I've seen residents twice when I needed an appointment at short notice and they were great. I've never had a problem here, Dr. Carlson made me feel very comfortable when coming in the first time. I asked where he studied hormone therapy, and received a snide remark. "Nobody gets a degree in hormones, they get a degree in medicine". Not really the greatest of experiences. Perhaps he was busy, or had something going on as we all do. Perhaps,he gets a million calls like this. However, if someone is not going to take the time to answer questions and quell fears of a process of this magnitude... I'm newly retired and have just started on a Medicare Advantage Plan. Unfortunately, CRMA only takes Tufts Medicare Preferred advantage plan. That's the only one. That stinks. It makes me wonder if they really want to service Medicare patients. I had researched the Medicare Advantage options, and for me the Tufts plan didn't cut it. I am an established patient with several specialists in the Mass General Brigham network. All of them took the Mass General Brigham Medicare Advantage plan. It was only my PCP who did not. Several of my specialists did not take Tufts Medicare Preferred. I was faced with having to find a new PCP and keep all of my specialists, or to keep my PCP and a couple of my specialists. Changing doctors is a royal pain, and getting a first appointment seems to typically take a year. My medical situation is that would not work for me. I had selected my PCP at CRMA, because they are part of the Mass General Brigham network. If they were not, I wouldn't have gone there. One frustration with CRMA was with lab work. Patients at CRMA HAVE to use their office. I once tried to use a Mass General Brigham lab. They cannot see the lab orders from a CRMA doctor. I am guessing that CRMA is trying to keep revenues from lab testing. Just a guess.

I was very paronoid due to a former questionable sexual partner and the onset of excessive night sweats. Shelley took the time to handwrite a letter to personally put me at ease: negative on the HIV; night sweats were simply related to the start of full blown menopause. I certainly did not expect anything other than a phone call and will not forget this! I also appreciate the fact that she is big into women's health issues. As I lost my GYN a number of years ago, she now takes care of my pap smears. If Shelley seems abrupt or whatever, you need to be able to speak your own mind and let her know you dissagree, if you do. I have. After all we all know our own bodies more than anyone else and should be our own health advocates. We need to be verbal with our Dr's and I believe this Dr., for one, is OK with that.

The billing department is poor at best. I had a claim issue for three months. The initial invoice…read morewas because Charles river billed the 2ndary insurance as primary, causing a retraction in payment. When I called the billing department back in June, I provided the primary insurance information and I was told the claim is being sent back. Then in July I received another bill. I called the billing department and was told "the claim was resubmitted but there is a balance", I explained that the balance should be submitted to the secondary insurer. I was told that they will do this. Then in August I received another bill. I called the billing department and asked why am I still receiving a bill. I was told that the claim denied stating that there is no primary doctor listed for the patient and that I would have to call my insurer to fix the problem. So I called my insurance company and was advised by the insurance company representative that the claim was never sent back in June. The provider, Charles River Medical Group, did not do their due diligence when they didn't resubmit the claim. The insurance representative asked to call Charles River billing department to resolve the issue and put me on hold. The insurance representative came back and stated they had to tell the billing representative how to reprocess the claim. The billing person at Charles River should know how to process a claim and resubmit a claim. Because of their lack of reprocessing this claim they would rather send the patient a bill. Horrible! I also filed a grievance with my insurance company.
