dismissive and flatly refused to assist. Leaving a family with children without heating for nearly a week after full payment is a severe safety concern. If there was a zero star option , i would submit that . read more

As expected, most people who give their 2 cents either do it based off of one bad (or good) experience or they live in a fantasy world. For most part, Atmos has been consistently okay. No gas leaks and blackouts whatsoever that I can recall. I will say that, as with many other utilities as well, the window they provide is ridiculous when they do need to come do work. Most recent one I got was a 3 day window between 8am to 4pm indicating someone must be present when they come and shut off our meter. I wonder whomever typed and sent that out noticed how ridiculous that was. So you're gonna tell me that I need to take 3 days of PTO and wait during those times? No no. The right thing to do is give exact time and date so we can plan accordingly. Oh and here's the kicker. Nobody even showed up when they came. And when you call customer service, they have no idea what's going on. read more

We received a extremely high gas bill in August. We have gas & electric. I scheduled an appointment with atmos (Pamela) for a tech reader to come out & re-read our meter. After over two weeks of no one showing up, I called atmos customer again was told by (Julie) that my appointment had been canceled without notification to us by atmos because of shortage of meter readers. Smh... I see there trucks everywhere usually doing absolutely nothing!!!! I then rescheduled yet another appointment Monday to escalate the appointment for today between 8-12p. At 10:56a I received an automated phone call from atmos that a meter reader would arrive in 60-90 minutes. Needless to say, @ 4:20p, no one STILL had not showed up. When we called atmos for a 3rd time, (Gibby) stated that the alleged tech said he came by our house @ 11a & left a note on our door. We told her that we have cameras & that he is a damn lier because he never came to read our meter or leave a note. Lies!!! I am so tired of a company that is worth over 28 billion dollars of our consumer dollars, not do their jobs & hold their sorry, lying employees accountable. A monopoly of crooks! We're going to file an official complaint against this company. We missed a day of work for nothing & I do not appreciate atmos waiting our time and money. Not to mention we're going on two months of an unresolved issue. They charge consumers a monthly to come out & address issues or concerns yet they NEVER show up. It would be nice to remove them as a company. They're worthless & untrustworthy!!! read more

This is the worst gas company. Cut off your gas without notice because the came to your residence and changed your meter. Scheduled several appointments, 3hrs later today and a technician still hasn't showed and and they can't camt give an estimated time. This has been going on for 3 days. We will be using a new energy company. Absolutely the worst. read more

They turned off our tenants gas without notice. When we called to schedule a technician to come out they refuse to give an estimated time of arrival and they do NOT call when they are on the way. Now forced to leave work and sit in my car for hours just to make sure the tenant isn't screwed. Billion dollar company that can't at least give notice the technician is on the way. Horrible experience every time I've dealt with them. read more

Atmos Energy has been consistently disappointing. Their technicians are always slow, and the entire process feels completely backwards. As a customer, I'm required to be on-site the moment the technician shows up, but somehow they can shut off your gas without any notice. How does that make sense? I work in the commercial field, and there is absolutely no reason I should have to sit in a parking lot all day just to "confirm" that a technician arrived. No time window, no communication, no professional coordination. Just hours of waiting for someone who may or may not show up until they feel like it. Atmos Energy needs to seriously rethink how they operate, because this level of service is unacceptable. read more

Scumbags turned off my gas with no warning. Not a knock on the door, call, or email. They replaced the meter without any notice. The only way I found out is because my gas was off and I called in. This was at 6pm when I got home from work and was about to cook dinner. The first CS rep said she couldn't give me an ETA. The second time I called they put a request for the tech to call me with an ETA. Never happened. BS like this happens because they have a monopoly in the areas they service. This company is trash and they deserve less than the 1.4 rating they currently have. read more

I would give zero stars if Yelp allowed. I now believe this company is nothing but a bunch of crooks. I had this exact same issue a year ago where they SIGNIFICANTLY overcharged me. Back then they actually had meters and came out and confirmed a meter misread. This year, my February bill was 65% higher than January AND also 65% higher than February 2025. It was 110% higher than the deep freeze of 2021. They have installed new meters that don't require reading, so they hide behind their "new flawless system". See all the bad reviews wow ive had them for 20+ years and once the city was doing work in alley where gas meter is and managed to hit it without let anyone no you could walk outside and smell it they were Atmos was fast to replace last year i receive triple the bill than normal in winter again fast to come check things out and place updated meter after they come fixed was called back saying the meter was read wrong according to the numbers and the fixed the price to where should be i was very satisfied advice is have them flush the line to make sure accurate pressure is flowing think thats how they said it there little meter when they do will show if there issues in the line it always good to stay polite and curiosity even if you have to call more than once to get solution.js Thanks Atmos for your wonderful service for over 20+ years read more

We had nothing wrong with our service no leaks no non-paid bill and our house is fairly new 15 years or so. We had a notice on our door no contact no ringing the door bell as I am retired and my wife works from the house. We get a tag on the door and my wife saw the tech put it on the door that said they were doing maintenance and they cut our gas off. No knock on the door, no customer service call warning us and we have my son's baby for the week and sure need hot water. Thanks the most un-custumer serviced oriented company ever!!!!!! You can't pay the bill on my apple phone because because something is wrong with their stupid app that it isn't compatible with whatever, blah blah blah. So inconvenient everything about them is ridiculous. I never had gas until I moved into this house and they irritate the hell out of me. The price that I have to pay in the winter time is outrageous. It is double what I pay for electricity. I almost rather go by space heaters and have to pay them when I have to pay for gas. If I didn't have to have hot water, I would. Somebody seriously needs to get on Atmos and do something about them. I cannot afford to keep paying electricity, water, and this outrageous gas bill during the winter time and buy groceries at the same time. I don't know how they expect people to live with what they charge. It's absolutely ridiculous. read more

If you can believe it, I had a new gas leak at my home. I called Atmos because I smelled gas by the meter. They came out, fixed that leak and then found a second in the attic. It was freezing cold here and gas is how I heat my home. The technician was absolutely phenomenal. He tried very hard to locate the leak to avoid turning the gas off but unfortunately, he had to. He really went above and beyond! I wasn't able to get a plumber to fix it that night but by the next evening, it was fixed. Atmos came out and inspected. Spoke with the plumber. Turned the gas back on. (It really was cold! We had snow on the ground!) Unlike my first experience with Atmos (which no, I haven't forgotten), both reps were amazing. People were actually nice to me. If this was my first interaction, I'd give them five stars but it isn't and the first was literally awful. If this is the new Atmos, you should be commended. I really hope this is the kind of service you start giving on a consistent basis. Btw, Ty needs a raise! read more

So I called Atmos on the 16th and asked them about my bill because it seemed quite high. They said that they were sending someone to test for leaks. At this time my wife and I were out shopping and I asked if they could send someone a little later. When we arrived home, we had a yellow note on our door telling us that our gas had been shut off because they could not get inside. We use gas for cooking, heating the home, and for the water heater. So after reading this, I called Atmos and they said they would send someone right back out. The first phone call was placed shortly after 8 PM on the 16th. At this time they stated that they were sending someone. I called again at about 9:30 PM, and again shortly after midnight, and AGAIN at 2:40ish (twice). FINALLY, someone showed up at 4 AM the next day! They stated that we had "leaks" and needed to have them fixed before they could turn the gas back on. Completely understand this part... so we went to a hotel for three nights while we had our entire house re-piped. When the plumbing company finished the work, they contacted the city inspector. The city inspector was out within two hours (2PM), and upon completing his inspection, he contacted Atmos to let them know it was ok to turn on. We came home at about 7 PM and expected to be able to use the heater/ water heater/ stove, however, the gas was not turned back on. I called them at 8 PM and they said that they would send someone right over, and they would call me to allow me time to get to the house from the hotel. Nearly three hours later, I received a voice message stating that they were at the house waiting for 30 minutes. However, my Ring doorbell shows them pulling up, ringing the doorbell, then hanging a yellow card again. So today, I called at 8:14 AM, they said they were sending someone over shortly. At 11:05 AM when nobody had shown up, I called again. Same thing at 3:57 PM, 5:54 PM, and now 7:51 PM, and STILL NOBODY HAS SHOWN UP! We checked out of the hotel today because they assured us that someone would be here to turn the gas on, and now it is 29 degrees out and we are, literally, freezing. Atmos Energy does it again! AE has a monopoly on gas and continues to run with ridiculous turn-on service fees and then continue to not leave voice phone messages with a customer when on the technician is on premises for activation. I had a contractor in back of house working and the employee never heard a doorbell. Why would someone from Atmos not call when on property? This reaks of ethic stinch, along with inefficiencies which hurts customer as we have no recourse. I'll have an open rental property sitting without carpet until Friday.....I hope Atmos really does well this year in revenue. It's amazing that "no exceptions" are ever made either for a business which makes millions off a monopoly. Chelesy the customer service manager read off a script which basically protects company from liability and emergency setup. The quality and professionalism around efficient calls and appointments lack. The state needs to get involved and allow for responsble competition for this to get better. It's so over due! Exorbitant fees charged for NO usage of gas. We have a vacation home in Fredericksburg, TX that we put on the short term rental market. This summer, with the excessively high heat, we have had no bookings for June, July or August - which translates to no gas usage at our home. Despite this, Atmos Energy charges us $41.33 in customer fees and surcharges just to keep our account open. This amount is beyond excessive. In contacting Atmos to inquire and file a protest, we are told they do not adjust, waive or credit any of the fees that are charged. This company has over 3 million customers across 8 states and they can't credit one account a portion of three months bills for non-usage? This is ridiculous. This is another example of a greedy corporation that only cares about their bottom dollar. The City of Fredericksburg would do well to bring in some competition in the market space so that customers had the ability to choose their gas provider. As it stands, Atmos has a monopoly over the city and they appear to be able to impose whatever fees and charges they want at leisure with no oversight or real justification for doing so. Just as a comparison, our primary residence is in Spring, TX and our gas provider is CenterPoint Energy. For a family of 4 using gas all month long for daily showers as well as running the dishwasher, washing machine, and sinks our average monthly bill in the summer is just over $30! That's with usage! Yet with NO usage, we get charged over $40 by Atmos. Atmos is uncooperative and needs to be investigated by FERC. I'll be filing a complaint with them as well. read more

I'm a homeowner and have oil and gas pipelines on my property one of which is owned by Atmos Energy. I have 6 different pipeline companies that when necessary need to work on my property and rent the space from me separated from my horses so they don't get on the Hwy in front of us or cause any issues with the horses. They sent me a check which I held over 90 days (not on purpose) and when found I sent the original back to Mika Morgan the Ops manager. They are dragging me out a year and keep having excuses for not sending me a check for renting my property which they use a large area, destroy grass and I can't graze on it for 3 months and have to reseed. They have made excuses for not paying me and we had a contract they think they can break cause I'm a small homeowner raising horses I've had enough of their lying to me every month why they can't cut a check. Always blaming the Accounting Department. In my experience with them is I do t trust them and they always play games with me and basically won't pay me. What would you do? Starting with no notice (I was home) before turning off my gas to replace a meter cover, requiring an emergency crew to turn it back on as I called in I had no gas, cancelling my 35 year old account, requiring me to activate a new account, changing my account number which cancelled auto pay, changing the terms of auto pay to immediate pay vs due date pay... Thank you ATMOS Energy for upgrading the gas lines in my Temple neighborhood. Your people are working hard and taking good care of the community. When we had to cut off the gas, a nice, caring service man told us and helped us light our pilot lights. Sean also remembered me from 2 years ago when I had a gas leak. He made sure he ran the right line and meter so we could get a generator. I am a teacher and was so impressed with ATMOS' culture that I invited their Chief Financial Officer, Chris, to speak to my class. Chris confirmed what I thought and talked about how the public interest and care for their communities guide ATMOS' decision-making. I can tell this because when I call the service line I get a person from my community that cares about fixing my problem. read more

Worst customer service ever. they act like they are acting in your best interest when they shut you off for a minor leak, then when you have jumped through all of their hoops and an average cost of 7K to fix the leak. My recent experience with them has insured that by the end of this year I will have replaced all of my gas appliances with electric, to ensure that these people will never again be able to hold my family hostage with no heat or hot water in the middle of winter. Moving into a new home, I contacted Atmos and was told I needed an inspection from the city before I could start services. I received a text from them at 1:30 stating the tech was in the area and would arrive in 30-90 minutes. By 5 PM I contacted Atmos and was told they didn't know what time the tech was coming, and that an "emergency" situation must have come up. I'M SO DISAPPOINTED! I've normally had pleasant experiences with Atmos Energy, but today was the exception! The terms offered by AE for an extension are ridiculous! In this day and age of breaches, I don't want anyone having my personal banking data on file. Not to mention the fact that the bill randomly fluctuates. I questioned the accuracy of my bill today and the young man told me that I have a smart meter, and he just checked it (via the phone) and it was correct. Imagine, this guy was sitting somewhere in Texas telling me about my home in Mississippi. When I asked him for a copy of my consumption history, he told me I could get it on-line. If I had wanted it on-line, I wouldn't have asked for it to have been sent to me. My furnace hasn't worked right the past two to three months and it is not reflected in my bill. This company is fueled by greed. Their terms for real customer assistance need to be reviewed. I fully understand that they supply energy to half of the country, and they have monopolized the industry. I also spoke with a supervisor, and she wasn't helpful either. She had the same curt demeanor as the guy I spoke to. I do hope our conversations are recorded and used for training purposes. Normally, AE sends a survey as soon as you hang up. Guess what! I didn't get any surveys today! My issue was not resolved! I wouldn't recommend AE to anyone! I don't want to ever speak with that guy or his supervisor! They both need some additional training with customer service! I'm glad it's warming up outside! Dealing with AE makes you look for additional heating sources. read more

They are horrible. Customer service is nice until you say you need your meter check because the bill isn't right. They get mad and say pay your bill. Well, I had not even turned on my gas this year and I got a large bill. The customer service agent said it is the same as last year. I said but I purposely froze this year and didn't turn my gas on. She said it doesn't matter because it is the same as last year. I told her I want it checked and she gave me the hardest time. I never heard back from them. I contacted them and was told we checked it and it is fine so pay your bill. I had to watched videos so that I check it myself every month since this last one was $400. I have never paid that much. I keep my house no higher than 68. This is enough to make you want to cry. They have a monopoly and have us hostage if we want heat. So they can basically do what ever they want because there is nothing we can do. They only care that you pay your bill. I needed to break my bill up for the $400 payments and they sent me a threatening letter that if this isn't paid on the due date you will be turned off and forced to pay fees and may have a hard time getting it turned back on. That is a threat because I already agreed I don't need a threatening letter about how you will leave me without heat. Plus I have children in the house. Just disgusting. read more

He relight the water heater. 30 minutes later I get a flyer saying the service will be on 4-1. I called Miguel and said your information is incorrect. The work is done. He said he never gets up dates. Called Michelle to give her a heads up a lot of people are going to be without hot water and not know why! We had a credit card on file for auto renew payments and our card became expired so the payments did not go through. Obviously this was an issue on our end but Atmos never called us, never emailed, text, communicated at all that there was an issue with payment. We did not even receive a letter in snail mail... nothing. Then they came to our house and left a note they were there at 9:36 and if we did not respond (how would we since no one was home and they didn't call) the gas would be shut off at 9:40. They gave us four minutes to respond then shut off our gas. When we called to get service restored the woman that responded deliberately talked as slow as possible, repeated things several times unnecessarily to make the call go longer, asked us the same questions several times. It was like dealing with the sloth at the DMV in that cartoon. Now I have to miss a day of work so they can turn back on the gas, I didn't need to be there when it was turned off, I wasn't there when we bought the house and had service turned on the first time... this is just to make things more difficult for the customer. Their customer service skills are lacking but they know they have a strangle-hold in the area so they do not care what type of service they provide. Then when they came back to the house they said they would text when they were on the way to give us a window. the text said they will be there in 30-90 minutes. My wife left work which is less than 15 minutes away and waited for them to come. Well after the 90 minutes was up she called and they claimed they were there already. Which is a lie because we have cameras on our house and they were never there. Then they said they could not promise they would make it to our house. This is a deliberate effort by the company to fail to provide service. The fact they lied about showing up at the house is beyond anything I have had to deal with for a contractor of any kind. read more

I usually don't do bad reviews unless is required, because we all made mistakes, but what this company has done in the very first month we have had the service is outrageous! They sent a "specialist" to inspect that everything was ok and idk what the guy did but long story short it turns out the guy estimated the consumption of the service and we are being charged 220$ for the first month of use! They told my husband that that could not be reverted and that it was going to be corrected for the next month! That our consumption based on the last days is way lower than what we were being charged! And the Spanish customer service people, bless their heart, they probably don't know what day of the week is today!
