Big score in my opinion, the staff were able to work and exchange brief conversation while doing their job. That is SO important to me. Treating customers like people, not just transactions. Seriously, more people like that should exist. I call the refills in one or more days in advance yet its still never ready when i arrive. The staff are inconsiderate and i cant recall a time when they were more helpful than minimum possible to complete a transaction. I only used them because my local pharmacies dont carray a medicine i use. Ill have to look into mail order instead. I asked about that at the counter, and literally all they knew about it was the phone number. Thats pretty bizarre, but par for the course here. Avoid.

Every time we called to place an order for pick up they were always accommodating and polite. Besides lobster they have a great bakery section with some homemade goodies. They have a pretty good produce section all with a good dairy and freezer selection. They have everything else in between. Located in the town of Patten, Ellis's market is a go to for us.

The older staff and managers seem to be helpful if you can find one, but there is a consistent irritating issue with --in my experience -- many of the younger employees. The store is quite large, probably one of the largest supermarkets in the City. This means it is sometimes difficult to find where items are, especially if it is something other than the basics. Almost without fail, when you ask a question about where something is located, you will get a precise answer. Trouble is that it is almost always wrong. (One Saturday, I had to ask a clerk three times and after three trips still couldn't find my item. Finally I just said "Do you know that (the item) is in that aisle or are you just guessing?" Answer: "Well, I thought it might be." This was the fourth visit in a row with a similar scenario where I was sent running around because someone guessed, or made something up, or answered with a location even though, as it turned out, they didn't even know what the item was I asked for was! (Anchovies, if you're wondering.) How hard is it to call someone else if you don't know an answer? Management--Train your staff members to either answer questions correctly or find someone else who can. If they don't know an answer, admit it. It makes a customer feel devalued to get sent on a wild goose chase -- or two or three -- because it is easier to guess or make something up rather than admit you don't know and find the proper person to deal with it. *Sigh* I really wouldn't take time to write this for a single incident, but it happens all the time at this store and it is so easily preventable with a few minutes training. I like the President's Choice products though, so an extra star for them--if I can find them.

That being said: we stopped here *several* times over the course of the weekend, and they always had exactly what we were looking for (fresh fruit! kombucha! pain meds! gatorade in fun flavors!). And, actually, I was really impressed with the quantity of not just vegetarian but vegan brands they carry! The parking lot is a little chaotic, and the store is pretty run down and grimey. I just brought my own bag, carried my stuff around in it, then cashed myself out to keep to limited touching of surfaces.

When we were checking out we forgot ice cream, it wasn't a problem! They had plenty of cashiers to help get you out the door. The potatoes well they had a lot of selection of Maine potatoes but they were sprouting or turning green... After checking out a few vegetables I gave up on them and didn't buy any fruits or vegetables here. I did pick up some drinks and candy. I would recommend this place if you just need to pick up some pre-packaged goods such as drinks chips etc. Parking is really close to the door so it's easy to get in and out really quickly.
