The wait to see the ophthalmologist is ridiculous. I waited almost 3 hours to be told the doctor was not coming due to car trouble. I returned the next week to wait 4 hours, even though eye tests had already been done. Don't come here if you want to be seen in under 3 hours. read more

If i could leave "0" stars I would. I scheduled an appointment 3 months in advance, completed all of my paperwork/intake forms online before before arriving. I arrived 10 minutes early to my appointment and settled up and paid for my visit. I SPECIFICALLY asked the billing receptionist 3 TIMES if this was the entirety of the bill for my visit (as the year prior I had been there for an eye exam and was billed an extra $5.00 in the mail after my visit which neither the mail office or billing office could explain to me this extra charge being billed at a later date) the billing receptionist ASSURED me 3 times this was the entirety of the bill that I would not be receiving any further charges. I then proceeded to wait 1.5 HOURS in the waiting room PAST MY APPOINTMENT TIME to be called back for my appointment. Which was extremely unprofessional. When I was called back my appointment lasted less than 10 minutes. I was briefly seen by the intake person who I clarified why I was there, for a consult on an issue in my right eye. She did not perform any kind of eye exam. I asked if the Optometrist, Dr. Blakemore, would be wearing a masking during my consult with him and explained that I was inquiring because I have been caring for my 92 year-old grandfather who is recovering from Covid and taking extra precautions. She advised me that upon request the Optometrist would wear a mask. I then was taken to another room where I again waited. When Dr. Blakemore arrived he came to the doorway of the room and made a scene about me normal request that my Optometrist wearing a mask and made me feel extremely uncomfortable as he stormed off in a huff to get a mask. When he returned, he had an attitude and was rude. He looked at my eyes for less than 60 seconds and then said it was too difficult to examine them with his mask on. He then proceeded to tell me that the issue I had scheduled a consult for was something commonly seen in "Mexicans" repeatedly. I am a 39 year-old Caucasian American woman. He did not offer any medical advice, any treatment advice and when I inquired trying to find out what I should do going forward to resolve a painful & troubling condition he again repeated his bit about it being a "common Mexican ailment" and told me "He didn't know, he was only filling in there". Literally no actual consult or medical advice after waiting for 1.5 HOURS to be seen and paying $100.00, and to top it off was being told in a racist condescending manner that I had a "Common Mexican Aliment"... unbelievable. Then while I was speaking to him, asking him for help and advice, he got up and walked out without saying anything. I was in shock. The the lady who was in the room with me walked me out and WHISPERED to me in the hall that I should really have it looked at, at least once a year. Seriously?!!! She then told me there was no further payment required as I had already paid the full visit amount. This was the worst & most unprofessional care I have EVER received and I left feeling extremely upset, still concerned with no information how to resolve my painful eye condition except that "it was a common Mexican ailment" and feeling literally robbed of my time & money, and disrespected to a degree that I have never experienced from any health care provider in my life. The cherry on top is now, A MONTH LATER, I just received a additional bill in the mail for a additional charge of $137.00 for this visit!!!!! Even though I SPECIFICALLY clarified 4x (3x with the billing receptionist & 1x with the lady who walked me out) that I was paid in full and would not be receiving any further bills!!!!! read more

In the beginning they had someone handling their insurance claims that wasn't exactly efficient. She admitted to BCBS she had left our claim unprocessed because one of her staff was on vacation. BCBS and myself found that kind of unprofessional but I let it slide because I adored my doctor there. When she died I stayed on and enjoyed seeing the new doctor there as well. Recently I found out all of the doctors had left and the practice here was closing. I'm not sure what I'll do now but have made an appointment with their other office in Elizabeth City. I guess I'll "see" what happens there. read more

Overall: Wife lost her eyeglasses in airport and we looked for a place that can make them quickly. Easily will round up due to customer service!! Hint: My wife kept a photo of her prescription for just in case (this was one of those just in case) moments that made things move quickly with staff. Service: 5 stars- Great customer service!!! They were all very friendly, understanding, and talked amongst one another to see what they could do for us. They made a call to their supplier to see what lens size they could get overnighted so they could make the glasses. Even though they weren't able to get a certain lens size my wife needed, they made a great effort.! Another customer was there to buy a pair that the Atlantic Ocean wave claimed. They can make the glasses the day of if you have prescription info and not too extreme len size. Environment: 4 stars- Little shop that would do them well to expand due to the amount of traffic they had while we were there. Limited selection but good enough to find what you need plus their ability to call things in. read more

Lost my prescription eye drops this morning. Noticed they were missing at noon when it was time for more drops. Started calling about 12:30 to get prescription refilled. After multiple calls to Albemarle and my pharmacy ( to see if they had received prescription) NOTHING!! At 4:30 I was finally told I had been talking to a receptionist in Washington, not my office in Kitty Hawk. I finally get someone at Kitty Hawk office and no Dr was in today and tech that could reissue script had left for the day. Sorry , you have to wait until Monday!! The most disappointing and unprofessional experience I've ever had at a "doctor's" office. To begin, my appointment was at 2:15, as I am a new patient I arrived early to fill out paperwork There were so many people waiting in waiting room, there was no seats, so I sat in the section they sell eye glasses for to fill in papers. At 2:50 I was finally called in by an assistant who was very pleasant and professional, she kept repeating that it was "surgery day" and that is why they were so backed up and had such a long wait. She performed vision tests on me and put yellow drops in my eyes. She asked if I was dialating for today's exam, I wasn't prepared to be dilated because when I made my appointment over phone it wasn't told and I had another appointment at 4pm to get to. I aaked if dialating was neccessary for exam, she said the doctor can examine you better if you do but we can go ahead without dialating as I had another appointment to get to, the interaction was 15 minutes. I then get walked back to the waiting room and was told I'll be called again when an exam room opens up. At 3:31 I finally get called back. I sit and wait until 3:45, then realizing I am not going to get to my 4pm appointment on time, I call then to say I'm running late due to a delay at my doctor's office but am still going to get there. At 4:05 BLAKEMORE walks in the room with what I can only assume was an intern.... he doesn't greet me, simply cones out with "how do you expect me to examine you if your eyes aren't dialated? with a stern and condescending tone...I'm immediately taken back, who is this man? Why is he being so rude at our first interaction? To which I answer " I didnt realize I needed to be dialated for you to examine my eyes", again he rudely remarks "well what kind of eye exam are you supposed to have without dialating? ....I responded with noone had told me I needed to be dilated.....he responded "well it's an eye exam, of course you're going to be dilated" in such an arrogant and condescending manner.....he then shoves to blank eye exam at me, I ask "what is this", he states "it's your eye exam, you need to reschedule".....I state "I'm confused " .....he then smirks and says "what do you want me to tell you" .....I then say "I want you to apologize for wasting my time, I want you to apologize for not preparing your patient for what to expect at their exam he stares back with a blank uncaring look then disappeared from the room . I immediately left the office and went to the check out desk and asked for a refund of ny co pay as I would NEVER return to the office again. BLAKEMORE you are a rude, arrogant, smug and condescending man and should really reevaluate how you treat people. You should respect people's time and when you are running almost two hours behind schedule you should be apologetic and caring not smug and dismissive. read more

A year ago I purchased frames and lenses from the Precision Optical Shop in Nags Head and then moved to Durham. After a few tries at a local optical shop, I drove back to Nags Head to replace my lenses. I particularly appreciate the expertise and friendliness provided by Misty. I remembered her professionalism from a year ago and decided my eyes are worth the trip! read more

I chanced upon Outer Banks Eye Care when I woke with an eye emergency -- a red and severely painful eye. The staff assured me that they would not only see me without an appointment, but that they'd honor my insurance. Both the assistant and the ophthalmologist (Dr. Blakemore) were highly professional and reassuring. Even as a tourist in the area, I felt as if I were being treated like a long-time patient. We loved this place! Classic situation; our daughter lost her glasses in the waves and we desperately called to make an appointment. They graciously gave us a time in the morning and when we showed up, we barely waited-chatting happily with the very nice staff there. When we saw the adjacent optometrist, the optician made the eyeglasses in under 30mins!!! This is especially awesome as her lens' strength is always difficult to get on the spot. They were sooo efficient, genuinely nice and caring; they actually changed the experience (of losing the glasses in the middle of nowhere) to a great one. Thank you guys, you rock. read more

I was here on vacation with my family and one of the nose pads on my mom's glasses was broken causing a lot of irritation and redness on her nose. We came here and they fixed it after some difficulty with the broken screw. And best of all, they didn't even ask my mom for any payment! They were so sweet and kind, I couldn't believe it.
