After unsuccessfully trying to get an appointment with a primary care doctor in the Tampa General Medical Group within 30 days, my insurance referred me to Dr Hughes with the BayCare Medical Group who was able to give me an appointment within 3 days, which was just what I needed. The Baycare Medical Group has convenient online appointment scheduling, online pre-appointment paperwork, online lab results, and online medical charts so you don't have to spend a long time on the phone. After checkin it was only a 5 minute wait to see Dr. Hughes. Dr Hughes was friendly, able to answer all my questions confidently, very knowledgeable, even asked follow up questions to figure out my situation, and helped find the best solutions for me. Quest diagnostics is located next door so it was super convenient for me to go after my Doctor's appointment to get vital blood screening lab work. I loved the provider I saw. I did cancel ahead of time my follow up visit with provider since I could see the labs online and I knew the answer was that my labs were normal and there would be no treatment needed. Many months later I woke up with a swollen eye. I called clinic and asked if I could get squeezed in that day. And wonderfully yes and I was happy. I also work in the health field and have patients. I was discussing my patients and lost track pf time. I started heading to this practice. I knew I'd be maybe 20 min late so I called. The lady on the phone was very nice. But said I was too late for the appointment and I understood. I asked the lady on the phone would I be charged for missing an appointment. Her answer was a "no don't worry you will not be charged". She asked if I wanted to get rescheduled. I told her that I didn't know if I could fit it in the next day but said okay good ahead and book it. Even with me expressing that I didn't know I could make it, the lady on the phone never said that if I somehow can't make it that I will be charged. Maybe I am an idiot, but I thought when I asked her if I'd be charged and her answering no, that that meant the place had no fees for missing (some places don't). I couldn't make the rescheduled visit. And yet again I spent a whole day with my patients and was not able to make it. I admit I didn't call them but was very busy and the practice was closed by the time I left work (6:10 pm). I notice a $50 fee today for missing. I called the practice and expressed my confusion with what the lady on the phone said as no you won't be charged for missing statement. I was polite. I asked for manager to reach out to me. Instead of customer service and asking me the patient what all happened and listening, I get a long text of dry black and white: "...Our office has a late cancel/no show policy that was informed to you when you initiated care. Due to the late cancel we waived the first fee and then you proceeded to no show your appt without contacting the office. Unfortunately, we are not able to waive this fee since this is your second no show/late cancel and have been aware of our office policies..." I was disheartened that they didn't even ask me about the situation. No, I was not aware of their policy even though I signed it many months ago. That is why I asked the lady on the phone if I am charged for missing the appointment. I sent a text back trying to explain that and got another dry black and white response back that I signed the documents on the no show/missed in July. I messaged to cancel all my appointments at their clinic. I wanted time to think about if I would want to come back or not. It was simple. No extra words. Was never mad. Frustrated, yes, but never angry. Just said to cancel all my appointments at their clinic. I tried to get back on the patient portal to pay the missed appointment balance and it will not let me on. So I text the number back asking if my portal was closed. I was met with a text that said "Your chart has been closed as you requested as you were not in agreement with our attendance policy. Please establish care with another Provider. Your No show fee has been waived..." I tried messaging back saying I never asked for my chart to be closed and never said I won't be in compliance of a no show fee. I do not mind paying no show fees when I know about it. That I simply was frustrated at their practice for the miscommunication of the lady on the phone saying there was no missed fee and was hit with a fee and appreciated a phone call to express my disappointment in a calm way. No response since. I'm pretty appalled at their customer service skills. It's a pity. I was excited to have this place as my family doctor place. Maybe they were jaded by patients not wanting to pay no show fees that they disregarded me wanting to politely talk about it. It is a shame. ​​

For the last 3M I've been in contact with the FAA and they've requested my patient records for reexamination. I called a week ago friday and left a message for my patient records which is state and federal law, called back Monday and she said they were just going to call me and asked for my email address and she would email me immediately with access to my records, a week later i just left another voice message, which i'm certain having seen my phone number they just put me into voice mail. so now i'm forced to go to the FL Board of Medicine to report these liars, while this just delays further my ability to reinstate my FAA medical. He saw me for chronic pain & when focusing on nerve pain prescribed Cymbalta saying he takes 2 every morning himself for back pain. Red flags piled up in the few appointments we had with him between Sept-Dec 2020 & then the bill arrived & was coded for a mental health visit for just me, the one who was given an anxiety med for nerve pain. We called the office & his staff even felt like this was an error & assured us it would be taken care of & Dr. Swoager would call us back. Instead the front desk called us with a statement saying the DR believed I was depressed. We never once discussed this in the office ever & I had family there with me every time. Misdiagnosing someone is serious and stealing money is also a crime. I have PTSD but never discussed this with the DR because I was seeing him for pain. I vaguely mentioned some of the conditions I had previous diagnosis for but continued seeking help & an MRI for pain & a tumor I have, not anything else & that was clear. Dr Swoager took full advantage of me and my family, our health, & finances. Medical care isn't cheap which is why most have to pick & choose what they can afford to be seen for within that year  & Dr. Swoager took that right away from us. The 3 people in my family (self included) needed medical care and paid with time & money & still need to be seen to this day for the issues we saw Dr. Swoager for starting in September of last year and we are just now receiving more bills being charged at the higher mental health rate, not all, just some & no explanation for why other than a false diagnosis from a doctor who never discussed my mental state with me ever.

Trying to communicate effectively with the office is so difficult to do, whether online through messaging or through the phone. It can take weeks to get a response back. The office also can't keep enough medical staff employed. Though to be fair it all started after Covid however this facility has not recovered. Once your done seeing Dr Berland anything request after that is impossible. Dr Berland explained to me he would fill out my short term disability yet what he filled out was a joke. 2 months later I am fining out his office is sending in the same paperwork that my STD company is asking for further information Let's talk about the facility. It looks like a mental ward that has sliding wooden door that open and close like a jail cell. The turnover rate is so high that at times I had LPNs that have no idea how to correctly take blood pressure manually. The office relies on a machine that test your blood pressure but it often wrong or fails. Advent Health centralized their appointment department so if you need to call the hold times can be crazy high I brought up to Berland a couple years ago that his reviews have tanked and he is very well aware however I do t think there's much he can do since it's Advent Health that makes the decisions. I've never waited long, and the staff is always very friendly. Dr Zuber is super friendly and makes you feel very comfortable to ask any questions or talk about any concerns. I feel like so many doctor's these days are so quick to hand out medication for every cough or sneeze, contributing to the overuse of antibiotics these days. She's not that kind of doctor- she wants to be sure of the diagnosis before treating with unneeded medication. Last year, I had a test done that I thought my insurance would pay for, but it didn't. When I got the $400 bill, I panicked. But, Dr Zuber's office was persistent in getting the bill covered, and eventually it was all resolved. Getting a sick appointment has never been a problem ...but be sure to book your annual physicals 1-2 months in advance, as they fill up easily.
