After some discussion, one member of the staff went in search of a scrap plank or two, while his colleague provided us the name and number for a contractor who does hardwood repairs. The scrap search was successful, but the better news is that they would not take payment for the 4 or 5 feet of boards. Francy either wouldn't respond to me or would send someone to my home with little or no notice to me.
