My first experience with these fine folks was an accident I had and broke my front two teeth ! Actually a repair I had from my dentist was knocked out ! They saw me at 8am the very next morning Dr Parham and her staff were so very nice ! They were able to fix my teeth temporarily until the permanent solution ! They looked better than ever ! On another visit to Kitty Hawk I broke some teeth (surfing is not my thing lol) she and her staff came up with a solution . She fashioned a bridge until my mouth healed then fixed it with a permanent bridge ! They are by far the friendliest, nicest folks you would ever want to meet! If I was a little closer they would be my dentist but I make several trips a year and Dr Parham and her staff take care of me ! I have a fear of going to the dentist, but Atlantic Dentistry always puts my mind at ease. Ever since we relocated to the beach, I'm so happy we found the best dental office around. Dr. Ashley Parham and my hygienist, Deana, were both wonderful. I recently went in for a cleaning and also had a crown done, and the entire experience was smooth and stress-free. Everyone -- from the receptionists and insurance specialist to the assistants, hygienists, and doctors -- was friendly, professional, and genuinely caring. Dr Thompson did a great job, and was willing to adjust my care plan to accommodate my travel schedule. I've been going here for five years and I really enjoyed Dr. Marshall. The staff is always so nice, however, I saw a new dentist this time and I felt like I was being used as a money making opportunity while I was there for my dental cleaning . I don't have any pain in my teeth yet the dentist suggested I get two crowns. One of the crowns was redoing the work done by another dentist in their office! This office is always running on time, has extremely friendly qualified staff and I love my hygienist, Deena ( sp?). I have a partially paralyzed palate, vocal cords and epiglottis. She is extremely diligent in making sure I don't aspirate. She is the first hygienist that I am not feeling somewhat panicked when gett my teeth cleaned. She's quick but thorough. read more

Horrible front desk. No courtesy. The dentist and technicians always try to shame you and upsell you. They are obviously running a business and not concerned with caring for their patients. Very efficient, professional and courtesy. Although, very expensive. I don't think it's right to have to pay balance in full before proceeding to next procedure that is most needed to prevent further complications and more expense. I think a monthly payment plan would be great especially after just paying almost $10,000 out of pocket for extensive surgery. I feel like this should have not been overlooked and discovered only a week after the first surgery especially to the point it had gotten and especially in just one week and now it's gotten to the point of no return. Pay attention to all claims filed to your insurance! When I decided to log into my insurance account and see what was going on, I discovered not one, but multiple fraudulent charges for work they did not perform! They also did not file claims for routine care that is most definitely covered by my insurance, choosing instead to bill me in full. I have requested a sit down with the main billing specialist multiple times over the last several months, and every time I get unprofessional rude little girls answering the phone who want to pretend to know about insurance claims arguing with me. I have requested repeatedly to speak with a manager...and that too has never happened. Unfortunately, now I am being forced to bring out the big guns and go after their practice. read more

Prices vary from patient to patient for same services, no follow-through on important issues, "cash" payment for 10% discount is CASH only, no check. I personally had a horrible experience there (a lousy job on a crown), and also now my friend just did. I will never go back. My friend scheduled a cleaning and, after doing xrays ($282) and getting an "oral exam" ($108), they refused to clean his teeth and said he needed the deep cleaning ($1,100.00+) which they "did not have time to do today". X-rays were no different from 2 years ago when they did a regular cleaning then. THIS IS A SCAM and he could not afford to do this and didn't even get his teeth cleaned the regular way. He asked them, can't you clean my teeth the regular way today and talk about this in 6 months - and they said NO! So, now he has xrays and no dentist to clean his teeth after driving 1 1/2 hours there and spending $30.00 on gas and $390 for NOTHING! He didn't need xrays for nothing! All dentists refuse if you don't have the xrays, so who is going to clean his teeth now??? He does NOT need a deep cleaning - that is total BS. He has literally only had one cavity his whole life and is over 50! He even has his wisdom teeth!!!!! Let me reiterate - the appointment was clearly for a cleaning, clearly stated - not an oral exam (they always burn you for the xrays but not an "oral exam" and then be told to spend $1,100+ on a FUTURE cleaning. Yes, he was a returning customer. They are also listed as a "supposedly free dental Medicaid clinic" - wonder how much Medicaid is spending on DEEP CLEANINGS nowadays~ read more

Fantastic service and care. I somehow chipped a tooth at the gum line one evening while on vacation and quickly went from vacation happy to sad and miserable. The sharp edge rubbing against my cheek made it hard to think about anything else, so I spent the evening researching the best dentists on and near OBX. I ended up contacting Atlantic, who called me promptly the next morning and fit me in before lunch. I went in thinking I would most likely just get a temporary fix to hold me over until I could get back home to my dentist, who I trust. Instead, I decided to get a permanent repair from Dr. Gunther Heyder, who they refer to as Dr. G., presumably because thee are two Dr. Heyders at the practice. The decision to go for the permanent repair was my decision. I was not pushed at all, but Dr. G. conveyed such competence that I didn't see why not...and I have been very happy with the result. Even better, everyone with whom I dealt at this practice was fantastic. Seriously. From the person on the front desk to the techs to the doctor to the insurance processor. Each one was friendly and professional. I really expected to be treated as an inconvenience as an out-of-town tourist who would not be a regular patient. Instead, I had the exact opposite experience. I was on vacation in the area and had an infected tooth from a lost filling. I really thought that I was going down for the count. They were able to work me into the schedule the morning that I called and made sure that I was taken care of (even though I was not a local). The receptionist was awesome (friendly, welcoming), the dental assistant was awesome (super efficient yet interested in what I had to say) and Dr. Alex was just as good (he took the time to explain to me what was going on). He was honest about what he could and could not do (since I was only in the area for a week). A prescription for antibiotics and a regimen of Advil/Tylenol was all I needed for now. Two days later and I feel good enough to continue to enjoy my vacation. I wish that I lived in the area because I would choose this office for my dentist. read more

Let me begin by saying I am not an employee here and I have always enjoyed going to the dentist. I've had everything from fillings to root canals and never been scared even once. That aside this was my second visit to Atlantic and I think these guys are some of the finest of dental teams I've used in a long time. I normally would not have reviewed a dentist but due to what I consider a very high cost, I wanted to review my visit too, Atlantic Dentistry in Kitty Hawk. I scheduled an appointment for my 6-month cleaning. I used this dentist many years ago but due to insurance, I had to change dentist. On the initial consultation I was told I needed deep cleaning, needed a tooth capped and had a cavity. I was given an estimate of cost for all the work, and I miss read the estimate that the deep cleaning total cost would be $1357. I read the estimate at $544 which I thought was high for cleaning but wanted to get this done. I went to the office to complain, and they did reduce the bill to slightly over $1100. My dental insurance did not pay anything. Atlantic did a good job on cleaning my teeth but do not think it was $1100 worth. read more

The hygienist was the best I've ever had-thorough, knowledgeable and personable...too bad I don't recall her name! She was fantastic. I will first start out by saying I am not a fan of the dentist at all. I had the unlucky event of an old filling getting pulled out on a piece of candy of course while on vacation. I called on a Monday afternoon and they were able to see me the next day. I have horrible anxiety but dental anxiety is even worse. Kim worked with me and understood my feelings. She was very encouraging. Dr Pharam repaied my tooth in what felt like record time and was mindful of my aversion to he noise. Shannon even helped me fill out the insurance paperwork to submit for reimbursement. I have never been to a doctors office of any kind that treated me with so much dignity and respect. read more

I arrived 15 minutes early and was taken to the back 5 minutes early. That is the only good thing I can say about this so called dentist facility. The dental assistant took an xray within 10 minutes and told me Dr. Heyder would be right in. I waited around 45 minutes for someone to come back in and it was another dentist intern, she apologized for the long wait, she then hurriedly looked at my problem and said she needed a second opinion, so I waited another ten minutes for Dr. Heyder to come in. They stated that nothing could be done today because of time constraints. (Really, after over an hour of waiting!) Instead of focusing on my problem at hand, the two dentists started selling me on costly follow-on options and suggested I talk to their in house financial person about different procedures. I left the office very dissatisfied feeling like I had been to a used car facility. Someone should have told me upfront that they were running behind instead of letting me sit there. read more
